Abstract

This study was undertaken to determine the influence of peer editing on SMA Negeri 2 Kupang students' writing in argumentative and descriptive, as well as the components of writing that were altered, the impact on the students' writing scores and also the comparison impact of this peer editing based on students’ gender. To support the findings, this study is classified as dominating descriptive qualitative and blended with descriptive quantitative methods. However, the use of qualitative here is just to support the finding by expressing the influence of peer editing on students' writing through scoring. The findings of this study reveal that peer editing has both beneficial and negative effects on students' argumentative writing. The dominant impact found in this students’ writing is positive impact because there is only one negative impact has been determined. As the conclusion, this peer editing has some positive impacts to the component of writing such as, component of grammar, content, vocabulary, organization and mechanic. Second, the most positive impact of applying peer editing in argumentative writing is on the component of grammar. Third, the most component of writing that have been edited by the peers is grammar. Fourth, from the score of writing have been calculated, it is known that students’ writing score after editing session is more increase. Fifth, the result shows that most of editing have done in the argumentative writing is focus on grammatical component, and vocabulary, because from 59 from 74 editing is applied on grammatical component. The last, the comparison impact between male and female students writing is dominantly conducted on female students writing result and  score.

Abstract

This study refers to the low interest of students in writing narrative essays, students prefer to work on the questions in the Student Worksheet (LKS) compared to writing assignments, learning to write essays, especially teacher narrative essays only explain the material and assign students to write essays freely without guidance from the teacher, in writing narrative essays students struggle to arrange essays chronologically. In fact, writing learning itself has been applied in schools, especially in Class X2 students of SMA Negeri 9 Kupang City, but there are still many students who do not understand how to write essays, especially writing narrative essays. Based on that the solution applied is the researchers chose to use the Mind Mapping model which aims to explore information from both inside and outside the brain in order to obtain new ideas, new concepts according to students' understanding and prove the effectiveness of learning to write narrative essays. This research uses Pre Experimental in the form of Pretest-Posttest Design. The research data were obtained from observations, questionnaires, test results and field notes. The results showed that in the pretest, the average value of students was 51.73 or less categorized. The scores on the pretest have not yet reached the KKM that has been set. While the posttest increased by 29.63 or 57.27% to 81.36 and was in the good category. The expected benefit of this research is the development of educational theory theory, specifically the problem of the effectiveness of mind-mapping technique to develop students' writing potential, can improve and provide a more varied choice of learning techniques in the learning process and can create a fun learning activity, to improve skills student writing.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the form, function, meaning and value contained in the speech RTU in the community of Pana Village, Kolbano District, South Timor Regency. The methods and techniques for taking data used in this research are observation (involved observer), interview, recording, note-taking, and documentation. The data will be analyzed qualitatively based on cultural linguistics approach. It’s because the cultural meanings and values that contained in the RTU speech can be applied as an effort to preserve culture. Thus, the efforts of preserving the language and culture of Pana Village community can be brought up. The result in these research and discussion showing that the form of the RTU speech consists of: introduction, contents and the closing section. The functions in this RTU speech for the Pana Village community at Kolbano District, the Region of Central South Timot, are as follows: (1) Magical functions; (2) Religious functions; and (3) expressive functions. Based on those functions, the meaning contained in the RTU speech is (1) religious meaning; (2) Economic meaning; and (3) Sociological meanings. The values stated in the RTU speech are (1) Religious values; (2) Economic value; (3) Social value.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out (1) The use of media in learning history that has been taking place in the XI class of Sudirman Kupang Senior High School so far; (2) historical awareness of class XI Sudirman Kupang high school students; (3) Development of historical learning media based on the Japanese Cave Visualization in Kupang to increase historical awareness of class XI students at Sudirman Kupang High School; and (4) Effectiveness of the application of the Japanese Cave Visualization Media in Kupang in history learning in class XI of Sudirman Kupang High School. This research was conducted at Sudirman Kupang High School. This research is a research or development called research and development (R & D). The results showed that (1) the use of media in history learning that took place so far in class XI of Sudirman Kupang high school was still said to be minimal; (2) after learning in the classroom using the Kupang Japan cave visualization media, class XI students at Sudirman Kupang High School felt it was important to visit the Kupang Japan cave site; (3 development of historical learning media based on visualization of Japanese caves in Kupang was carried out through several stages including (a) the stage of material selection ie the researcher chooses the subject used in the development activity; c) producing a learning video, at this stage, the researcher utilizes Adobe photo shop CC 2015 software, Vegas pro 13, Adobe After Affact and Adobe Audition, (d) product validation.After validating the expert both material and media, the resulting product is declared (4) learning media based on Kupang Japan cave visualization is very effective in increasing the historical awareness of class XI students of Sudirman Kupang High School.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe and explain the values ​​contained in the legend of Oe Honis in the Babuin Village community, TTS Regency. The problem proposed in this research is: “what kinds of values which ​​are contained in the Oe Honis Legend in the community of Babuin Village, Middle Amanuban District, South Central Timor Regency?” The benefits of this research are as follows: (1) to increase knowledge and broaden the horizon about Oe Honis legend; and (2) as one of the references for the government of South Central Timor Regency in compiling and developing the local content material (Muatan Lokal) for the elementary and secondary schools. The theory used in this research is Anthropology of Literature which is a literary work that emphasizes the cultural heritage of the past. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research method. The results of this research indicated that the Legend of Oe Honis is formed by two words namely Oe which means 'water' and Honis which means 'life'. So, Oe Honis means the water of life. The term Oe (water) for the people of Babuin Village, TTS Regency is one of the important elements on earth that is needed very much for human life and other types of living creatures. Therefore, for the people of Babuin Village, South Central Timor Regency, Oe Honis is a source of life for human life. Or in other words, where there is Oe (water) there is life. The values ​​contained in the Oe Honis legend, such as: (1) A historical Value as evidence of the legacy that is still preserved to this day like a cattle footprint being digged and found water namely Oe Honis; (2) Religious Value as a Prayer before digging and using the water; (3) Values of life as the attitudes and efforts to utilize the nature; and (4) The values of togetherness as a relationship in the community, such as building the Sonaf (king palace) and mutual cooperation to find water for the need of Babuin community.

