Abstract

ABSTRACTIsolation and Identification of Avian Influenza Outbreak in October 2004 - March 2005in Indonesia. Recent outbreak of avian influenza A (HSNI) in poultry throughout Asiaincluding Indonesia caused major economic problems. Birds infection with this virus wasidentified in Indonesia in January 2004. Since March 2004, the avian influenza cases hasdecreased, but then in October 2004 was reported that outbreak has occurred in some districtin Indonesia. This study is the first to isolation and identification the avian influenza outbreakin Indonesia in October 2004 until March 2005. Our finding revealed that outbreak of poultrydisease in this period was caused by an avian influenza H5 subtype. Keywords: Identification, virus avian influenza subtype H5

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe critical period of red chili (Capsicum annuum L. var. long chili) under water stresstreatment. The research of the effect of water stress to the morphological characters of redchili was conducted to understand the critical period of vegetative stage. The experiment wasarranged based on Randomized Complete Block Design, consist of 14 water treatments with 3replications. Stressed plants were watered 500 ml each week at stress period and no stressedplants were watered 1500 ml each week. On the first weeks all samples were watered in fieldcapacity. The treatments i.e. Control plants were watered during 1-14 weeks; Plants weretreated in stress period respectively at ages 2 weeks; 2-3 weeks; 2-4 weeks; 2-5 weeks; 2-6weeks; 2-7 weeks and continued watering; Plants were watered at field capacity during 2-7weeks, 2-6 weeks; 2-5 weeks; 2-4 weeks; 2-3 weeks and 2 weeks, and continued stressperiod treatment; Plants were treated in stress period during 2-1 4 weeks. The result showedthat (i). Water stress treatments were significantly increase roots length; reduce length andweigl~t of stem; number, area and weight of leave. (ii). Red chili plants at vegetative stagewere more resistant to water stress compared with reproductive stage according to stem andleave parameters. Keywords: Critical period, water stress, Capsicum annuum L. var. long chili

Abstract

ABSTRACTPotency of Hypertolerance and Metal Absorption of Some Plant Species Under GoldMine Waste. Degraded mined land is characterized by extreme of alkalinity or acidity, highconcentration of soluble salt and high concentration of heavy metals. Contamination of minedsoil and water affects not only on agriculture system but also on food chains andepidemiological problems. As soil metal can not be biodegraded, remediation of soil heavymetal risk has been a difficult and expensive goal. Remediation of hazardous soil is requiredto reverse the risk to humans and the environment. Recently there are several differentstrategies available for the clean up and restoration of contaminat6d soils i.e conventionalwhich is mainly engineering-base and phytoremediation which is a biological-base method.Phytoremediation is defined as: clean up of pollutants mainly mediated by photosyntheticplants.. In this research four species of plants i.e Mimosa pigra, Crotalaria juncea, Crotalariasp. and lpomoea sp. were studied their potencies as hypertolerant plants on the waste of PTANEKA TAMBANG and public mines of Pongkor and Cigaru. The results showed that theplants were able to grow and showing high tolerance to the contaminated media. The mosttolerant species was lpomoea followed by Crotalaria and Mimosa. The results raised someprospectsfor phytoremediation technology for rehabilitating contaminated mined lands. Keywords: Phytoremediation, hypertolerance

ABSTRACTAnti Staphylococcus aureus of the Fermented Leaves of Several Medicinal Plants. Thisresearch tried to enhance the antimicrobial activity especially against Staphylococcus aureusby fermenting the leaves with Acetobacter-Saccharomyces. The result showed that thesuspension of the leaves of Psidium guajava, Hibiscus rosasinensis, Daucus carota, Morindacitrifolia, Pyrus malus, Apium graviolens and Piper betle could inhi bit the growth of S.aureus,wh i le Persea gratissima, Amaranthus caudatus and Nothopanax scutellaria did not. Keywords : Staphylococcus aureus, medicinal plants, antimicrobial

ABSTRACTFeeds and habitat utilization of Slow Loris (Nycicebus coucang) and Tarsier (Tarsiusbnncartus) in Pasir Panjang Forest, Central Kalimantan. This research was conducted inthe production forest of Saka and Padang Babuluh in Pangkalan Bun. Study sites werelocated at 9-42 m above sea level. Data being collected were the type of feed, nest sites andhabitat utilization. During the observation, 44 plants species from 17 families were identifiedbeing consumed and nest site by the slow lories. Twenty one species from 17 families wereidentified being habitat by the tarsier. Nest were built on growing trees and litters were usedas bedding. Keywords : Nycticebus coucang, Tarsius bancanus, feeds, habitat, Pasir Panjang Forest

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Influence of Compos and Several Biofertilizers on the Growth and the Harvesting ofTemulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza). Curcuma xanthorriza is one of the potentialmedicinal plants. Usually this plant is planted only as additional plant among the mainhorticultural plants. This plant is used as medicine plant, and usually grown not in fertile soils. So, this research tried to use the additional fertilizer such as compost and the potentialmicrobes. The aim of the research was to know the influence of the compost and the potentialisolates on the growth of the Curcuma xanthorrhiza. The research had been done at the greenhouse with Randomized Completely Design, by using polybag with 20 cm diameter. Therewas three replications. The results analyzed with ANOVA method, and Duncan Test at 0,05.The used soil was podsolik yellowish red that collected from Darmaga, Bogor. The resultshowed that the use of compost and biofertilizer increased the harvesting of the tubers from15,76% to 52,79%. The using of either BPP isolates or the mycorrhyza, increased the driedweigh of tubers of Curcuma xanthorrhiza. Keywords : Compost, potential microbes, Curcunla xanthorrhiza

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Biodiversity of Fish In Squaq Balimbing and Ketambe Gunung Leuser NationalPark, Sumatera. Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) is one of the biggest national park inIndonesia which is the habitat of various flora-fauna. GLNP is a conservation area inSumatera island that lies in the two province, North Sumatera Province and Nanggroe AcehDarussalam Province. Little has reported about fishes inhabiting inland waters of Acehprovince and Sumatera Utara province, because The Fisheries Service of both province andThe University of Syah Kuala and The University of Sumatera Utara are more interested inconducting research on marine fish.Ichthyofauna research was conducted at the two Research Stations of Gunung LeuserNational Park, i.e Suaq Balimbing and Ketambe Research Station. Research activity at Suaq- Balimbing RS which is located in South Aceh Regency was conducted in 1997, whileresearch activity in Ketambe RS which is located in South East Aceh Regency was conductedin 1998. The research activity successfully collected 64 fish species which is belong to 36familia. There were two endemik species, one of them was protected species, six species wereundescribe ones and has described as new species, besides of those there are several specieswhich are assummed as undescribe species and still being examined. Keywords : Fish, biodiversity, Gunung Leuser National Park, endemic, protected, newspecies
