Abstract

Salmonella Sp is a gram-negative pathogens that are often found in marine foods, one of  process of serving  salmon is channeling lime juice, where lime juice is acidic and has phytochemical properties that have anti-bacterial properties. This study aims to explore anti-bacterial effect lime juice on Salmonella thypii bacteria in Salmon. This research is an experimental study using  disc diffusion method. Lime samples that were used were purchased from one of the modern markets in Medan which were made in several series of concentrations using distilled water as a solvent, while the salmon samples used in this study were purchased from one of the Japanese dining restaurants located in Medan City. Meanwhile, isolation of Salmonella thypii bacteria from salmon samples was carried out using nutrient broth and SSA media. The results of this study indicate that differences in concentration indicate the differences in the diameter of the inhibitory zone (P value = 0.000). With the diameter of the widest inhibition zone formed by a concentration of 100% is 15.40 ± 0.44 mm and the smallest diameter is formed by a concentration of 5% which is 7.23 ± 0.55 mm. Thus, it can be concluded that the lime juice has anti-bacterial activity against Salmonella thypii bacteria from salmon.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease problem in Indonesia due to the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin so the body's metabolic processes are disrupted. Platelet Rich Plasma is widely known to be a treatment in various fields of medicine because it contains many growth factors (GFs) which are useful for triggering growth, tissue, and cell regeneration. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of PRP at doses of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 ml/kg BW for improving lipid profiles. This study used an experimental method where PRP was made twice centrifugation, then divided into each treatment, each group was given twice a week for three weeks. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for normally distributed data followed by the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the analysis Mann-Whitney with a significant value of P <0.05, that is, there was an effect of PRP administration on improving levels of lipid profiles. The PRP dose of 0.5 ml/kg BW gave the effect of increasing the lipid profile except for HDL levels and a higher PRP dose was required to significantly increase HDL levels compared to the control group.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is a metabolic disorder group with mechanisms that include hyperglycemia, insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia. Type 2 DM has a close association with IGF-1, where the active form of the IGF-1 becomes elevated by reason of the fact that hyperinsulinemia inhibits the production of IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP) 1/IGFBP 2. The active form of IGF-1 has the ability to promote cell proliferation and inhibit apoptosis, hence becomes one of the risk factors for cancer cell growth. This was an analytical study conducted in August at the Harapan Bunda Clinic, Medan, Indonesia to determine the difference between the IGF-1 level and blood glucose level in type 2 DM patients in different age groups. Twenty subjects with Type 2 DM participated in this study and were divided based on their age into 35-50 years old or Group 1 and 51-65 year old group or Group 2. The IGF-1 levels in both groups were compared and analyzed using the T-test dependent method. Results showed that the IGF-1 and blood glucose levels were higher in Group 1 (35-50 years old) when compared to Group 2 and the difference was significant. The change in the IGF-1 level in diabetic patients cannot be determined only by the blood sugar level.

Abstract

Andaliman is one of the many spice plants native to North Sumatra and is known to have many benefits as a pain reliever, anti-inflammatory, cough medicine, rheumatism, and back pain. In this study, a series of test was done to  identify for steroid compounds from the fraction of methanol andaliman extract (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) by using thin layer chromatography. This study was designed to determine the presence of terpenoid/steroid compounds in the andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC) extract . Extraction was carried out using by maceration method  using methanol as solvent, followed by phytochemical test and confirmation test using TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) namely GF254 plate as stationary phase, mixture of n-hexane:ethyl acetate with ratio of 7:3 as mobile phase, the appearance of the stains were carried out on UV with wavelenghts of 254 nm and 366 nm and by spraying Liebermann Burchard reagent as a spot viewer. The results of the phytochemical screening analysis on the Andaliman extract showed that the methanol andaliman extract contained steroid compounds and the TLC analysis showed a blue color, which was the result of a fraction indicating the presence of steroids and a pink color indicating the presence of terpenoids. The smallest terpenoid Rf stain was 0 cm and the highest Rf was 0.92 cm, while the smallest steroid Rf stain was 0 cm and the highest Rf was 0.71cm. Therefore, the Rf value for terpenoids, which is the result of the fraction of ethyl acetate and the Rf value of steroids, which is the result of the fraction of n-hexane and ethyl acetate, has met the requirements for a good Rf value between 0.2 to 0.8.Keywords: Andaliman; Steroids; Fractionation; Thin layer chromatography. Abstract

Osteoporosis doesn't only affect elderly people, but it can also appear in younger people. Therefore, we must have well prepare prevention at a young age to prevent osteoporosis at an older age. This study intends to see the correlation between the education level and with prevention measure of osteoporosis. It uses an analytical observational research design with a cross-sectional study approach. The respondent sample was 76 respondents which were calculated through the Slovin formula. This research was conducted by using a questionnaire. The result of the studies was analyzed using spearman correlation with Cronbach Alpha 0,05. Most of the resulting studies, contain 81,6% of people who have a good education level. 84,2% of respondents have a prevention measure mild. Spearman value (p=0,770), where p is larger than alpha (p>0,05). Therefore, it can be concluded there's no relation between the education level of osteoporosis and with prevention measure of osteoporosis. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient value (r = -0.034), which indicates the correlation strength is very low and has a negative correlation direction that can be concluded if the level of knowledge is good then the precautions will be bad and vice versa as well.
