Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the students' understanding level and the occurrence of student's misconceptions about the periodic system of elements subject. Descriptive research with a qualitative approach is a research method used in this study, that is by explaining the data obtained from the result regarding the misconceptions that occur. The technique used in data collection was a test equipped with a choice of the confidence level of answer (TKJ), questionnaires, and interviews. The results showed that the level of understanding experienced by students was still very low, that is 20.2% of students identified as students who misconception about the subject and 8.5% understood the concept and 71.3% of students who did not understand the concept. The factors that caused the misconceptions were the lack of students' initial concepts and the basic abilities of students.

Abstract

Preservatives are one of the food additives used to preserve perishable foods. Based on Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan RI No. 033 Tahun 2012  about food additives, sodium tetraborate or borax is classified in additives, which are prohibited being used in food. However in reality, there are still used.  The purpose of this study is to identify and measure levels of borax compounds in ground red chilies that are sold in the traditional markets of Jambi city. Qualitative analysis of borax in ground red chilies using a color test method using Tumeric paper. While the quantitative analysis of borax in ground red chilies using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry at the wavelength of 550 nm. Borax identification results showed that 25 samples the ground red chilies tested contained borax with average concentration 1,998 mg/gram of borax compound. Analysis of the results of the test of borax content with SPSS using the Chi-square test indicated that there was no relationship between the selection of ground red chilies with the use of borax as a food preservative.

Abstract

Doclang is a typical food of Bogor. One of the compositions is “pesor” wrapped in patat leaves. Apart from being a food wrapper, patat leaves are used as traditional medicine. Research on the chemical content of patat leaves is still limited and needs to be further developed. In this study, phytochemical testing and chemical content of the extracts of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol from patat leaves were carried out. Phytochemical tests include alkaloid tests; steroid and terpenoid testing; flavonoid test; saponin test; phenolic hydroquinone; tannin and polyphenol test. Based on phytochemical test results, the extract of patat leaves was known to contain alkaloids, steroids, triterpenoids, flavonoids, saponins, phenolic hydroquinones, and tannins with different distributions at each level of solvent polarity. The instruments used to identify the chemical content of patat leaf extract were GCMS and LCMS QTOF. Through GCMS analysis on n-hexane extract, 114 compounds were identified with a similarity level of ≥ 80% to the library. Among these compounds, confirmed to be terpenoid and steroid compounds. In the LCMS analysis of ethyl acetate extract obtained 25 compounds and 31 compounds for methanol extract. It is suspected that these compounds come from the alkaloid, steroid, flavonoid, saponin, phenolic hydroquinone, or tannin class.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kelayakan modul kimia analitik berdasarkan validasi ahli dan mengetahui respon mahasiswa terhadap modul yang dikembangkan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan model pengembangan Borg & Gall. Tahapan yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini hanya 7 tahapan dari 10 tahapan pengembangan. Kelayakan modul diukur dari lembar validasi yang dibagikan kepada 3 dosen ahli yaitu ahli materi, ahli pembelajaran, dan ahli media. Lembar validasi mencakup aspek isi, aspek bahasa, aspek penyajian, dan aspek kegrafikan. Analisis lembar validasi menggunakan Formula Aiken didapatkan hasil sebesar 0,799 dengan kriteria tinggi sehingga modul dinyatakan valid dan layak sebagai modul pembelajaran. Hasil respon mahasiswa terhadap modul yang dikembangkan dilakukan melalui tahap uji coba skala kecil dan skala menengah. Hasil uji coba skala kecil menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata aspek bahasa dan penyajian  persentase yang didapat masing-masing sebesar 85,00% dan 84,44% dengan kriteria baik sedangkan aspek bahasa dan kegrafikan masing-masing persentasenya yaitu 86,11% dan 89,44% dengan kriteria sangat baik. Hasil uji coba skala menengah didapatkan respon mahasiswa dengan kriteria sangat baik  pada seluruh aspek.Persentasenya yaitu aspek isi 87,83%, bahasa 87,00%, penyajian 87,30%, dan kegrafikan 90,17%. Mahasiswa menunjukkan respon yang sangat baik terhadap modul kimia yang dikembangkan.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan pengujian terhadap penghambatan ekstrak n-heksan kulit buah naga merah (Hylocereus polyrhizus) terhadap aktivitas enzim α-glukosidase. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan ekstrak kulit buah merah sebagai inhibitor pada aktivitas enzimatis yang terjadi pada pembentukan glukosa secara in vitro. Langkah yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini meliputi ekstraksi kulit buah naga menggunakan pelarut etanol dan dilanjutkan fraksinasi menggunakan n-heksan. Selanjutnya ekstrak n-heksan diuji menggunakan mekanisme penghambatan aktivitas enzim α-glukosidase. Larutan akarbose digunakan sebagai kontrol positif pada pengujian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit buah naga fraksi n-heksan memiliki IC50 sebesar 194,11 ppm, sedangkan akarbose sebesar 5,6 ppm. Semakin kecil nilai IC50 menandakan bahwa daya hambatnya semakin baik.

