Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the effect of SETS-based teaching as an effort to improve creativity in solving the environmental pollution problem  and the effectiveness of teaching based on SETS compare to Problem-Based Learning (PBL). The design of this study was Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. The population was students of SMA N 1 Prambanan, Klaten with the student of class X as a sample. To determine the effect of each study, the data was analyzed using the paired t-test. While to determine the effectiveness of teaching in each class, the data was analyzed using the independent t-test. The result of the study shows that SETS-based teaching and PBL can enhance the creativity of solving problems of environmental pollution and the SETS-based teaching indicated more effective to improve the creativity of the student if compared with the PBL. Abstract

The aims of this study are (1) to develop 4N concept from Ki Hajar Dewantara into 4N model of learning for science, (2) to investigate the quality of developed products, (3) to investigate the effect of 4N learning model for scinece learning to Tri Nga competencies, and (4) to investigate the implementation of the model.The study used 9 steps of research and development (RD) model of Borg Gall without taking the dissemination process.The results of the study are as follows. (1) The 4N concept was developed to become 4N model for science learning. (2) The Products are appropriate to use for teaching and learning process. (3) The 4N learning model can achieve a functional science learning: (a) the model can increase Tri Nga competencies. (b) Science learning using the 4N model achieves the KKM target, and (c) the 4N model gets good response from the students. (4) The 4N model is in well done category. Key words: learning model, 4N (neng-ning-nung-nang) concept, functional learning.

Abstract

The objectives of this research were (1) to know the characteristics, (2) to review the advisability, and (3) to find out whether the science comic improve students learning motivation and character. This research is classified to Research and Development (R D) by referring to the ten main procedures developed by Borg and Gall. However this research only applied nine of the ten procedures stated above, they were: introduction, planning, developing, early try out, revision, limited try out, and final product revision. The subject of this research was grade VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Yogyakarta. There were 43 respondents consisting of 5 students for individual try out, 10 students for small group try out, and 28 students for field try out. The data collecting instruments were validation sheet for media and material experts, observation sheet, interview guidelines, and students’character and motivation questionnaire sheet. The result of this research are as follows: (1) the characteristic of science comic were character-based and contained integrated science's material, (2) the advisability of character education-based science comic is considered as very good, and (3) therefore, the comics are applicate to develop motivation and character for JHS students.

Abstract

Evaluation of suitability evaluation of physics education microteachig class to KKNI in Sunan Kalijaga Islamic University was done by stake model with quantitave descriptive analysis. Based on data analysis indicate that (1) the suitability of planning class to the achievement of KKNI Level 6 phisics education at 45.45% ( enough categorized); (2) the suitability of the implementation of class held on the achievement KKNI Level 6 physics education viewed through the achievement of the student's ability to KKNI Level 6 at 75.34% (very well categorized) and the role of the lecturer to the achievement of the students ability to KKNI Level 6 amounting to 55.01% (enough categorized); and (3) the conformity assessment of the achievement of the lecturers do KKNI Level 6 physical education by 72.73% (well categorized).

