Abstract

An investigation of Congo Red photodegradation using TiO2-Zeolite and UV radiation was performed. TiO2-Zeolite was prepared by dispersing of pillaring solution (in form oligocations of titanium) into suspension of Zeolite. The suspension was stirred and then filtered to separate the solid phase from the filtrate. the solid phase was calcined by microwave oven at 800 Watt for 5 minutes to convert the oligocations into its oxide forms. The calcined product and  unmodified Zeolite were characterized using x-ray diffractometry, FT-IR spectrophotometry, X-ray fluorescence and gas sorption analysis to determine their physicochemical properties.        Photocatalytic activity of TiO2-Zeolite was tested on Congo Red using following method: 50 mg of Zeolite was dispersed into 25 mL of 10-4 M Congo Red. The dispersion was irradiated using 365 nm UV light at room temperature on various irradiation times, i.e. 10,20,30,40 and 60 minutes.  At certain irradiation time, the dispersion was filtered and the filtrate was then analyzed its concentration using UV-vis spectrophotometry method.         Characterization results exhibited that the formation of TiO2 on internal as well as external surfaces of Zeolite could not be detected  with x-ray diffractometry and FT-IR spectrophotometry, however determination of titanium using x-ray fluorescence analysis on the calcined product showed that the concentration of titanium was much higher than Zeolite (0.22% on Zeolite and 12.08% on TiO2-Zeolite). Gas sorption analysis result indicated that the the calcination  resulted in the increase of specific surface area (16,31 m2/g on Zeolite and 100,96 m2/g on TiO2-Zeolite) as well as total pore volume  of calcined product (13,34 mL/Å/g on Zeolite and 57,54 mL/Å/g on TiO2-Zeolite). Photocalytic activitiy test result conducted on that dye showed that ca 99 % of Congo Red was degraded by the system TiO2-Zeolite after UV irradiation for 60 minutes. Keywords: TiO2-Zeolite, photocatalytic, UV-irradiation, Congo Red

Abstract

Research on synthesis of TiO2/Zeolite and Its application as photocatalyst in Tapioca Starch Wastewater Treatment has been investigated. Research conducted by synthesis  of TiO2/zeolite by ion exchange process to exchangeable cations in natural zeolite by Ti4+ solution at varied concentration of 0,12 M, 0, 24 M and 0,48 M followed by oxidation and calcination process, followed characterization by analysis of Ti content, XRD measurement, specific surface area measurement and photoactivity toward methylene blue photodegradation.  TiO2/zeolite photoactivity toward photodegradation of tapioca starch wastewater was tested by exposing photocatalyst-wastewater suspension with UV light in varied time and ratio of photocatalyst weight: volume of wastewater.Result of research showed that TiO2/zeolite  has a photoactivity to decrease COD and cyanide content of tapioca starch wastewater. The photoactivity related to specific surface area and photoactivity toward methylene blue photodegradation physical character and also photodegradation time. The highest photoactivity reached by TiO2/zeolite-1 which is resulted by Ti4+concentration of 0,12 M in the ion exchange process to natural zeolite. Keywords :  zeolite, photocatalyst, wastewater quality

Abstract

Tandem cyclization reaction towards menthol-citronellal hydrogenation reactions through one-step reaction with a variety of methods using pillared montmorillonite catalyst ZrO2 (Zr-MMT) have been done. The research aimed to determine the effectiveness of Zr-MMT catalyst in the reaction process with two different methods; first method comprises reacting flow system to citronellal - catalyst mixture after reflux with pressure and flow H2  of  3 kPa, and the other method consists of a flow system to the citronellal -catalyst  mixture at the  temperature of 200o C with H2  flow pressure of 2 kPa. Reaction products were analyzed using GC-MS to determine the total conversion and product yield of menthol. The results showed that the different methods give different reaction mechanisms significantly. The first method gives almost to 99% conversion of citronellal with major products of   isomenthone and isopulegol while the second method give the conversion of 5.18%  with 0.39% selectivity to menthol products. Compared with natural montmorillonite, both processes showed higher conversion in which the conversion of citronellal over montmorillonite give the concersion less than 5%. The adequacy of H2 flow rate as a reactant is an important factor affection the mechanism is discussed in this paper.

Abstract

Dispersion of titanium dioxide into montmorilonite pillared silica (SiO2-montmorillonite) was performed in order to gain homogeneous dispersion of TiO2 in solid support having high specific surface area, thermal stability and chemical stability. In this research, effect of titanium precursor to the physicochemical character of material was studied. Three different precursors : TiCl4, TiOCl2 and  titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP) were dispersed on SiO2-montmorillonite  at the concentration of 5% followed by calcination at 400oC for 3 h. Evaluation on material character was studied based on XRD, surface area analyzer and spectrophotometer Diffuse Reflectance UV-Visible (DRUV-Vis) measurements.Result of research show that there is a strong dependency between material properties and tittanium precursor.  By three kind of precursors, it can be concluded that main factor playing  role in determination of dispersion homogeneity is pH of the system in that TiCl4 cause structure delamination of SiO2-montmorillonite. Based on physicochemical characters, it can remarkably concluded that the success of dispersion by variation of titanium precursors as follow: TTIPTiOCl2TiCl4 .
