Abstract

This paper addresses decomposition of the tasks of Software-Defined Radio (SDR) computation by taking Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) as a case study. The aim of this research was to produce a task graph of the SDR that was needed in scheduling of distributed computing with task parallelism using genetics algorithm. Based on the tasks decomposition and the evaluation of execution time of each task, we obtained a task graph of SDR computation. We conclude that there are eleven tasks for the modulator and fifteen for the demodulator.

Abstract

This paper addresses Differential Binary Phase Shift Keying (DBPSK) modulation implemented on SDR platform for the development of digital data communications based on SDR. DBPSK modulation performance perceived at Packet Error Rate (PER) is evaluated in terms of Eb/No or S/N ratio, carrier frequency, bit rate, gain, roll-off factor of root Nyquist filter or root raised cosine filter, and of size of payload from delivered data. Based on this results, the smallest PER could be obtained by setting Eb/No value which is greater than 13 dB, carrier frequency of at least 0,3 MHz, optimum bit rate of 256 kbps, optimum range payload size of 2000 up to 4000 bytes, and roll-off factor of Nyquist or root-raised cosine filter of 0.1<alfa<0.9.

Abstract

An increase of the number of vehicles which is not followed by the number of roads can lead to the increase of congestion, especially in big cities. Regulation of law no 22 Year 2009 explains that there are seven types of vehicles prioritized on the road. This research aims to build a Smart Traffic Light as a solution with the goal of making the prioritized vehicle journey smooth when crossing the road with Smart Traffic Light. The proposed system is "Smart Traffic Light on IoT and mBaaS (Mobile Backend As a Service) using High Priority Vehicles Method". The Smart Traffic Light has three important parts, including: (1) Smart Traffic Application; (2) Smart Traffic Controller; and (3) mBaaS. Prioritized vehicle drivers cross the road using the Smart Traffic Application when they are in an emergency situation. Smart Traffic Application and Smart Traffic Controller communicate using mBaaS. Smart Traffic Application has a vehicle track search facility as well as identification of traffic light location. A few meters before crossing, Smart Traffic Application will send the location to mBaaS and continue to be read by Smart Traffic Controller using internet. If it meets the criteria of High Priority Vehicle, then Traffic Light will be changed to green in the same path. The results show that when testing the data rate from Smart Traffic Application to Smart Traffic Controller, it takes no later than 8.15 seconds and 1.2 seconds (the fastest) with the average data transmission time of 3.39 seconds. Smart Traffic Light is able to identify the direction of the vehicle before passing through the Smart Traffic Application.

Abstract

This research has purpose to know the difference between student learning result with computer network practice course and higher order thinking skill (HOTS) given by demonstration method with problem based learning (PBL) method. This research is a research using quasi experiment consisting of two classes as sample. The one class uses the demonstration learning method, while the other class uses the PBL method. This study has an analysis using t-test. the result of this research is able to show there is difference between student learning outcomes with high thinking ability in computer network practice class among students given demonstration method with students given PBL method. Students who were given demonstration learning methods resulted less than students who had been provided with PBL methods in order to improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

This paper addresses performance measurement of Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK) modulation which is implemented on Software-Defined Radio (SDR) platform using Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP) from GNU Radio. GMSK modulation is very popular and is adopted as GSM cellular phone modulation standard.  The results of this research can be used as basic concept in developing wireless communication system based on SDR technology which is needed in Next-Generation Networks (NGN). The GMSK performance is measured in terms of Packet Error Rate (PER) with several of Eb/No, bit rate, modulation frequency, payload size, and gain values. Based on this research, the lowest PER can be achieved by setting Eb/No value equal to 20 dB, optimum bit rate = 256 kbps, BT 0.25, optimum payload size = 4092 bytes, and optimum gain equal to 100.

Abstract

Technology enhancement in any life aspects is undeniably crucial to face the globalization era. A strategic approach to touch any life aspect is gained through education. Supporting this educational long-term goal, this study aims to: (1) produce learning media in the form of a virtual-learning simulation software, which is capable of operation on mobile devices to facilitate mobile, portable, effective, economical, and operationally-safe learning; (2) test the developed software quality in terms of the functional aspects of suitability, maintainability, portability, and usability (ISO/IEC 25010). The subjects of this Research and Development (RD) study were class XI students of Mechatronics Engineering at SMTI Yogyakarta. The process of designing and testing software uses the V-model type Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Unit testing was done through the white-box technique with the base-path test, flowgraph, and independent path. The testing for integration, system, and acceptance used Black-box techniques. The study shows that: (1) V-models were used to design the "DigiChip" virtual simulation software to support virtual learning and mobile learning through the software development stage; (2) The software quality testing based on ISO/IEC 25010 shows that in the functional aspects suitability, all features function properly (very decent), its maintainability is of MI 84 (easy maintenance), it gains 100% portability, or can be operated on all Android OS kernels (very feasible), and its usability is 86.18% (very feasible) with Cronbach's Alpha 0.841 (good). Ninety percent of media experts and 100% of material experts consider that the developed software is very feasible.
