Abstract

Shigellosis is a food or water-borne disease that produces an inflammatory response in the colon through enterotoxins and bacterial invasion. The earthworm Lumbricus rubellus produces an anti-bacterial substance called lumbricin l. The aim of this study was to determine the inhibition of earthworm (Lumbricus rubellus) extract against the growth of Shigella dysentriae bacteria. This study is a True Experiment with Post Test Only Control Group Design, using a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 6 treatment groups, namely extract concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% positive control (Ciprofloxacin) and negative control (aquabides). , with 4 repetitions. The bacterial suspension was adjusted to the standard Mc Farland turbidity 0.5. The inhibition test of earthworm extract on the growth of Shigella dysentriae bacteria in vitro showed that the earthworm extract with concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, and 80% was not able to inhibit the growth of Shigella dysentriae bacteria.

Abstract

Pyogenic Staphylococcus bacteria is one of the bacteria that can infect the respiratory tract. Red ginger is a traditional plant containing flavonoids, phenols, essential oils, and tannins that function as antibacterial ingredients. This study aims to determine the inhibition of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var rubrum) juice against the growth of pyogenic Staphylococcus bacteria. The design carried out in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatment groups consisting of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var rubrum) with a concentration of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 2 control groups consisting of positive controls. (Ampicylin) and negative control using aquabides. After incubation, it was seen and measured the diameter of the inhibition zone called oligodynamic (empty area), using a ruler. All data obtained were statistically tested with One Way Anova which has a 95% confidence level (p value = 0.05) and with the help of SPSS to find out which concentrations were significant. The concentration of red ginger feeling shows the diameter of the inhibition zone on average that is 20% (12.67) mm, 40% (13.67) mm, 60% (14.67) mm, 80% (15.33) mm, all of them were effective against the growth of pyogenic Staphylococcus bacteria. Positive control using ampicylin showed a mean (22.00) mm. Based on the results of the One Way Anova statistical test, the p value is 0.000 or less than 0.05 so that there is an effect of red ginger juice on the growth of pyogenic Staphylococcus bacteria.

Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in systolic blood pressure >140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure >90 mmHg, also known as the silent killer. Risk factors for hypertension are categorized into modifiable risk factors i.e. physical activity and stress, and non-modifiable risk factor i.e. age. As a person becomes older, the elasticity of blood vessels will decrease, thereby increasing the prevalence of hypertension at the age of 45 years and beyond. Objective to find out the association of physical activity and stress with hypertension incidence among pre-elderly in RSUD DR. R. Soedjono Selong, East Lombok. This study was an observational analytic quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. This study was conducted in RSUD DR. R. Soedjono Selong, East Lombok in November-December 2022. The sample was 30 respondents. The data obtained were analyzed by Chi Square test with a significance value (p ≤ 0.05). 73% of the 30 sample respondents were hypertension patients who had moderate physical activity, 10% had mild, and none had heavy physical activity. For stress category 60% was moderate, 13% light, and 10% severe. 7% of the 30 sample respondents did not suffer from hypertension and had moderate physical activity, 3% had light and 7% had heavy. For stress category none was moderate, 13% mild and 10% severe. A value of p = 0.018 (p <0.05) was obtained for the association of physical activity with hypertension incidence among pre-elderly, and a value of p = 0.001 (p <0.05) was obtained for the association of stress with hypertension incidence among pre-elderly. There was a significant association of physical activity and stress with hypertension incidence among pre-elderly in RSUD DR. R. Soedjono Selong, East Lombok.

Abstract

According to the results of the intestinal nematode infections survey in 10 provinces in Indonesia in 2014, the average national intestinal nematode infections prevalence was 30.35%. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is one of the provinces in Indonesia with quite high cases of intestinal nematode infections in school children with a total proportion of 69.03% and 73.45%. intestinal nematode infections in Mataram City is 87.54%. Intestinal nematode infections which cannot be treated immediately can cause a high risk of nutritional deficiencies, growth retardation, and a decreased ability to think and manage thoughts and behavior. This study was conducted to analyze the association between intestinal nematode infections with nutritional status in children aged 7 to 10 years. Observational analytic study with a cross-sectional study design was used. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The study was conducted in SDN 40 Cakranegara with a sample number of 38 respondents. The data obtained were analyzed by Fisher Exact Test The significance value limit was ρ-value >0.05. The characteristics of respondents were dominated by male elementary school-age children, and the highest height was 131-140 cm. with the age of most respondents aged 8 to 9 years, based on the most classes were respondents who occupied grade 2 elementary school, and with the most weight in the weight range of 20-30 kg. In bivariate analysis, it was found that there was no association between intestinal nematode infections and nutritional status, indicated by the ρ-value 0,49 (>0.05). In this study, there was no association between intestinal nematode infections and nutritional status, with a percentage of intestinal nematode infections at 5.3%, and respondents who were not infected had a prevalence of 94.7%.
