Abstract

This is a library research which aims at finding out the use of media in teaching English is implemented and aims at finding out the use of media in innovative learning to improve students’ achievement in learning English based on literature analysis. The data were collected using investigation technique of discourses from textbooks, articles, journals, papers and other relevant data sources. There are 10 sources in this study, those are: Sutirman (2013), Rahmi (2014), Mudofir (2015), Tanggoro (2015), Muktamir (2017), Nurrita (2018), Hanif (2019), Nurdyansyah (2019), Emilda (2020), and Maru'ao (2020). The researcher analyzed the data by reading deeply to get understanding of the important data from all of the sources. The researcher reviewed to look for similarities or association between one source and another source. After that, the researcher paraphrased and elaborated the statements to give valuable information. The data analysis technique included the process of data identification from relevant literature sources. The findings from the selected data were explained and summarized by where the data are located, how the data are obtained, evaluated, and incorporated into the research presentation. The result of the analysis from all the sources showed that the implementation of the use of media in teaching English to junior and senior high school students and the use of media in innovative learning can improve students’ achievement in learning English.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of using mind mapping technique to improve students’ writing ability. This study is a library research and used content analysis method to analyze the data. Of the 5 (five) journals and previous research about using mind mapping technique to teach English, all of them proved the technique to be effective. The findings showed that using mind mapping technique also improves students’ skill in writing aspects such as grammar, vocabulary, and idea organization. Furthermore, the biggest challenge in conducting mind-mapping technique was some of the students did not understand the characteristic of a mind mapping quite well. They wrote too much sentences in their mind maps. Thus, the solution applied by the previous researcher was using a warm up activity that is related to the mind-mapping technique to increase students’ motivation in writing and students’ understanding about the use of mind-mapping technique. Finally, the researcher suggests the English teachers to apply various learning activities and implement mind-mapping technique to motivate students such as using various media and pictures in teaching and learning of writing.

Abstract

This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Gunung Meriah, Aceh Singkil. It was intended to find out whether the use of Numbered Head Together improved students’ speaking ability in learning speaking or not. The researcher used random sampling by drawing lottery number. The sample of this research was the students of grade VIII-1. The data was collected by researcher using pre-test, treatment and post-test. The materials used in the speaking tests were pictures. The speaking aspects were pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. In analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical formula. The mean score of pre-test was 45 and post-test was 70. The data showed that the improvement of the mean was 25. The critical value of 0.05 significant level and 19 degree of freedom was 2.093. The result of t-test (3.930) was higher than t-table (2.093). So, this mean that the implementation of teaching speaking skill by using Numbered Head Together give significant difference in students speaking scores between pre-test and post-test of students VIII-1 of SMPN 3 Gunung Meriah.

Abstract

Oral corrective feedback is the teacher’s response and strategy toward students’ oral errors in the classroom especially in learning English as the target language. The study was aimed at finding out the types of oral corrective feedback dominantly used by the teachers at SMA Labschool USK Banda Aceh and their perceptions about oral corrective feedback. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research using interview guide adopted from Fungula (2013) as the instrument of the research. To obtain the data, the researcher used interview dan recorded the data using smartphone. The findings show that there are four types of oral corrective feedback appeared as the types dominantly used by the teachers namely; recast, metalinguistic feedback, elicitation, and repetition. Furthermore, the teachers have positive opinions about oral corrective feedback. The teachers also explained the way they applied oral corrective feedback and the appropriate timing in providing the feedback. In their opinions, they believed they should adaptable and flexible in using various types of oral corrective feedback in order to obtain the best outcome on learners’ speaking skill in English. Regarding to the result, the researcher suggests the English teachers enhance their awareness about the advantages of different types of oral corrective feedback. In addition, future studies is needed on the learners’ uptake and their perceptions toward oral corrective feedback, as well as students’ preferences regarding explicit or implicit feedbacks.

Abstract

This research belongs to a library research. This study aims to figure out whether teaching writing skill using think pair share technique is effective or not according to some literatures. Meanwhile, the objects of this study are theories and literatures about the effectiveness of using TPS in teaching writing ability. The researcher used library research as the method in this study. There are five literatures in the forms of journal articles related to the topic of this research as the references to collect the data. In collecting data, the researcher used content analysis. First, the writer searched out some references such as books, journals, and articles. Then, the writer read and selected the needed data based on the research objective. After reviewing five references of previous studies regarding the effectiveness of using TPS to teach writing, the writer concluded that each literature proved that Think Pair Share technique is an effective technique to teach writing skill, it can be seen from the result of observation, the students’ result of every cycle, and the students’ score in pre-test and post-test. The writer suggests teachers should train and enhance students’ writing interest by giving interesting writing materials. Teachers should use time allocation effectively in order to make the teaching learning process able to be used maximally.

Abstract

This research aimed at analysing whether the use of Numbered Head Together (NHT) technique in improving students’ writing ability based on the experts and some previous studies. Library research was used as the method of this research. NHT is a cooperative learning that aims to increase students’ writing ability by using four steps; numbering, submitting questions, collective thinking, and answering. The data for this research were obtained from previous works of the other researchers and some literature sources include books, journals, articles, and other relevant data sources. The data analysis technique includes the process of data identification from relevant literature sources, determining where the data is located, obtaining the data, evaluating the data, and incorporating the data into the research presentation. The result of the analysis from all the sources showed that the use of NHT can improve students’ writing ability and the aspects of writing such as content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanic.
