Abstract

Massive land conversion into palm oil tree plantation causes massive plantation waste (palm fronds) and the decrease of animal food in Jenggalu Village, Sukaraja, Seluma, Bengkulu. The solution for the problem is by utilizing palm fronds as silage (fermented animal food). The purpose of this community service is to improve the ability of female farmer group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/ KWT) Tanjung Aur in utilizing palm fronds as silage. The method applied is theory and practice on how to create silage, preparing the procedure to create silage along with the main ingredients, and then holding the workshop on processing food fermentation from palm fronds using EM-4 activator. To maintain the continuity of the program, besides choosing the person in charge of the equipment, a supervision was also done in the form of monitoring and evaluation. After the fermentation process is completely applied for the livestock, the obtained results indicate that cows really like the food, this can be seen from the consumption increase. From the observation, the animal food and its technology are categorized as ‘useful’ and ‘very useful’ based on KWT members’ understanding. From the activity, it can be concluded that the KWT members’ ability towards the technology of utilizing palm fronds as silage is improved and it will be continuously applied.

Abstract

One of Bengkulu's local culture is the utilization of medicinal plants by the people of Bengkulu, especially South Bengkulu, namely "Simbagh Utak" (Hydnophytum formicarum) for treating various diseases including Gout. However, they still use naturally, there is no scientific studied. This study was aimed to analyze the effect of “Simbagh Utak” (H. formicarum) on the reduction of serum uric acid levels in hyperuricemia male mice. This study used 25 male mice, that devided into 5 groups. The control group was given pellet feed (G1). We injected the high purine feed treatment per-oral to induce hyperuricemia (Negative control, G2) and then given H. formicarum extract 5.3mg/30gW (G3), 10.2mg/30gW (G4) and 21,2mg/30gW (G5). Uric acid measurements were performed using a digital method with easy touch /GCU. The tubers were extracted with maceration, eluent selection and isolation of the isolated components was carried out using thin layer chromatography and column chromatography. The extraction results were analyzed of functional groups using FTIR. The result showed that “simbagh utak” extract 5.3mg/30gW, 10.2mg/30gW and 21,2mg/30gW could reduced uric acid levels of hyperuricemia male mice 34.1%, 48.0% dan 53.4% respectively. On this basis, we conclude that "Simbagh Utak" extract could reduced levels of uric acid M. musculus males who have experienced a state of hyperuricemia (excess uric acid) very significantly at a dose of 21.2mg /30gW.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to make and test the antibacterial activity of chitosan/silver nanoparticles nanocomposite membranes. Nanocomposite membranes were synthesized by chitosan with pluronic using acetic acid as a solvent. Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using the green synthesis method and the makasar fruit (Brucea javanica L. Merr) peel extract as a bioreductor. The silver nanoparticles were composited with a chitosan/pluronic mixture and printed on a glass plate. Nanocomposite membranes were characterized using the FTIR spectrophotometer and the scanning electron microscope (SEM). Nanocomposite membrane were tested for antibacterial activity against Escherechia coli. The UV-Vis spectra showed the formation of silver nanoparticles which were indicated by the absorption at 454 nm and the absorbance value of 0.405. Characterization using FTIR showed no new functional groups formed in the composites of chitosan and pluronic. SEM results showed the difference between the chitosan membrane and the nanocomposite membrane. The surface of nanocomposite membrane showed uneven compared to the chitosan membrane. Nanocomposite membranes have antibacterial activity to inhibit E. coli growth.   Keywords: nanocomposite, chitosan/silver nanoparticles, antibacterial Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat dan menguji aktivitas antibakteri membran nanokomposit kitosan/nanopartikel perak. Membran nanokomposit dibuat dengan mensintesis kitosan dengan pluronik menggunakan pelarut asam asetat. Nanopartikel perak disintesis menggunakan metode green synthesis dengan ekstrak kulit buah makasar (Brucea javanica L. Merr) sebagai bioreduktor. Nanopartikel perak dikompositkan dengan campuran kitosan/pluronik dan dicetak di atas plat kaca. Membran nanokomposit dikarakterisasi menggunakan spektrofotometer FTIR dan scanning electron microscope (SEM). Membran nanokomposit dilakukan uji aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Escherechia coli. Spektra UV-Vis menunjukkan terbentuknya nanopartikel perak yang ditandai adanya serapan pada panjang gelombang 454 nm dan absorbansi 0,405. Karakterisasi dengan FTIR menunjukkan tidak adanya gugus fungsi baru yang terbentuk pada komposit dari kitosan dan pluronik. Hasil SEM menunjukkan adanya perbedaan antara membran kitosan dengan membran nanokomposit. Permukaan membran nanokomposit terlihat tidak rata dibandingkan membran kitosan. Membran nanokomposit memiliki aktivitas bakteri sehingga dapat mengambat pertumbuhan bakteri E. coli. Kata kunci: nanokomposit, kitosan/nanopartikel perak, antibakteri

Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) merupakan salah satu alternatif imunostimulan alami yang dapat meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh di tengah pandemi COVID-19. Salah satu enzim yang digunakan dalam pembuatan VCO adalah enzim bromelin. Limbah pengolahan selai nanas berupa kulit dan mata nanas mengandung enzim bromelin yang dapat mempercepat terbentuknya VCO. Metode pengabdian ini adalah dengan memberikan sosialisasi dan pelatihan pembuatan VCO kepada anggota UMKM Bay Tat Mak Ririn. Setelah dilakukan pelatihan, anggota UMKM Bay Tat Mak Ririn berhasil memproduksi VCO melalui pemanfaatan limbah selai nanas. Disamping itu, diperoleh peningkatan produksi VCO menggunakan enzim bromelin yang bersumber dari limbah selai nanas sebesar 1,8% dibandingkan dengan VCO tanpa enzim bromelin. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan peserta dalam memproduksi VCO melalui pemanfaatan limbah selai nanas meningkat.

Abstract

Ground Water quality has a special significance for drinking, hygiene sanitation and domestic water supply. The study aims to understand the distribution of ground water quality in solid waste landfill of Bengkulu City. The following objectives of the study are to determine ground water quality parameters such as pH, total dissolved solid, electrical conductivity, hardness, iron, manganese, nitrate and nitrite. Sampling was carried out at a radius of 0 - 250 meters from the location of the landfill. The results of the pH at 10 sampling points show the values that are quite varied between 6,45 – 7,59; conductivity between 56 µS – 492 µS; TDS between 28 mg/L – 246 mg/L; salinity 32 mg/L – 284 mg/L; Iron (Fe) 0,040 mg/L – 0,323 mg/L; Manganese (Mn) 0,089 mg/L – 0,295 mg/L; Nitrate (NO3-) 0,2 mg/L – 0,8 mg/L and Nitrite (NO2-) 0,006 mg/L – 0,033 mg/L. Based on an assessment with the STORET system, water quality in the study area is classified as good (score =-4) by parameters such as temperature, pH, total dissolved solid, electrical conductivity, hardness, iron, manganese, nitrate and nitrite. By the total sampling sites, all sample site had good-quality water for hygiene sanitation based on STORET method.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate the safety of mixture formulations of Tephrosia vogelii and Piper aduncum at various storage temperatures and their insecticidal activity against C. pavonana larvae. Formulations were made from T. vogelii and P. aduncum (1:5) in emulsifiable concentrate (EC) and wettable powder (WP) form. Both formulations have strong insecticidal activity against C. pavonana. This research used a randomized completed design in different temperature treatments. Insecticidal activity of formulations after storage was tested against C. pavonana. The treatments were done using deep leaf method in 5 concentrations and 5 replications. The results showed that LC95 value of EC formulation after storage at condition: below 4°C, room temperature, and 40°C were 0.19%, 0.34% and 0.21% respectively. Based on LC95 value of EC formulation from each treatment, indicated that EC formulation after storage could hold insecticidal activity as good as insecticidal activity before storage due to LC95 value after storage relatively lower than LC95 value before storage (0.35%). In the contrary, WP formulation activity was significantly decreased in all treatments compared to WP formulation activity before storage based on LC95 value.
