Abstract

Feeling safe due to normal antenatal care, easier to going to health facility, and compliance to God decision as reasons for home delivery choice among village mothers: a qualitative study in Central KalimantanPurposeThe purpose of this paper was to explore mothers’ perceptions of delivery at home in Kartika Bhakti Village, Province of Central Kalimantan. MethodsA case study was conducted involving observations, in-depth interviews and focus group discussion with 7 maternity women, 1 maternity women’s husbands, 1 village midwife, 1 community leader and 1 midwife of the village health post in Kartika Bhakti village, Province of Central Kalimantan.ResultsThe study found six reasons why mothers tended to choose to do delivery at home: barriers to delivery at health facilities; attitudes and preparedness of the midwife to deliver home deliveries; delivery at home benefits; based on the results of the pregnancy examination; not afraid of the risks of delivery; and ready to accept the dangers and risks of delivery.ConclusionThe reasons will be used as a consideration for choosing the birthplace. When the results of a pregnancy examination is good, mothers will tend to choose a home delivery. Furthermore, obstacles in health facilities such as barriers in health centers, geographical, hospital barriers, no postpartum services, and economic abilities are also some of the main reasons to choose to deliver at home. Health education and approaches related to delivery safety need to be improved to change mothers’ perceptions.

Abstract

Compliance of antenatal care and election of birth helpers in NatunaPurposeThis study aimed to determine the association of ANC (Antenatal care) compliance with birth attendant choice in Natuna.MethodsThis study used a cross-sectional method. The subjects of the research were mothers in Natuna regency 2014. The variables were: independent variable (ANC compliance), the dependent variable (the birth attendant choice), and the control variables (age, maternal education, distance to the health facilities, parity). Data collection used questionnaires and interviews. The data analysis used descriptive and inferential analysis. The bivariable analysis used the chi-square test and multivariable analysis used logistic regression test with 95% of confidence interval (CI) and a significance level of p <0.05.ResultsBivariable and multivariable analysis showed significant correlations between ANC compliance with birth attendant choice. Pregnant women who did not comply doing ANC according to the standard that has been set at least four times had a chance two times more likely to give birth with the traditional birth attendant (TBA) than the pregnant women who complied to implement the ANC during pregnancy. Mothers with low education had a chance two times greater of choosing the TBA as birth attendant than women who are highly educated. Mothers with parity of >2 had a chance 1.9 times greater of choosing the TBA as birth attendant than women with parity ≤2.ConclusionsThere needs to be a control program from the health department working with community health workers to socialize awareness of the importance of the ANC. There needs to be the addition of TBA who are trained and partnered especially in remote areas because it cannot be denied there are still many people who choose TBA as a birth helper.

Promiscuity in sexual behavior in adolescent boys in Wirobrajan, Yogyakarta cityPurposeThis study aimed to obtain a description of the factors that promote promiscuity in sexual behavior and its impact in adolescent boys in Wirobrajan.MethodThis qualitative research used a case study design, using snowball sampling. Data were analyzed by content analysis technique.ResultsThe permissiveness of sexual behavior of teenagers will have an impact, and is easily affected by promiscuity behavior. Impact of juvenile promiscuity behavior among others included being ostracized, gonorrhea, syphilis, and genital herpes and other sexually transmitted diseases.ConclusionGreater supervision is needed from various sectors and enforcement of the rules so that the behavior and impact of promiscuity can be minimized. The supervision of teenagers’ association will have an impact on adolescent behavior.
