Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak enforced teachers to shift a face to face learning into virtual learning, widely known as E-Learning, hastily. The problems and challenges might arise due to the quick shift of learning format. Therefore, this study was aimed at investigating the challenges faced by primary and secondary EFL teachers in conducting online English learning during this pandemic. The qualitative method was used by involving three teachers representing each level of education, including primary level and secondary level. The teachers were chosen purposively by considering various criteria. An open-ended questionnaire was distributed through a Google form. The data were then analyzed inductively. Findings show that productive skills, including speaking and writing skills, become the most challenging skills to teach. Moreover, giving feedback and teaching difficult materials in the basic competence also become the challenges in conducting e-learning for EFL teachers. Therefore, a training specifically provides an effective strategy and approach in online environment is required.

Abstract

Concerns to children with disabilities in terms of their needs for moving and level of physical activity have not been supported by a teacher supply system that is appropriate for their field of study, namely adaptive physical education teachers. This study is aimed at portraying teachers’ profiles of Adaptive Physical Education in special schools in Indonesia. The data collection was carried out by means of questionnaires and articulated with the descriptive approach. The result of the study reveals that the number of specialist teachers with physical education backgrounds is still meager, which is only around 38 percent, compared to those who graduated from Special Education Program, which more than 60.5 percent. The majority of the teachers have never been given a chance to improve their PE teaching competency in the form of training (86,4 percent). It is recommended that there should be an openness from those working in special schools and the Ministry of Education and Culture of the urgent need for this adaptive physical education teacher.  The statement will encourage the evolve of national urgency and drive all the stakeholders to respond to it institutionally, for instance by opening the program for adaptive physical education or at least to pave the way with initially offering concentration for this adaptive PE under the generic PE program.

Abstract

The development of early childhood needs to be considered, considering the child is a parent investment in the future. Meeting the nutritional needs of children has an important role in achieving optimal growth and development, and is one of the determinants of achieving these needs. Nutritional status in children in the school environment often uses height and weight parameters. This study aims to determine the effect of nutritional status on early childhood on motor skills. The method used is ex-post facto in the sample of early childhood aged four to five years who have attended kindergarten with middle-level socioeconomic status. Nutritional status is known through height and weight, gross and fine motor development measured using ASQ 3rd edition. Data was processed with SPSS using the Kruskal Wallis Test analysis technique. The results show 90% of children are in the Thin category, 6.7% are in the Normal category, and 3.3% are in the obesity category. There is no influence of nutritional status on gross and fine motoric abilities in kindergarten children. The results of this study can be used as a consideration for the government to pay attention to nutritional status and motoric abilities of children, in an effort to minimize the gap between the quality of education and the various backgrounds of parents' socio-economic status.

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic, started from the beginning of 2020, has changed the learning process in all levels of education in Indonesia. One of the changes is the shift from face-to-face learning into online learning. This research was aimed at finding out the difficulties faced by Physical Education students in joining a synchronous online learning during the pandemic. The study was a mixed-method study with an exploratory approach. The instrument used in the study was a questionnaire containing close-ended and open-ended questions distributed through a Google Form. The link was shared through WhatsApp. The study involved 118 Physical Education students as participants. The result of the study showed that there were four major obstacles faced by the students in attending a synchronous online learning, including technical problems, internet coverage problems, internet quota problems, and environment problems. In addition, the findings also showed that an effort to facilitate online learning has been given by providing internet quota for most of the students. However, it was not sufficient to support a number of synchronous online learnings. The study concludes that those problems became a barrier for students to comprehend the materials optimally and to communicate interactively during the lesson. It is suggested that, to gain an optimal outcome of the synchronous online learning, the betterment and support regarding the technical aspect should be given, such as the development of internet service coverage and internet quota provision.