Abstract

Hasil belajar siswa mulai menurun di masa pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan pola asuh orang tua dengan tingkat kedisiplinan siswa SMP Negeri 15 Kota Kupang pada masa Pandemi Covid 19. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan korelasi. Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 60 orang siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : (1) Pola asuh  orang  tua siswa SMP Negeri 15 Kota Kupang dengan nilai  rata-rata  sebesar 83, 98 termasuk kedalam kategori cukup baik yaitu berada pada interval 81-85; (2) Tingkat kedisiplinan siswa SMP Negeri 15 Kota Kupang dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 82,11 dikategorikan cukup baik yaitu berada pada interval 78-83; (3) Hasil analisis hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa nilairxy = 0,526 berada pada arah  yang positif. Hubungan pola asuh orang  tua dengan tingkat kedisiplinan siswa SMP Negeri 15 Kota Kupang termasuk dalam kategori cukupkuat dengan interval 0,40-0,599; (4) Data penelitian dan hasil  juga menunjukkan bahwa thitung = 0,526 , sedangkan ttabel pada taraf signifikansi 5% = 1,671 dan t tabel pada taraf signifikan 1% = 2,390. Ini berarti bahwa thitung lebih besar dari ttabel. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara pola asuh orang tua dengan tingkat kedisiplinan siswa kelas SMP Negeri 15 Kota Kupang. _____________________________________________________________Student’s learning outcomes began to decline during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting patterns and the level of discipline of students at SMP Negeri 15 Kupang City during the Covid 19 Pandemic. This study applies a correlation approach. The number of samples in this study are 60 students. The results showed that: (1) The parenting pattern of the students of SMP Negeri 15 Kupang City with an average score of 83, 98 was included in the fairly good category, which was in the 81-85 interval; (2) The level of discipline of students of SMP Negeri 15 Kupang City with an average score of 82.11 is categorized as quite good, which is in the 78-83 interval; (3) The results of the hypothesis analysis show that the value of rxy = 0.526 is in a positive direction. The relationship between parenting patterns and the level of discipline of students at SMP Negeri 15 Kupang City is included in the fairly strong category with an interval of 0.40-0.599; (4) The research data and results also show that tcount = 0,526, while ttable at a significance level of 5% = 1,671 and t table at a significant level of 1% = 2,390. This means that tcount is greater than ttable. So it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between parenting patterns and the level of discipline of students of  SMP Negeri 15 Kupang City. Keywords: Pattern; parrenting; Discipline; Pandemic; Covid

