Abstract

This research aims to develop an instrument for assessing understanding distance and displacement concepts. Distance and Displacement Inventory (DDI) is an instrument constructed in multi-representations, including picture, table, graphic, mathematical, and verbal representations. This instrument is in multiple-choice format with ten questions to assess students' understanding of distance traveled and displacement. DDI development refers to R&D design by Borg&Gall and test development flowchart by Beichner. DDI was applied to 357 students in Indonesia who had taken introductory physics courses. Student answers were analyzed to determine the DDI's psychometric properties and structural analysis. The analysis results show that the DDI is adequate for assessing students' understanding of travel distance and displacement concepts. Meanwhile, the structural analysis of students' knowledge results shows that students have different perceptions of each question item according to their representation. Furthermore, students who understand the concept of distance traveled and displacement in one representation may need help understanding it correctly in another representation. This research implies the necessity of designing learning designs based on multi-representations and teaching students about the changes between these representations.

Abstract

One of the issues facing the planet is energy. Energy's significant role influences numerous local economic activities in society. To prepare for growing fuel prices, cheap, accessible alternative fuel is required. The strategy employed for this community service is socialization and training, and it is done offline (face-to-face) while still paying attention to the health program. This PkM task is broken down into multiple steps. Planning comes first, followed by gathering equipment and supplies, making briquette samples, and finally, implementing the strategy. The activity found that approximately 15 housewives participated in this PkM activity. Providing information about the energy sources needed in Indonesia and their use is part of this PkM's work program. The community service projects that have been completed are anticipated to have a beneficial impact on society and the environment, mainly on the locals of Gili Sampang Kebon Jeruk. The training participants were quite proactive during the activity, which can be proven from several questions to make alternative energy fuels good and maximum that the community can utilize. The PkM team and participants created a mutual agreement that synergizes with each other to develop alternative energy sources in the form of fuels that benefit the community.

Abstract

Abstract

Understanding physics concepts remains a focal point of education, continually researched and sought for appropriate solutions, especially in teaching strategies. The teaching strategies employed vary greatly in influencing students' understanding of concepts. The aim of this research is to identify effective solutions in enhancing students' understanding of physics concepts, based on data obtained from various relevant journals from 2010 to 2022. This study was conducted using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, utilizing databases such as ERIC, Journal of Education Research, British Education Journal, and other journals indexed by SINTA to identify, review, evaluate, and interpret available research. The results indicate that an effective teaching strategy to enhance students' understanding of concepts is Problem-Based Learning (PBL).
