Abstract

This study is concerned with the inquiry of  the Influence of Jigsaw Technique and Learning Interest towards Reading Comprehension Achievement of Business Letters on the eleventh Graders of SMK Negeri 3 Palembang. The problem of the study is to investigate the influence of Jigsaw technique and traditional teaching method in relation to learning interest towards reading comprehension achievement of business letters. Jigsaw is a collaborative technique to accommodate the students’ reading comprehension. This quantitative study and the data collection are deliberated by adopting pretest, posttest and questionnaire. The data analysis employs paired sample t-test, independent sample t-test and two way analysis of variance. Findings showed  that  there was a significant influence of the application of both Jigsaw technique and traditional teaching method towards reading comprehension achievement of business letters  but that  there were not any significant interaction effects of the application of Jigsaw  technique and learning interest towards reading comprehension achievement of business letters. Conclusion suggests that there were significant effects of Jigsaw technique and traditional teaching method on students’ reading comprehension achievement.Keywords: Jigsaw technique, learning interest, reading comprehension and business letters

Abstract

AbstractThis research is concerned with the influence of cooperative learning technique and reading interest towards the eight grade students’ reading comprehension on recount text of SMPN 48 Palembang. In this study 60 students of eighth grade students of SMPN 48 in the academic year 2017/2018 were chosen as samples by means of two stage random sampling. This study applied factorial research design. The data were collected by using questionnaires and t-test. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test, Independent Sample t-test and Two Ways Anova. The results showed that, first, there was a significant difference in reading comprehension the students who have high reading interest and those who have low reading interest taught using cooperative learning technique of SMPN 48 Palembang. Second, there was not any significant difference in reading comprehension the students who have high reading interest and those who have low reading interest taught by traditional teaching method of SMPN 48 Palembang. Third, there was a significant difference in reading comprehension the students who have high reading interest and those who have low reading interest taught using cooperative learning technique and traditional teaching method of SMPN 48 Palembang. Lastly, there were not any significant interaction effects of cooperative learning technique and reading interest towards the students’ reading comprehension of SMPN 48 Palembang. Conclusion suggests that there were significant influences of cooperative learning technique and reading interest the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension on recount text of SMPN 48 Palembang.Keywords: Cooperative Learning Technique, Traditional Teaching Method, Reading Interest, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

Abstract  There are many ways that can be done by a teacher or lecturer in motivating and helping his students to understand and communicate in English in the classroom. One of them is by using teaching aids, pictures. "Pictures" are not only able to make the students interested in what is being learned, helping students understand the lessons easily and involve them actively in the learning process but also can provide a visual clue for them to respond. However, before the "Pictures" are used in the teaching of English in the classroom the teacher must prepare well. Teachers should pay attention to whether the "Pictures" are easy to set up and attractive in order to be used effectively and meaningfully.  Key words: teaching aids, pictures, communication

Abstract

AbstractThis research was investigate the influence of STAD Strategy and Learning Styles toward reading comprehension achievement to the Tenth grade students of The State Islamic Senior High School Number 1 of Palembang. In carrying out this research, the writer selected two groups randomly: The experimental group and the control groups with six subjects each group and writer used factorial design. In analyzing the data, writer used statistic analysis and two-way ANOVA in SPSS15. Based on the result of calculating using independent t-test, it was found as follows: First, There was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between students who have visual learning styles and those who have auditory learning style taught using by STAD of State Islamic Senior High School Number 1 of Palembang. Second, There was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between studentswho have visual learning styles and those who have auditory learning style taught using by conventional class of State Islamic Senior High School Number 1 of Palembang. Third, There was a significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between students who have visual learning styles and those who have auditory learning style taught using by STAD and conventional class of State IslamicSenior High School Number 1 of Palembang. Fourth, there were significant interaction effects of STAD and learning styles toward reading comprehension achievement of State Islamic Senior High School Number 1 of Palembang.Keywords : STAD, Learning Styles, Reading Comprehension Achievement