Abstract

This research aims to know the improvement of students' interpretation and inference skills, which are drilled through a guided inquiry learning model on chemical equilibrium material at SMAN 1 Driyorejo. This research used one group pretest and posttest design with a sample of 35 students in class XI SMAN 1 Driyorejo Kabupaten Gresik. The research procedure consisted of 3 stages, namely the preparation stage in the form of pre-research data collection, the stage of carrying out data collection, and the final stage in the form of data analysis. The research instrument consisted of an observation sheet on the implementation of learning, an observation sheet of students' activity, and the question sheet of interpretation and inference skills test. Data collection methods consist of observing the implementation of learning, students' activities, and interpretation and inference skills tests. It can be concluded in this study that (1) the implementation of learning at the first meeting, the second meeting and the third meeting in the range of 85% - 92% with good criteria, (2) student activities during learning get results at the first meeting until the third meeting that is above 90% so that student activities support learning to practice students 'interpretation and inference skills (3) Students' interpretation and inference skills in the teaching and learning process have increased from pretest and posttest with N-gain values in the medium and high criteria.

Abstract

Raja nangka banana peel contains pectin (10-21%), lignin (6-12%), and galacturonic acid. Pectin is a D-galacturonic acid polymer which connected with the β-1,4-glycosidic bond. Pectin was benefitted a gel form material and thickener making jam and low-calorie food. Pectin was generated with an isolation process. The purpose of this research was isolated and characterized pectin from raja nangka banana peel waste, and then pectin was obtained characterized for know pectin quality. Pectin isolation was done with the reflux extraction method. Pectin extraction uses chloric acid 1 N solvents. Pectin isolation was done at pH 1,5 temperature 90°C for 80 minutes. The purpose of testing for the function group was known as groups in pectin isolation. The functional group in pectin was got and then characterized with FTIR to show group vibration OH, CH3, C=O, C-H-, and R-O-R, with a wavelength respectively 3.448,366; 2.930,022; 1649,310; 1385,247 and 1146,453. Other than, pectin physical nature was done such as water content (0,061%), ash content (1,994%), equivalent weight (748,29%), methoxyl content (6,90%), galacturonic acid (250,88%) and esterification degree (0,0156%). Pectin characterization was got correct with pectin quality standard based on IPPA (International Pectin Producers Association).

Abstract

Keterampilan generik sains merupakan keterampilan dasar berfikir yang dibutuhkan dalam mempelajari sains. Keterampilan generik sains harus dikuasai oleh siswa untuk dapat berfikir analitik dan berfikir tingkat tinggi. Keterampilan generik sains siswa saat ini tergolong rendah sehingga dibutuhkan model pmebelajran yang tepat untuk mengatasinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan generik sains siswa pada konsep koloid menggunakan model discovery learning. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pre-eksperimen dengan desain penelitian one group pretest posttest. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI MIA. Intrumen penelitian berupa 12 soal ketrampilan generik sains yang valid dan reliabe. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menggunakan uji N-gain dan uji statistik dengan mengguakan paired-sample t-test dengan taraf signifikansi 0.05. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan keterampilan generik sains siswa pada materi koloid setelah diterapkannya model discovery learning. Hal ini dibuktikan dari analisis keterampilan generik sains dengan uji N-gain yang diperoleh bahwa 4 indikator tergolong sedang. Penggunaan model pembelajaran yang berpusat pada siswa secara tepat dapat melatih keterapilan generik sains siswa.
