Abstract

Along with Instagram's growing popularity as the primary medium for sharing photos and videos, the world of photography is also expanding at a rapid pace. The Instagram caption is always dropped every time people upload on social media. Photo captions often act as a result of critical thinking and a way to communicate ideas. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach to collect and describe information about using English caption on Instagram photos from the perspectives of Camera Indonesia photography community members: frequency, the purpose for dropping captions in English, its effect on their photo works, and how they view English captions on others people’ photo captions. Using 10 members as the respondents, the study found that writing caption in English acts mostly as self-expression and has not yet been done on a daily basis as the respondents do not habituate reading English materials.

Abstract

School’s learning facility is one of the crucial components in supporting optimal education to achieve the educational goals, including early childhood education (PAUD). However, Tunas Bangsa 02 PAUD School is a private school that raises its finances and does not take any school fees (free tuition). The improvements to infrastructure and teaching resources are limited and carried out independently. It is necessary to have proper and directed planning so that the development of the learning facility follows the most critical needs. This study describes the design of participatory assistance to map the learning facilities. The participants in this program were the owner of the foundation, financial donors, representatives of parents, and all teachers, accompanied by a team of experts. Of the eight participatory design processes that have been implemented in this initial study, the researchers found that the participatory approach can be applied optimally and able to provide convenience for the school to map, plan and arrange their learning facilities, and a program design of Consultation Stage that consists of 5 stages can be implemented in the following years.

Abstract

This research seeks to answer to the challenge of online learning lecturers to plan their lessons more systematically by adopting ASSURE model. The change from face-to-face conventional learning to online requires more consideration and preparation, especially in learning planning. The ASSURE model is one of the instructions and learning plans that can be adopted in planning, identifying, determining goals, choosing media and material methods, and evaluating the course. The data collection technique was carried out by processing and analyzing documents from the literature, interview results, and questionnaires answered by respondents via links distributed to lecturers of the Architecture Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, National Institute of Technology Malang. The results show that the six components of the ASSURE model of the learning planning uploaded in SPADA LMS had not been implemented optimally. Therefore, the researcher recommends for the improvement of the Semester Lesson Plan (RPS) based on the ASSURE Model to promote continuous improvements.

Abstract

One way to keep the air humidity is by increasing the heat transfer with the porous media model. Increasing heat transfer depends on the value of the heat flux on the porous media. The heat flux value can be determined by inserting the porous media into the test section and then flow the vapor. The amount of heat absorbed is influenced by the large diameter of the porous on the media used. Therefore, this study aimed to optimize coconut shell charcoal by activating the charcoal. The purpose of activating coconut shell charcoal is to enlarge the pores so that it absorbs heat better than charcoal that has not been activated. The research method used is an experimental method and compares the results of research with previous studies. The porous media was vaporized for 60 minutes with a vapor temperature of 30 °C, while the vapor speed was varied, namely 1 m/s, 2m/s and 3 m/s. From the research results, that by using coconut shell activated charcoal, the heat flux value was higher than using coconut shell charcoal media. This is because the pore size in activated charcoal is larger and more numerous than charcoal that has not been activated so that it absorbs more heat. In addition, the greater the vapor speed, the higher the heat flux, because in the test section more vapor enters than vapor that comes out so that the porous media has a long time to absorb heat in the vapor. The heat transfer that occurs in porous media includes forced convection heat transfer because it has a value of Gr/Re2 < 1.

Abstract

Transferring the form of face-to-face learning in conventional classes to online learning is not only as simple as changing learning materials into all-digitalization as not all teachers try to make a proper and organized preparation before starting the online teaching process. With the limited time to practice speaking skills at the National Institute of Technology Malang, the teachers are expected to have the right planning and strategies for their classes. Therefore, this paper reports on the the use of ASSURE model in teaching speaking online from the perspective of two English teachers in the National Institute of Technology Malang. This qualitative study relied primarily on in-depth interviews of the two teachers to gather the information. This research’s findings and recommendations are expected to help provide insights in preparing and developing other online speaking classes to achieve better outcomes.
