Abstract

ABSTRACT Agricultural development growns toward modern agriculture along with the development in science and technology in the field of agricultural technology and management, supported by fast development of communication technology. In current agricultural communities, information has become a significant part of their farming activities, because information actually plays a crucial role in improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the farming process, supporting decision-making process, and triggering innovation. The objectives of this study were (1) to describe vegetable farmers’ exposure to sources of information; (2) to analyze the relationship between the characteristics of farmers and exposure to information sources; and (3) to learn the relationship between exposure to information sources and the utilization of information. The study was designed as a descriptive-correlational survey research and it was conducted in Tugu Selatan village, Cisarua subdistrict, Bogor regency. The data was collected by means of simple random sampling and the data analysis used Spearman rank. The research result  showed that the farmers got the most varied materials from extension officers and farmer groups. Meanwhile, the highest use of information was enlightening. There was a significant correlation between variables of age, experience, land area, and types of vegetables and several other variables such as exposure to information sources. Some variables of exposure to information sources were significantly correlated with the use of information. Keywords: exposure to information sources, information utilization, vegetable farmers

Abstract

(The Influences of Shot Duration and Narration Tempo toward Information Absorption of Crystal Guava (Psidium guajava L.))ABSTRACTThis research was conducted to analyze the influences of shot duration and narration tempo toward information absorption. Shot duration in this research is referred to the length (on seconds) of each shots on video after editing, so that the audience interested to watch and understand what is the video tell us about. This experimental research was conducted on 60 posdaya members which were randomly selected and divided into four treatment groups. Data was analyzed using Two-way analysis of varians. The result shows that shot duration has a significant influence on the absorption of information, while there is no significant differrence has been shown by narration tempo. Meanwhile, the combination of shot duration and narration tempo which has most influence on information absorption is fast shot duration with a slow narrative tempo, according to the average posttest score of four treatment groups. Key words: Information Absorption, Narration Tempo,  Shot Duration.  ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh durasi shot dan tempo narasi terhadap penyerapan informasi. Durasi Shot yang dimaksud dalam penelitian ini adalah berapa detik durasi setiap gambar (shot) dalam video setelah melalui proses pemotongan (cut dalam editing), agar penonton tertarik untuk menikmati tayangan tersebut serta memahami isi ceritanya. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menganalisis pengaruh durasi shot dan tempo narasi terhadap penyerapan informasi anggota Posdaya Cisadane Kecamatan Cigombong Kabupaten Bogor. Penelitian Eksperimen ini dilakukan pada 60 anggota posdaya yang dipilih secara random dan dibagi menjadi empat kelompok perlakuan. Data dianalisa menggunakan analisis sidik ragam dua arah (Two-way ANOVA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa durasi shot memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap penyerapan informasi, sedangkan tempo narasi belum terbukti memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap penyerapan informasi. Sementara itu, kombinasi antara durasi shot dan tempo narasi yang paling berpengaruh terhadap penyerapan informasi  adalah durasi shot cepat dengan tempo narasi lambat, dilihat melalui rataan hasil skor pos tes empat kelompok perlakuan.Kata kunci : Durasi Shot, Penyerapan Informasi, Tempo Narasi.

Abstract

Harding and Hills’s standpoint theory said that human perspectives are shaped by their social and political experiences. Gender is a social construction that acquired through interaction and changes over times. Based on that theory, this study used to analyze are the rapid increased of woman labour, gender equitymovement in economic development, may affect the the traditional view about how women and men should act and communicate, and established the new meaning of masculinity and feminity in workplace area. The conclusion showed that gender inequity still exist toward women. Women’s job position and the level of gender communication based on dimensional stereotype, discrimination, subordination, and sexual harassment are worse than men, but yet women showed no complains and reported the same level of job satisfaction compared men.Keywords: gender, communication, job satisfaction