Abstract

This study was to investigate the Influence of Movie Maker in the M-Learning Model and learning motivationtoward the speaking ability of eleventh-gradestudents at State Senior High School 1 Payung. The population of this study is all of the eleventh-grade students of Senior High School 1 Payung, in the academic year of 2019/2020. The sample was 60 students taken by two-stage random sampling. In carrying out the research, the researcher used factorial design. To know the classification of students who had high and low motivation. The researcher was conducted 20 items. Then, in analyzing the data used independent sample t-test and two-way ANOVA. The result of this study indicated that; Firstly,there was asignificant difference in speaking ability between eleventh-grade students with high and those with low motivation who were taught through collaborative learning methods by using Movie Maker.Secondly, there was asignificant difference in speaking ability between eleventh-grade students with high motivation and those with low motivation who were taught by using conventional teaching techniques.Thirdly, there was asignificant difference in speaking ability between eleventh-grade students of high motivation who were taught through collaborative learning methods by using Movie Maker and those who were taught by using conventional teaching techniques.Lastly, there was not any significant interaction effect of the collaborative learning method by using Movie Maker and learning motivation towards students’ speaking ability.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Everyone acquires sounds as the first component in learning English and his native. Linguistically those systems have some similarities and differences. This study dealt with Contrastive Analysis between English and Indonesian Consonants and Its Reflection toward Students’ Errors in  Reading Aloud at Eight Level  Students of SMP Negeri 12 Palembang. The writer used descriptive method and the data were analyzed qualitatively. The result of study showed that some differences between English and Indonesian consonants caused some difficulties for students in producing English consonants such as; the substitutions for English /θ, ð, ζ/, the transformation of English palatal into Indonesian palatal, lack of aspiration with English voiceless stops [p,t,k] and neglecting the sound /g/ or /k/ after uttering the sound /ŋ/. This prediction reflects some errors made by students in pronouncing English /θ,ð,f,v, ŋ/, English /tʅ and dζ/, English /p,t,k/, neglecting the consonant clusters in final position, and neutralizing English voiced consonant in final position.  Key Words:  Contrastive analysis, Errors Analysis and English and Indonesian Consonants

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed at finding out whether or not: (1) there is a significant influence between Self-efficacy and students` reading achievement; (2) there is a significant influence between Reading Interest and students` reading achievement; (3) there is a significant influence between Self-efficacy and Reading Interest to students` reading achievement. The population of this study consisted of 857 students of The Eighth grade students of State school in Baturaja Timur Subdistrict namely SMP Negeri 9 OKU, SMP Negeri 13 OKU, SMP Negeri 23 OKU, SMP Negeri 32 OKU and SMP Negeri 34 OKU in academic year 2013/2014. The try-out was done in SMP Negeri 34 OKU with 32 respondents. In this research, the writer used sample size so the writer get size of sample population based on table of sample size, the writer got 343 students at 95% confidence level from 857 students. The researcher took the sample by using simple random sampling. The result showed that (1) there was a significant influence between students’ self-efficacy and reading achievement of the eighth grade students of State Schools in Baturaja Timur Subdistrict, (2) there was a significant influence between students’ reading interest and reading achievement of the eighth grade students of State Schools in Baturaja Timur Subdistrict, (3) there were a significant influence among students’ self-efficacy and reading interest toward reading achievement of the eighth grade students of State Schools in Baturaja Timur Subdistrict. Key Word: Self-efficacy, Reading Interest and Reading Achievement

Abstract

Abstract Qualifications and certifications are needed to be considered for professional teachers. Hence new initiatives (policy) are regularly taken to further strengthen the professionalism of teachers. These initiatives are chiefly directed to the profession – the status, respect, and much less to the inside of teaching process – the attitudes and actions of individual teachers in their daily teaching practice. The pedagogical and didactic theories should be put together for professional development in promoting learning in the classroom. This paper aims to systematically find out the qualifications required essentialy by teachers to successfully perform their pedagogical and didactic duties competently and professionally; what makes up their personal professionalism. The paper also will try to verify the conclusions reached in related literature regarding a holistic approach to make up the profile of a “good teacher” and hopefuly it can contribute to a systematic and analytical description of professional knowledge required for the successful performance of a profesional teacher.Keywords: qualifications, professional, teachers

Abstract

AbstractThe study deals with the influences of Writing Process Method, Conventional Teaching Technique, and Motivation towards students’ writing ability to the tenth grade students of SMA Nahdatul Ulama Palembang. This is a quantitative study. The data were collected by using questionnaire, pre-test and post-test. They were analyzed by using t-test and Two Way Anova. Findings show that there were significant influence of Writing Process Method, Conventional Teaching Technique and Writing Motivation to the tenth grade students’ writing ability. There were interaction effect from the Writing Process Method and Writing Motivation to the tenth grade students. There was a significant influence in writing ability between the tenth grade students who had high learning motivation and those who had low learning motivation taught by using Writing Process Method. In, conclusion Writing Process Method and Writing Motivation show significant roles to improve the tenth grade students’ writingability in descriptive text.Keywords : Writing Process Method, Conventional Teaching Technique, Motivation, Writing ability.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was conducted to solve the problems faced by the writer as the teacher of English at Junior High School Number 1 of Belitang OKU Timur. She result of the preliminary study at the eighth grade of Accounting Department showed that the students’ motivation and reading comprehension in English still low and did not meet the criteria of success. Furthermore, they had involvement to participate actively in motivation and reading comprehension. This study was conducted in experimental research to 64 students At Junior High School Number 1 of Belitang OKU Timur in the second semester of the academic year of 2012- 2013. It was took place for four months in twelve meetings and started from February to June 2013. There were some instruments to achieve the purpose ofstudy, namely: reading comprehension test that was included 40 questions in multiple choice form, and the questionnaire of motivation that was included 30 statements.Key Words: Group investigation, Motivation, and Reading Comprehension.
