Abstract

The objective of this research was to increase the protein content of cassava peel caused by microbial growth and its fermentation process on it, and to determine the population and diversity of the microbes in “ragi tape” as inoculum. The method used in this process was solid substrate fermentation of cassava peel with ragi tape as inoculum. Prior to fermentation process, cassava peel as a substrate was treated with 1. fresh, 2. steaming, 3. additional of urea and rice brand and 4. additional of NPK and vitamine B1. The results showed that protein content in fermented fresh cassava peel increased from 3.41 % to 5.53 % after 8 days incubation with 3.09 g/kg inoculum, in fermented steamed cassava peel was 8.03 % after 5 days fermentation in fermented cassava peel with additional of urea and rice brand was 8.88 % after 4 days fermentation while 4.69 % in fermented cassava peel with additional of NPK and B1 vitamine after 5 days fermentation.

Abstract

Antidiabetic activity of the ethanol extract of Andrographis paniculata Nees herbs had been tested using glucose tolerance test in rat and alloxan induced diabetic mice. The extract reduced rat blood glucose at the dose of 2.0 g/kg bw but there was no effect observed at dose of 0.50 g/kg bw and 1.0 g/kg bw. It is interesting that the extract at doses 2.1 g/kg bw and 2.8 g/kg bw, and the effect was much lower at 3.5 g/kg bw also showed the capacity to reduce blood glucose level of alloxane induced diabetic mice.

Abstract

Wood is one of several materials that is very useful for man, even wood with less quality tends to be used more. Anthydride-acetic has been used to improve the wood quality by improving the stability of wood dimension. This research studied about the influence of anhydride-acetic on wood molecular structure by studying the change of wood performance, functional group with FTIR method, bound water with DSC method, dimensional stability by determining ASE, and degree of crystallinity with XRD method, on the condition of 110 oC, 15% as long as 24 hours for Pinus merkusii. It is concluded that dimensional stability increase of Pinus merkusii through acetylation, is indicated by the changing of – OH group of wood components with the bigger acetyl group causing amorf region increase. This condition enabled the swelling of wood volume. The substitution of –OH group to a bigger acetyl group caused the steric hindrance which decrease the molecular move of wood component. Therefore, both the swell and the shrink of wood cell walls volume became more difficult, that the swelling of Pinus merkusii volume was smaller or dimensional stability of Pinus merkusii increased.

Abstract

Fabrication of Josephson junction devices could be easily carried out using direct laser writing techniques. Thin film superconductor can be etched by melting it using a focused laser beam. While the laser beam is fixed, the etching pattern can be generated by moving the thin film on an X-Y table, which could be controlled by a computer. The melting radius is determined by the laser power density and the scanning-speed. The optimized scanning speed for fixed power density is predicted by solving the heat equation using finite element method. We consider a structure consisting of MgO substrate, a bufferlayer SrTiO3 and the superconducting YBCO film. The simulation is carried out for laser power of 1 to 5 watt at the wavelength of 514 nm.

Abstract

Since the troposphere is a non homogeneous medium with vertical variation of meteorological factors, it would be expected vertical gradients of the refractive index and, as a result, a refration of radio waves. This study higlights results of the radiosonde observations in Serpong, West Java. The results show that the refractive index decreases with altitude and in the lower troposphere, this index has a diurnal fluctuation due to the variation of meteorological factors.

Abstract

The catalyst activity of Fe2O3, Co3O4, NiO, CuO, and LaMO3 (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) has been determined using Differential Thermal analysis apparatus. The increased temperature rate has been used at 25oC per min. in the atmosphere of 40% CO, 40% N2 and 20% O2. Mixture gases. The analysis result shows that the order of catalytic activity is Co3O4 > CuO > Fe2O3 > NiO > LaCoO3 > LaFeO3 > LaNiO3. Beside of catalytic activity, this method can be used to determine the starting temperature of carbon monoxide oxidation reaction, which refer to the catalytic reactivity. The order of catalytic reactivity is Co3O4 > CuO > NiO > Fe2O3 > LaCoO3 > LaNiO3 > LaFeO3.

Abstract

The influence of mechanical and thermal energy to the physical mixture of (1:9), (3:7), (1:1), (7:3) and (9:1) of two drugs namely aprobarbital and isopropylantipyrin as representative model of sedative and analgetic-antipyretic groups has been carried out. In fact, both of those substances could part of physically interact to form a molecular compound. Such compound has two eutectic points at 96oC and 123oC, each. Whilst the melting point of the formed molecular compound is 129oC (Thermal analysis method). The molecular compound formation between aprobarbital and isopropylantipyrin was proved by crystallography methods i.e. diffractogram produced by x-ray diffraction, contact methode, thermal analysis (DSC) and microphoto of scanning electron microscope.

Abstract

In this study we had been used mathematical model that consist of hydrodynamics and pollutant transport two dimensional depth avaraged models. The driven forces of current that considered in the hydrodynamics model are tidal, monsoon wind, and river discharges. The factors that considered in the waste transport model are advection by current, turbulence diffusion, and load waste sources of cadmium (Cd). The model assumtions are constantly load waste from rivers and persistent waste (chemical reactions and degradation by bioactivities are assumed zero). Simulation results show that in Tanjung Priok harbour the distributions of cadmium follow the current pattern and the consentrations has been over ambient which allowed. The average accuracy of model in this study is about 50 to 60%.

Abstract

Geoelectrical method utilizes resistivity variation by measuring potential difference due to electrical current which is injected into the ground. The method can be imployed to characterize geological structure of the subsurface, to locate water reservoir, to monitor groundwater pollution and to explore geothermal reservoir. In this study, a laboratory physical model was used along with the geoelectric method as a means to monitor the pollutant transport in the sand of the model. The geoelectric method employed Wenner-Schlumberger configuration with electrode spacing of 5 cm.The result showed that the pollutant transport can be detected from the electrical resistivity variation. The addition conductive pollutant into the sand of the model caused the resistivity of the sand decreased, because the applied pollutant was conductive. After monitoring using five times measurement with pollutant interval application of 600 ml, the restivity measurement showed that the pollutant spreaded progressively at every measurement.

Abstract

El Ninõ and La Nina phenomena have caused disasters in many countries. Many million dollar losses has suffered by millions of people in several regions. However the exact cause of the phenomena is still unclear. The Sun plays the central role in determining the earth climate, therefore it is reasonable to think that changes in the Sun behaviour may influence the climate on earth including the El Ninõ and La Nina phenomena. Based on this consideration we tried to find any relationship between the indicator of solar activity, i.e. sunspots, and the indicator of El Ninõ and La Nina phenomena, i.e. Southern Oscilation Index (SOI).