Abstract

This study aims for developing students’ worksheet of entrepreneurship-oriented small-scale chemical industry, and investigating the quality of entrepreneurship-oriented small-scale chemical industry that is appropriate to be implemented in learning. This study is classified to research and development which refers to Borg Gall development model. This research consists of four steps: which are introduction, planning, developing, and product evaluation. The product evaluation was conducted by peers, material and media experts, and chemistry teachers. The data collection instruments used validation sheet of the products. The results show that the developed products are in the form of students’ worksheet of entrepreneurship-oriented small-scale chemical industry, and the result of the assessment by chemistry teachers shows the average assessment is a good category so that this  worksheet is feasible to be used in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate: (1) the feasibility of computer-assisted learning media based problem based learning (PBL) on Environmental Pollution materials for high school students of class X, and (2) the effectiveness of instructional media for improving of critical thinking skill (CTS) learners class X SMA Negeri 5 Magelang. This research was adapted from the ADDIE model of development that includes analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate. Products validated by subject matter experts, media experts, educators of Biology, and peer reviewer. Subject of this study is tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Magelang. Collecting data was using questionnaires, observation sheets, and test critical thinking skills. The media according to the validator and the students is classified to the category of good. Instructional media was improved to learners' critical thinking skills effectively, which demonstrated by the significant value of 0:00. This results showed that media computer-assisted learning based PBL is effective for improving of the critical thinking skills of learners.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate senior high school chemistry teachers ability to develop semester examination materials based on higher-order thinking skills. This kind of research was a survey. A number of respondents were 15 chemistry teachers with 559 questions of semester final examination in year 2013. The used methods was documentation. This research used a document check list as an instrument to collect data. The analyzed data were C1 (remember), C2 (understand), C3 (apply) that included lower order thinking skills (LOTS), C4 (analyze), C5 (evaluate) and C6 (create) which classified to higher order thingking skills (HOTS). The results of the study was senior high school chemistry teachers ability to develop a semester examination material based on higher order thinking skills is 13,9%, which consists of C4 13.2%; C5 0.7% and C6 0.0%.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a learning device as Subject-Specific Pedagogy (SSP) of physics, and to improve science process skills and learning motivation of the students. This research used the 4D model. The subjects of this research were the XI grade students of Muhammadiyah High School 2 Yogyakarta. The data collecting instruments were expert validation sheets, science process skill observation sheets, questionnaire of students’ response to the student books and worksheets, question-naire of students’ response to teaching process, students’ motivation learning sheets, and science process skill paper test. The research data were collected through observation, questionnaire, and paper test, and analyzed quantitatively. The results show as follows. (1) The development of physics SSP is carried out in accordance with the procedures of 4D model product development. (2) The results of expert’s validation show the physics SSP is in the very good criteria. (3) The readability of the student books and worksheets is in the good criteria. (4) The increasing of the score of science process skills and students’ learning motivation in the experimental class is higher than that in the control class. This shows that the physics SSP is fit for use in physics teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) develop higher order thinking multiple choice test (HOT-MCT) to measure the critical thinking skills of students of class VII IPA SMP/MTs, (2) determine the quality of the test theoretically, and (3) determine the quality of the test empirically. The procedure consists of seven-step, which adapted from 10 models of research and development steps Borg Gall which includes: (1) the preliminary study, (2) planning , (3) development, (4) a small test group, (5) revision, (6) field trials, and (7) revision. The quality of the test theoretically validated by experts and science teachers. Empirically test the quality of trials conducted small groups and field trials. Analysis of the data using the parameters of the classical theory. This research resulted in about HOT-MCT with the following explanation: (1) a multiple choice question with four answer options consisting of 23 items was, (2) the test is valid theoretically valid, and (3)the test is valid emperically with reliability index α = 0.723.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dan mengetahui karakteristik, kualitas dan efektifitas dari media pembelajaran berbasis android. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan. Penilaian produk dilakukan oleh ahli media, ahli materi, pendidik kimia, peer reviewers dan uji coba peserta didik. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui angket penilaian media, angket motivasi dan tes, kemudian dianalisis dengan Manova. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android memiliki karakteristik, yaitu visualisasi menarik, praktis dan fleksibel serta evaluasi soal yang variatif, (2) media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dinilai layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran, ditinjau dari aspek materi, aspek media dan hasil uji coba peserta didik, serta (3) terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan antara motivasi belajar dan prestasi kognitif peserta didik yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android layak dan efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran kimia. Kata Kunci: pengembangan, media pembelajaran kimia berbasis android, motivasi, prestasi kognitif.   DEVELOPING ANDROID-BASED CHEMISTRY INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA TO IMPROVE THE LEARNING MOTIVATION AND COGNITIVE ACHIEVEMENT OF SMA STUDENTS Abstract The aims of this study are: to develop android-based chemistry instructional media and to reveal the characteristic, the quality, and the effectiveness of android-based chemistry instructional media. This research was research and development. The product assessment was conducted by a media expert, a material expert, chemistry teachers peer reviewers and students. The data collecting technique was done by using media evaluation questionnaires, motivation questionnaire and test, then it was analysed by Manova. The results of the study show that: (1) the android-based chemistry instructional media has characteristic such as interesting visualisation, practical and flexible and vary of evaluation test, (2) the developed android-based chemistry instructional media is appropriate for teaching, in terms of material evaluation aspect, media evaluation aspect, and based on the results of students’ tryout, and (3) there is a significant differences in the improvement of learning motivation and cognitive achievement of students between learning using android-based chemistry instructional media and conventional learning. The result showed that the android-based chemistry instructional media was appropritly and effectively used for teaching.
