Abstract

Salmonella Sp is a gram-negative pathogens that are often found in marine foods, one of  process of serving  salmon is channeling lime juice, where lime juice is acidic and has phytochemical properties that have anti-bacterial properties. This study aims to explore anti-bacterial effect lime juice on Salmonella thypii bacteria in Salmon. This research is an experimental study using  disc diffusion method. Lime samples that were used were purchased from one of the modern markets in Medan which were made in several series of concentrations using distilled water as a solvent, while the salmon samples used in this study were purchased from one of the Japanese dining restaurants located in Medan City. Meanwhile, isolation of Salmonella thypii bacteria from salmon samples was carried out using nutrient broth and SSA media. The results of this study indicate that differences in concentration indicate the differences in the diameter of the inhibitory zone (P value = 0.000). With the diameter of the widest inhibition zone formed by a concentration of 100% is 15.40 ± 0.44 mm and the smallest diameter is formed by a concentration of 5% which is 7.23 ± 0.55 mm. Thus, it can be concluded that the lime juice has anti-bacterial activity against Salmonella thypii bacteria from salmon.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease, which is not able to secrete insulin in sufficient quantities or the body is unable to use insulin effectively so there is an excess glucose level and immediately suffer from some complications against the organs. Diabetes mellitus can be cured by herb utility which are thought to have compounds that has an antidiabetic effect. Therefore, this literature study discusses the antidiabetic activity of orange peel (Citrus sp.). The literature search was carried out on the Google Scholar search engine which used some keyword included antidiabetic, extract, orange peel, Citrus. In this literature study, there are inclusion and exclusion criteria for selecting journals as literature sources. The results of 12 literatures review that orange peel had antidiabetic activity by decrease blood glucose levels in some animal trials that had received an effective dose of orange peel extract in each of the reviewed studies. Hence, it can be concluded that various type of Citrus peels has antidiabetic effect.

Abstract

Although some previous studies have discussed the nursing process for type 2 diabetes mellitus; however, research that specifically discusses adapting the nursing process for type 2 diabetes mellitus through needs analysis has never been studied before. This systematic review aims to review some research publications on nurses' understanding of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the nursing process for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and a needs analysis based type 2 nursing process training model. By using descriptive qualitative research methods, this study uses scientific journal publications in the last ten years as the object of research to describe the condition of nurses' understanding of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the nursing process of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, and nursing training models based on needs analysis. The results of this systematic review revealed that most of the research journal articles focused on revealing the care of patients with diabetes mellitus by doctors, medical therapy for patients with diabetes mellitus, and comorbidities caused by diabetes mellitus. However, research on nursing training to intensify the implementation of the nursing process for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus is still very rarely done. By observing this condition, research on the implementation of the nursing process for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus based on analysis is very necessary to improve the quality of health services for patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Inulin is a type of polysaccharide that is commonly found in nature derived from the dahlia tuber plant, and other plants such as chicory, Jerusalem artichoke, Yaco´n potato and asparagus. Inulin is widely used in industry and pharmaceuticals. In the industrial world, inulin is used as a source of natural sweetener, enhances the taste of food, ferments, and is a low-fiber food source. While in the pharmaceutical world, inulin can be used in several studies, one of which is as an anti-diabetic. This study aims to determine the potential of dahlia tuber inulin as an anti-diabetic. The type of research is a narrative review. Search data using three databases, namely Elsevier (SCOPUS), Pubmed and Google Scholar with a limitation of the last 10 years of articles with the keyword "inulin for diabetes", with the PRISMA method. The results showed that inulin works on glucose absorption in the intestine, lowers blood sugar levels, lowers hemoglobin A1c, increases circulating GLP-1, reduces hyperglycemia, reduces insulin resistance (IR) and hyperlipidemia, reduces oxidative stress, increases insulin and leptin levels, facilitates glucose transport of GLUT4 by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway, is anti-inflammatory, and is involved in the expression of several anti-hyperglycemic genes. The conclusion is that dahlia tuber inulin has an anti-diabetic effect.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2 DM) is a metabolic disorder group with mechanisms that include hyperglycemia, insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia. Type 2 DM has a close association with IGF-1, where the active form of the IGF-1 becomes elevated by reason of the fact that hyperinsulinemia inhibits the production of IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP) 1/IGFBP 2. The active form of IGF-1 has the ability to promote cell proliferation and inhibit apoptosis, hence becomes one of the risk factors for cancer cell growth. This was an analytical study conducted in August at the Harapan Bunda Clinic, Medan, Indonesia to determine the difference between the IGF-1 level and blood glucose level in type 2 DM patients in different age groups. Twenty subjects with Type 2 DM participated in this study and were divided based on their age into 35-50 years old or Group 1 and 51-65 year old group or Group 2. The IGF-1 levels in both groups were compared and analyzed using the T-test dependent method. Results showed that the IGF-1 and blood glucose levels were higher in Group 1 (35-50 years old) when compared to Group 2 and the difference was significant. The change in the IGF-1 level in diabetic patients cannot be determined only by the blood sugar level.
