Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan menulis drama bahasa Inggris berdasarkan cerita lokal dan kearifan lokal dapat dilestarikan dengan menggunakan drama bahasa Inggris berdasarkan cerita lokal dari mahasiswa semester 7 Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas PGRI Semarang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini adalah kemampuan mahasiswa semester 7 dari Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas PGRI Semarang dalam menulis drama berbahasa Inggris adalah bagus. Kedua, ada tiga unsur kearifan lokal yang ditemukan pada drama berbahasa Inggris yang ditulis mahasiswa, yaitu pengakuan tindakan, perilaku, dan pengaruh sumber daya geografis dan alam.This research was conducted in order to convey the ability of writing English drama based on local story and how local wisdom can be preserved by using English drama based on local story by the 7th semester students of the English Education Department of IKIP PGRI Semarang. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The result is average students’ writing skills is 73%. It can be concluded that the ability of the 7th semester student of English Education Department IKIP PGRI Semarang in a writing English drama is good. Second, there are three elements of local wisdom found on students’ English drama, namely recognition of actions, behaviors, and the influence of geographical and natural resources.

Abstract

Anak-anak pemikir dan pelajar yang aktif membangun pengetahuan dan informasi melalui interaksi aktif dengan lingkungan dalam berbagai tahap pembangunan. Melalui lagu-lagu sederhana dan puisi, anak-anak dapat belajar dan memiliki pengalaman bahasa, terutama bahasa asing Inggris. Jazz Chants adalah salah satu dari mereka. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu deskriptif kualitatif. Data-data diperoleh melalui wawancara, observasi, dan angket terhadap guru PAUD TK Bina Insani. Selanjutnya, dilakukan triangulasi terhadap data-data hasil penelitian yang telah diperoleh. Dengan demikian, data hasil penelitian yang diperoleh dan dideskripsikan akurat/valid. Dengan menggunakan strategi jazz chant, sangat membantu para siswa untuk lebih antusias dalam belajaar bahasa Inggris. Jazz chants membuat siswa TK bisa menghafal materi berbahasa Inggris dengan mudah. Karena strategi ini diajarkan dengan menggunakan ritme dan irama yang mudah dihafal oleh siswa TK. ?é?á Kata Kunci: jazz, TK, pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris

Abstract

AbstractPublic speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners. Speaking in front of audience is not an easy task. It needs a good speaking skill. Fear and nervousness become major problem, especially for beginners who have not experienced in public speaking. This also occurs in members of the Muslim Youth Forum Gayamsari (Foksari). Their speaking competence is inadequate. That is why Public Speaking training activity is held. It is expexted to improve their skills. This activity is performed in two stages, namely the delivery of content and practice. Based on the evaluation, the results obtained are very significant. The existence of enthusiastic participants indicates that they are very interested. Besides, there is a seriousness of the participants who attend a series of events organized by the team from beginning to end.Key Words: Skill, Public Speaking, TrainingAbstrakBerbicara di depan umum adalah proses berbicara kepada sekelompok orang dengan cara terstruktur yang disengaja dimaksudkan untuk menginformasikan, mempengaruhi, atau menghibur pendengar. Berbicara di depan umum bukanlah tugas yang mudah. Perlu keterampilan berbahasa yang baik. Ketakutan dan kegelisahan menjadi masalah besar, terutama bagi pemula yang belum berpengalaman dalam public speaking. Ini juga terjadi pada anggota Youth Forum Muslim Gayamsari (Foksari). Kompetensi berbahasa mereka tidak memadai. Itulah sebabnya kegiatan pelatihan Public Speaking diadakan. Hal ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan keterampilan mereka. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam dua tahap, yaitu pengiriman konten dan praktek. Berdasarkan evaluasi, hasil yang diperoleh sangat signifikan. Adanya peserta antusias menunjukkan bahwa mereka sangat tertarik. Selain itu, ada keseriusan dari para peserta yang menghadiri serangkaian acara yang diselenggarakan oleh tim dari awal sampai akhir.Kata Kunci: Keterampilan, Speaking Training, Public

Abstract

The objectives of the study are (1) To categorize the cultural terms found in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Parukinto The Dancer(2) To describe the techniques implemented in the translation of cultural terms in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Parukinto The Dancer (3) To find out the contribution of novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk and The Dancer to Cross Cultural Understanding teaching.This is a descriptive research with qualitative analysis. The writer used following steps: (a) the writer read the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari and its translation The Dancer by Rene T.A. Lysloff, (b) the writer search the cultural terms in the novel, (c) the writer analyzed the cultural terms found in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk and its translation The Dancer, (d) the writer analyzed the technique of translation, (e) the writer analyzed both of the novel to find out the possible contribution to Cross Cultural Understanding teaching. The result of this research are (1) Categories cultural terms found in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk and The Dancer. There are four categories of cultural terms related to Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk and The Dancer. Those are material culture, social culture, activities and procedures, and then gestures and habits. (2) technique implemneted in the translation of cultural terms in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk into The Dancer. In translation the novel, the translator applied borrowing technique i.e without any change the word of culture. (3) contribution of the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk and The Dancer to Cross Cultural Understanding teaching. The contribution of translation analysis of cultural terms in the novel is giving information and developing the student’s knowledge. It also can be the new media of Cross Cultural Understanding teaching.

