Abstract

A typical example in courses on electricity and magnetism is that of a conductor carrying a steady current. It is said that the electric field inside the conductor is parallel to the current and that there is no transverse (radial) component of the field. While this is reasonable assumption justified for pedagogical purposes, it is not rigorously true. In this paper, the transverse electrical field is calculated as being different from zero, but negligible from an experimental point of view. For various conductors, the transverse electrical field is a polynomial function from steady current.Keywords : Transverse electrical field, steady current, conductor

Abstract

This paper is the result of tried out of innovation in Mechanics course with problem solving teaching-learning model based on concept by using computer, conducted in DUE Like project at Physics Department of FPMIPA UPI in academic year 2002/2003.In principle, the objective of this innovation is to improve the student role (student centred) in attending Mechanics course, which in turn will improve the quality of the student learning result.Concretely, the main point of the implementation of this learning model in Mechanics course includes:1. Group discussion in finding and solving problem, based on problem and concept structure that presented in handout.2. Presentation the result of group discussion to get comments from all students.3. Strengthening and completing the discussion result by lecturer using computer media.4. Tutorial to guide students in finishing some problems taken from textbook.Derived from the average score and the percent of the success student in each examination, it can be concluded that the usage of problem solving teaching- learning model based on concept by using computer media, significantly can improve the student learning result, compared to the result of the same course when it is just using OHP. While from the answer of the questioner which just returned by 50% students, generally stated that the teaching-learning model and the media used in Mechanics lecture are good enough, even though there is an impression that the students found difficulty in learning alone which based on textbook and handout. It happened, may be, because of the previous learning style which is teacher-centred.

Abstract

The extraction of Cu(II) and Co(II) with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-stearoylpyrazol-5-one (HPMSP) as the chelating ligand using chloroform solvent have been studied. The extraction mechanism of Cu(II) and Co(II) and the composition of extracted species has been determined. Cu(II) and Co(II) was extracted as Cu(PMSP)2 and Co(PMSP)2. The effect of concentration HPMSP and pH has also been investigated.

Abstract

An Experiment on the effect of different nitrogen source in Murashige and Skoog media (MS, 1962) on senesionin production of compact globular structure of Crotalaria anagyroides has been performed. CGS culture was obtained from callus culture on liquid MS media with 5.10-5 M NAA and 10-6 M kinetin. The CGS was transfered into media with different nitrogen source: MS A (amonium+nitrat), MS B (nitrat) and MS C (amonium). Qualitatif data showed that senesionin could be detected in the CGS exstract by appearence of spot (Rf=0,78). The quantitative data showed that MS C was the best media to produce 4623 g/DW senesionin on 30th day.Key Word : Crotalaria angyroides, Nitrogen Source, Senesionin, Senesionin Production.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to improve chemistry teacher training program quality, use Analytical Chemistry Teaching Model (MPKA). The improvement should be on student higher order thinking skills. The model is consisting of 23 concepts, which include concepts that name process, concepts that have no perceptible instances, concepts which require knowledge of principles, concepts involving symbolic representation, formula and equation. Those concepts arrange in nine hierarchies on concept map. The model of teaching uses: (a) concept and science process skill approach; (b) problem solving and lecture method, and also laboratory activities; (c) transparency and power point media; (d) essay test. Critical thinking skills developed by the model are elementary clarification, basic support, inference and strategy and tactics. Creative thinking skills developed by the model are: (1) encouraging elegant solution of collision conflict, unsolved mysteries; (2) practicing the creative problem solving process in disciplined systematic manner in dealing with the problem and information at hand; (3) examining fantasies to find solution of real problems; (4) heightening anticipation only enough structure to give clues and direction. The model has been implemented to 82 students in three teacher’s training institutions (LPTK) in Java and Bali. The model improves students’ comprehension in Chemistry concepts. It also develops three kinds of logics: group inclusion, proportional and combinatorial. Therefore it is suggested to develop similar models for other courses in perspectives chemistry teachers training program.Key words: Model of teaching, analytical chemistry, critical and creative thinking skills, quality improvement.

Abstract

The effect of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) on separation layer formation of mungbean Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek var. walet was carried out. The objective was to know the effect of BAP on separation layer formation. The experiment was done by spraying the first inflorescent with 8 x 10-4 M BAP three days before and three days after the fifth flower was anthesis. Samples of flower pedicellus were taken three days before dan three days after fifth flower was bloom. Then they were fixed and processed for anatomical observation by preparing histological slides accoding to O’Brien and Horner (1981). The result show that in control plant, two days before the fifth flower started to anthesis, cells of the abscission zone started to be activated to form separation layer. It was initiated by cell division within the adaxial edge and progressing inward across the cortex to the vascular strands. Abscission layer was completed at the time or a day after the fifth flower was anthesis. No histological changes observed in with 8 x 10-4 M BAP treated plant. Abstract

We can determine the distribution of the random variable by considering its moment generating function (MGF). Unfortunately there are some distribution which have no MGF. This kind of the problem cann’t occur on an exponential family, because the comunic form of the family always can be determined its MGF.Kata kunci : Bentuk kanonik, keluarga eksponensial, fungsi pembangkitan momen.