Abstract

Speech Value in The Stage of Marriage Custom of The Suelain Village Community, Lobalain Districts Rote Ndao Regency ABSTRAKPerkawinan merupakan suatu ikatan sosial/perjanjian hukum, baik secara adat maupun Agama bagi seorang laki-laki dan seorang perempuan untuk hidup berumah tangga. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memaparkan dan mendeskripsikan nilai budaya yang tergurat dalam tuturan adat perkawinan masyarakat Desa Suelain Kecamatan Lobalain Kabupaten Rote-Ndao. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Linguistik Antropologi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah  metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah Tokoh-tokoh adat masyarakat Suelain Kecamatan Lobalain Kabupaten Rote Ndao. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik (1) observasi; (2) wawancara; (3) perekaman dan pencatatan. Sementara pengolahan datanya dilakukan melalui (a) pengaksaran, (b) terjemahan, (c) analisis, dan (d) simpulan. Hasil penelitian dan pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa perkawinan adat masyarakat Desa Suelain Kecamatan Lobalain Kabupaten Rote-Ndao terdiri atas 7 tahap yaitu : (1) Tahap peminangan disebut Hengga Mbotik; (2) Tahap perundingan belis; (3) Tahap pengumpulan belis (Tu’u belis); (4) Tahap penyerahan belis; (5) Tahap terang kampung disebut Nggani Eik’; (6)Tahap pengukuhan adat disebut Natudu sasao; dan (7) Tahap pengantaran mempelai perempuan diantara ke rumah mempelai laki-laki disebut Dode. Dari ketujuh tahap tuturan adat perkawinan ini, memiliki (1) Nilai Religius; (2)  Nilai kebersamaan; dan (3) Nilai Etika.Kata kunci: Masyarakat, Perkawinan, Tuturan,  Nilai ABSTRACTMarriage is a social bond/legal agreement, both according to custom and religion for a man and a woman to live as a household. The purpose of this research is to explain and describe the cultural values that are inscribed in the custom marriage speech of the people of Suelain Village, Lobalain District, Rote-Ndao Regency. This study uses the theory of Anthropological Linguistics. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The data sources in this study were from traditional leaders of the Suelain community, Lobalain District, Rote Ndao Regency. Collecting data in this study used techniques (1) Observation; (2) Interview; (3) Recording and recording. While processing the data is done through (a) Recognizing, (b) Translation, (c) Analysis, and (d) Conclusion. The results of the research and discussion show that the custom marriage of the people of Suelain Village, Lobalain District, Rote-Ndao Regency consists of 7 stages, namely: (1) The proposal stage is called Hengga Mbotik; (2) Purchase negotiation stage; (3) Belis collection stage (Tu'u belis); (4) Purchase submission stage; (5) The bright stage of the village is called Nggani Eik'; (6) The customary confirmation stage is called Natudu sasao; and (7) The stage of delivering the bride to the groom's house is called Dode. Of the seven stages of traditional marriage speech, it has (1) religious values; (2) Togetherness values; and (3) Ethical Values. Keyword: Society, Marriage, Speech Values

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the meaning contained in the Keu Laka Customary Ritual Speech in Serubeba Village, East Rote District, Rote Ndao District, to describe the functions in the Keu Laka Customary Ritual Speech in Serubeba Village, East Rote District, Rote Ndao District. The approach in this study uses a cultural linguistic theory approach. Data collection techniques using interview and observation techniques. The data analysis technique uses a qualitative descriptive technique. The results of the study found various linguistic meanings, including: the meaning of supplication, the meaning of adoration, and linguistic functions, including: expressive function, conative function.