Abstract

In this study, the writer uses a material object namely The Farewell 2019 movie to find out what kind of culture shock was found and its implications. Have an authentic and informative story. For us viewers who are not ethnic Chinese, we get new knowledge about Chinese family traditions which are actually 'saklek' and have important meaning for them. In this study used the descriptive qualitative method. Descriptive studies is a form of studies that indicated to describe phenomena that exist, both natural phenomena and artificial phenomena. The main data of this study was taken from the movie entitled The Farewell 2019. The writer takes the data source by observing each film scene and will capture each scene. The method used in collecting data was the documentation method. In this study, descriptive qualitative approach analysis was used to analyze culture shock in The Farewell 2019 movie. The movie reflects the culture shock of the main character. The writer also found the stages of a person's phase when experiencing culture shock which is divided into four stages; the honeymoon, the hostility, the recovery, and the adjustment. All of them is reflected in the main character, Billy Wang who gets a culture shock in his native China. In cultural implications, The Farewell 2019 movie is reflected in the acceptance that after a person goes through several phases of culture shock and the imply in the movie is starting to accept and learn the culture of other countries, including a form of positive attitude in understanding different cultures, not closing oneself and always open to changes and differences in the surrounding environment.

Abstract

Selama ini, meskipun masih banyak dilangsungkan upacara perkawinan menggunakan adat Jawa Tengah, masyarakat sering tidak tahu sosok penting penata acara perhelatan tersebut yang disebut sebagai panatacara. Profesi panatacara sulit ditemui karena biasanya hanya dikuasai oleh individu. Tujuan yang dicapai melalui program pendampingan bagi pemuda desa Grabag dan Kliwonan Kabupaten Magelang adalahmengoptimalkan pemahaman dan kemampuan pemuda desa terkait 1) urut-urutan dan tata cara perkawinan adat Jawa Tenga dan 2) kinerja seorang panatacara. Tujuan tersebut dapat tercapai dengan metode pelatihan/pendampingan, alih teknologi, sharing pengalaman, dan simulasi kinerja panatacara dalam prosesi perkawinan adat Jawa Tengah. Kegiatan pendampingan dapat dikatakan berhasil, hal itu ditunjukkan dengan meningkatnya pemahaman pemuda karang taruna terkait 1) urutan dan tata cara upacara perkawinan adat Jawa Tengah dan 2) kinerja panatacara. Para pemuda karang taruna juga mendapatkan tambahan keahlian sebagai panatacara.

Abstract

This research analyzed Shawshank Redemption movie, a movie by Frank Darabont. This movie told about the struggling of Andy Dufresne who was accused of the murder of his wife and her affair. This research focused on moral value of the movie. The methodology of this research is descriptive qualitative method. This study aims to found the moral values of Shawshank Redemption movie. Documentation method was used to collect the data and descriptive analysis technique to analyze the data. The results of this study are the moral values found in the Shawshank Redemption movie; honestly, hard work, unconditional love and kindness, compassion, and co-operation. Then hard work as the most dominant moral value appears in the Shawshank Redemption movie, because this moral value often occurs in this movie.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to find the truth of Gibbs & Colston theory in Meutia’s poetry and to find out the types of figurative language and the most dominant kind of figurative language in Meutia’s poetry. The study focused figurative language in Meutia’s poetry Tigress. The study used descriptive qualitative method and Gibbs & Colston’s theory (2012) is used for identifying the figurative language. The writer chooses six poetries randomly. There are Moonset, Migration, Materialism, Your City, What Your Heart is Not, and Awkward Silence. Gibbs & Colston theory (2012) conducted about evaluating the use of metaphors, metonymy, irony, idioms, and proverbs. Gibbs & Colston (2012 : 19) state that special feature of figurative language may have much to do with their meaning products as with the cognitive processes used to create those meaning. The result of the study is idiom 1 data, irony 5 data, metaphor 133 data, and metonymy 2 data. Proverbs are not found in this study. Figurative language is found metaphor, metonymy, idiom, and irony.  The most dominant figurative language in Poetry Tigress is metaphor. Figurative language in poetry gives sense and beauty to the poem. It helps people to expression, description of something, to make easy people to reference of something, to give inspiration and motivation.  Keywords: Figurative Language, Poetry, Poetry Tigress

Abstract

This article is about Phrasal Verb found in Coldplay’s Song Album A Head Full of Dream and its contribution to vocabulary learning. The researchers utilized a descriptive qualitative method as the data is not numerical but instead taken from the lyrics of the songs in the form of words and phrases. The object of the research is phrasal verbs in Coldplay’s Song Album A Head Full of Dream. There are eleven songs on the album: A Head Full of Dreams, Birds, Hymn of the Weekend, Everglow, Adventure of a lifetime, Fun, The Scientist, Army of One, Amazing Day, Yellow, and Up & Up. There are fifty-six phrasal verbs found in the album that are divided into three types; transitive separable, transitive inseparable, and intransitive inseparable. It is possible that Coldplay’s album A Head Full of Dreams is a useful material to improve vocabulary building on phrasal verb since there are numerous phrasal verbs. This can provide students with much-needed exposure to challenging aspects of the English language, such as phrasal verbs. This is especially true in the English as a Foreign Language context, where the majority of learners' exposure is limited to the teaching. The use of songs from Coldplay's album is also emerging as an innovative method of teaching phrasal verbs. It is also a significant development in terms of how to teach phrasal verbs
