Abstract

Lemon Citrus (Citrus limon (L.) Burm f.) is one of the plants that has potential as a traditional medicine, and is an excellent source of vitamin C and calcium. Lemon leaf lemon can help overcome cancer, heart and liver. The purpose of this research is to characterize simplicia leaf and to know the chemical compound group contained in leaf. Characterization of simplicia include macroscopic and microscopic examination, determinations of loss on drying, determinations of water soluble extract, determination of ethanol soluble concentration, determination of total ash content, and determination of acid ash in soluble. Phytochemical screening includes the test for alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids/triterpenoids, tannins and saponins. The result obtained from examination of lemon citrus leaf characteristic gave loss on drying 69,29%; total ash content 6,40%; acid insoluble ash 1,23%; ethanol soluble extract 17,73%; water soluble extract 24,79%. The result of phytochemical screening showed that lemon leaf simplicia extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids/triterpenoids and tannins.

Abstract

One of the plants that can be used as medicine is Wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.). Starfruit fruit has antipyretic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory properties, treats coughs and treats rashes. Wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) contains chemical compounds of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, and tannins. This study aims to determine the anti-fungal inhibition of star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) on the growth of Pityrosporum ovale which causes dandruff. The method used to obtain the extract of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) through a maceration process using ethanol 96% solvent. The anti-fungal inhibition test used the agar diffusion method by sticking disc paper on the media that had been grown by the fungus Pityrosporum ovale. The results of phytochemical screening showed that the fruit of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) contained flavonoid, alkaloid, tannin and saponin compounds. The resulting inhibitory power was indicated by the formation of a clear zone at each concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and as a comparison, a positive control of 10% ketonazole was made. The average diameter obtained was 6.26 mm, 7.09 mm, 7.57 mm, 8.07 mm, and 17.29 mm. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the extract of starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) had an inhibitory power against the growth of Pityrosporum ovale.

Abstract

Batang muda rotan manau dapat diolah menjadi makanan seperti makanan khas Mandailing Natal di Tapanuli Selatan Sumatera Utara yang biasa disebut dengan pakkat. Selain sebagai bahan makanan, batang muda rotan manau juga  sebagai bahan obat-obatan karna mengandung senyawa fitokimia yang mampu menjadi antibakteri. Salah satu penyakit yanhg disebabkan bakteri yaitu pneumonia yang disebabkan bakteri Klebsiella pneumonia. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan batang muda rotan manau dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Klebsiella pneumonia. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan pengujian skrining fitokimia untuk mengetahui kandungan metabolit sekunder batang muda rotan manau dan selanjutnya pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dengan metode difusi cakram dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 20%,40%, 60%, 80%. Hasil skrinig fitokimia menunjukkan batang muda rotan manau mengandung flavonoid, glikosida, saponin dan tanin. Pada uji aktivitas antibakteri diperoleh zona hambat pada masing-masing konsentrasi dari yang terendah yaitu 11,38mm , 12,30mm, 13,78mm, 14,33mm. Disimpulkan bahwa batang muda rotan manau mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Klebsiella pneumonia. Keywords: antibakteri, Rotan manau (Calamus manan), Klebsiella pneumonia

Abstract

Salak is a fruit that contains various health benefits, including the flesh of the fruit which contains bioactive compounds. Taking bioactive compounds directly from the flesh of the salak fruit will require quite a lot of biomass. Obtaining these bioactive compounds can be streamlined by using endophytic bacteria. Endophytic bacteria able to produce compounds of  antibacterial. The aimed of this study to examine the antibacterial potential of  endophytic bacteria derived from the flesh of the Pondoh and Padangsidempuan salak fruit against pathogenic bacteria, namely Escherichia coli. Method this studies is a laboratory experiment. A total of 10 isolates consisting of 6 isolates of Pondoh salak and 4 isolates of Padangsidempuan salak used were the results of isolation from salak fruit flesh in previous studies. Based on the results of the study, ten isolates indicate of antimicrobial activity to Escherichia coli. The inhibition zone diameter of highest value was owned by SP4 isolate, which was 1.1 mm. These results indicate that endophytic bacteria from the pulp of Pondoh and Padangsidempuan salak possess the potential to produce antibacterial compounds against gram-negative pathogenic bacteria, namely Escherichia coli.

Abstract

Amylolytic bacteria have great genetic diversity with high enzymatic activity and have the expertise to break down starch into simpler materials and degrade organic substances in water. This study aims to determine the variety of types of amylolytic bacteria obtained and to see how the characterization of bacteria is isolated from the waters of Paris Tigaras Beach. Isolation of amylolytic bacteria from the waters of Paris Tigaras Beach was carried out using the spread plate method taken from the last dilution of 10-5. Isolates ST3 03 and ST3 04 showed amylolytic activity by showing a clear zone of 11.8 mm in isolates ST3 03 and 8.2 mm in isolates ST3 04. Characterization of isolates ST3 03 and ST3 04 was observed including Gram-positive bacteria with rod-shaped cells, that can produce catalase enzymes, ferment three types of sugars, and move (motil). From the results of observations of the morphology of bacterial colonies and cells, and biochemical tests, isolates of amylolytic bacteria ST3 03 and ST3 04 belong to the genus Bacillus.