Abstract

Effective and efficient marketing is a key in increasing farmers income. Interaction between farmers would involve the sharing of information about marketing and creating a communication network among cocoa farmers. Communication networks should be developed in cocoa marketing because it can provide information to farmers about the price and quality that consumers needs and more profitable marketing purposes. The measure of this study used analysis of communication networks which is ‘centrality’. Centrality refers to the position of actors (nodes) in the overall network and see how centrals actors in the network. Centrality measurements used in this study are degree centrality, closeness centrality, and betweeness centrality. The purposes of this study were 1) to describe the individual characteristics of farmers, media exposure by farmers, and communication network 2) to analyze the correlation between farmers  characteristic and communication network analysis and 3) to analyze the correlation between media exposure and communication network analysis. The result of this study showed that 1) the variable of farmer characteristics such as age was relatively adult, formal education was relatively low, the area of land cultivated was relatively moderate, farming experience was relatively high, and group experiences is relatively high on Tunas Harapan group and moderate on Bunga Harapan group. The variable of media exposure such as media ownership, frequency, and duration of media use was relatively low. The central actor on Tunas Harapan group was the group leader while the central actor on Bunga Harapan group was the group member. 2)Farmer characteristic correlated with degree centrality was formal education and farmer characteristics correlated with closeness centrality were the area of land cultivated and experience of the group. 3) Media exposures correlated with degree centrality were media ownership, the frequency of media use and the duration of media use then media exposure of farmer correlated with betweeness centrality were the frequency of media use and duration of media use.

Abstract

Tourism is one of sector that is much interested by the world community, this demand has increased every year. Garut is one of the districts in West Java which is interested by tourists. Promotion in marketing the tourism product is very important for the development of communities and regions. The promotion can use media of video through social media to provide an illustration and a knowledge of tourism, and convince these young travelers to visit the tourist attractions that is offered. The purpose of this study were 1) to test the effect of visual presentation and style of language through video to increase student knowledge, 2) to analyze the message combination of the most effective on the media video about tourism in Garut. This research used true experimental methods with 2 x 2 factorial design and use pretest posttest control group design. Factors is used in the visual presentation consists of photos and infographics, and the language style consists of formal and conversational. Subjects were 75 students of the Bogor Agricultural Institute. The results showed that the visual presentation and language style through videos significant effect on the improvement of knowledge, the whole combination treatment was not significantly different to the increase of knowledge. Abstract

The objectives of this research were to identify gender relation, communication channels and the use of agricultural information, to analyze the correlation between gender relation and communication channels, the correlation between communication channels and the use of agricultural information. The research was conducted in the Sub-District of Pacet, District of Cianjur and Sub-District of Megamendung, District of Bogor in the West Java Province.  The research used a method of survey taking 134 samples of organic vegetable farmers consisting of 67 men and 67 women.  The quantitative data was obtained from the questionnaires given to the farmers and supported by qualitative data collected by in-depth interviews.  The research results indicate that men often used personal communication, but women seldom choose the personal channel.  Both men and women seldom used the mass media channel.  Both men and women often use agricultural information for themselves for practice and comparison but seldom for discussion with others.  Men and women were both active in information seeking and discussing the received information, but in the control of agricultural information men were more dominant than women.  Among women, the group had a significant relationship with information control, whereas among men the mass media had a significant correlation with information control.  The agricultural information from a personal channel was used by men for themselves for the purpose of practice, comparison, discussion, or diffusion.  However, among women, the agricultural information was used for comparison, discussion, and diffusion. The group channel omong men was used to diffuse agricultural information whereas among woman it was for comparison, discussion and diffusion.  The agricultural information from the mass media was used by men for their own knowledge, comparison and diffusion.  Women liked to discuss agricultural information with husbands and families.     Key words: communication channels, access, control of agricultural information, gender

Abstract

Perkembangan peternakan di Indonesia secara umum masih memprihatinkan. Sebagian besar produksi daging sapi di Indonesia hampir seluruhnya diperoleh dari peternakan rakyat (78%), sisanya dari impor. Pola pemeliharaan ternak di Indonesia didominasi oleh usaha peternakan berskala kecil, dengan rata-rata kepemilikan ternak rendah, ternak dijadikan sebagai tabungan hidup, ternak dipelihara dalam pemukiman padat penduduk, usaha ternak dilakukan secara turun temurun. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah 1) Mendeskripsikan karakteristik, gaya kepemimpinan, perilaku komunikasi, dan kapasitas kelembagaan GPPT. 2) Menganalisis hubungan antara gaya kepemimpinan dengan kapasitas kelembagaan SPR. 3) Menganalisis hubungan antara perilaku komunikasi dengan kapasitas kelembagaan SPR. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif. Data dianalisis menggunakan rank Spearman. Penelitian ini memperoleh beberapa hasil seperti: terdapat hubungan negatif antara gaya kepemimpinan autokrasi dengan kapasitas kelembagaan, terdapat hubungan yang negatif antara media massa dengan kapasitas kelembagaan. Kata Kunci: Perilaku komunikasi, Kapasitas kelembagaan, Gaya kepemimpinan

Abstract

(The Effect of Visualisation and Caption Content in the Booklet of Liquid Organic Fertilizer Making toward The Improvement of Knowledge for Students in Bogor City) ABSTRAK  Pendidikan lingkungan hidup diharapkan mampu mendorong pengetahuan dan kesadaran warga sekolah dalam upaya pelestarian lingkungan hidup karena warga sekolah ikut terlibat dalam kegiatan sekolah menuju lingkungan yang sehat serta menghindari dampak lingkungan yang negatif. Shobeiri et al. (2013) menyatakan bahwa pendidikan lingkungan yang difokuskan pada siswa sekolah merupakan strategi jitu untuk melakukan intervensi pada tahap perkembangan dari kehidupan generasi muda untuk menjaga keberlanjutan kehidupan. Tujuan penelitian ini  adalah agar siswa berperan aktif di lingkungan sekitarnya dalam  mengurangi tumpukan sampah sisa makanan dari rumah tangga yang mencapai 68% dari tumpukan sampah di tempat pembuangan akhir/TPA (Pemkot Bogor 2012). Melalui media buklet berisi kombinasi perlakuan antara foto digital dan isi caption diharapkan mampu menyampaikan pesan tentang proses pembuatan pupuk organik cair . Isi caption yang menggunakan himbauan rasional dan himbauan emosional diharapkan mampu memberikan kesan yang mendalam bagi siswa dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa tentang pengelolaan sampah organik di rumah.  Kata kunci : pendidikan lingkungan hidup, visualisasi foto digital, isi caption, himbauan  emosional, himbauan rasional  ABSTRACT  Environmental educationis expected to encourage knowledge and awareness of the school community in the environmental preservation efforts due to their involvement in the school activities toward a healthy environment and avoiding negative environmental impacts. Shobeirietal. (2013) stated that environmental education focused on students is a proven strategy to intervene whom in youth to be aware of environmental sustainability. The purposeof this study wa sto have students play an active rolein reducing heap of house hold waste in their surrounding environment which reach 68% piles of the waste in land fills (Bogor City Government, 2012). A medium of booklet containing combination of treatments between digital photo and caption of contents was expected to deliver a message about the process of making liquid organic fertilizer. Captions of contents using rational and emotional appeals were expected to provide a deeper impression for students so that the students' knowledge on the management of household organic waste would increase. Abstract

In case of oil and natural gas production, a restricted zone within 500-meter-wide around offshore platform was established. The restricted zone was established to protect all activities in the sea, including fishing. Socialization on law, safety, and security, and the existence of oil and gas operational facility platform has been held. Yet, it hasn’t stopped the fishers’ effort to do fishing in the restricted zone. Therefore, this study tries to analyze communication model in the socialization and components that affect communication as well as correlation among the factors that influence the effectiveness of communication and fishers' obedience toward prohibition of entering the restricted zone. The study was conducted in one of the coastal villages in Karawang Regency, West Java. Data were collected by using questionnaire, which was supported by conducting qualitative method. The data, which were analyzed by rank Spearman Correlation Test. Results showed that communication model on socialization is not a convergent model but a linear and interactional model. There was a difference between a facilitator of socialization and fishing communities in terms of education level, social class, and language that becomes an obstacle for fishers to communicate. The message materials have not been complete yet, and there is no emotional and fear approachesin the message content of socialization. The use of radio as a communication channel has been ineffective because most fishers do not have a radio. Experience as fishers is significantly related to the fishers’ obedience and their view is very significant to their obedience. Meanwhile, the age, educational level, use of fishing tools, attendance at faceto-face socialization, exposure on advertising spots in radio and posters at Fish Auction Site (TPI), and the frequency of communication among the fishers are not significantly related to fishers’ obedience toward the prohibition of entering the restricted zone.Keywords: socialization, restricted zone, and fishers’ obedience

Abstract
