Abstract

AbstractThe main objective of this study is to overcome the problems found in teaching Integrated Skills using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). These problems include: Content, Teaching Methods, and the passivity of the students in the class. Research conducted using action research. The population of this research is a high school student Bina Warga 2 Palembang academic year 2008/2009. There are 16 classes, but this study only takes this because researcher has only been teaching two classes. While other classes taught by other teachers. The main source of this research is supported  by researchers and teachers who made observations when done in teams. This study not only observed but also questionnaires and interviews to determine students progress in line with the problems. In the first period, the first issue (material) and the second issue (teaching methods) are almost resolved properly. Almost all students said that they felt happy and get the ease of  learning to use materials related to their lives and experiences, as well as related from one skill to the second period is another problem. At the first and second can be addressed properly because all the students said that they feel happy and get the ease of learning to use material  relating from one skill to another. In the third period students have easy and are happy with the material that relates to their lives and experiences and integrate the skills learned. For the problem of students’ passivity, it is solely due to the personal problems of students.Keywords : Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), Integrated English Skills, Learning

Abstract

ABSTRAK            Kajian tentang permasalahan bahasa dan sastra yang menjembatani kearifan lokal dalam era globalisasi sangat relevan diwacanakan. Kenyataan ini seiring dengan berbagai perubahan yang terjadi dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat, berbangsa, dan bernegara pasca reformasi seiring timbulnya tuntutan yang berlebihan hampir dalam segala aspek kehidupan.Bangsa Indonesia harus menyadari bahwa pengaruh ekonomi yang dimunculkan oleh pasar bebas juga berdampak terhadap bahasa dan sastra Indonesia, bahkan dalam pembelajaran bahasa dan sastra. Tuntutan yang demikian sering memicu permasalahan krusial, sehingga dapat mengancam keutuhan dalam hidup bermasyarakat, berbangsa, dan bernegara. Kearifan lokal merupakan elemen budaya yang harus digali, dikaji, dan direvitalisasikan karena esensinya begitu penting dalam penguatan fondasi jatidiri bangsa dalam menghadapi tantangan globalisasi. Pertanyaan yang muncul adalah apakah nilai-nilai budaya lokal sebagai perekat identitas bangsa masih relevan untuk direvitalisasi dalam menghadapi berbagai permasalahan di era globalisasi ini. Kata kunci: Bahasa dan Sastra, Kearifan Lokal

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini berjudul “The Application of KWL Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension to the Eight Grade Students of Bina Warga Junior High School of Palembang.”  Permasalahan penelitian ini berhubungan dengan kesulitan siswa dalam menemukan ide utama dalam menjawab pertanyaan secara tepat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan apakah Strategy KWL efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan siswa kelas 8 di SMP Bina Warga Palembang.Metode penelitian  ini menggunakan metode pre-experimen. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 40 orang siswa kelas 8 di SMP Bina Warga Palembang . Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes tertulis, dan dianalisa menggunakan rumus uji t.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa pada tes awal yaitu 50.62, dan nilai rata-rata pada tes akhir yaitu 81,25, sedangkan hasil perhitunganUji t menunjukkan bahwa nilainya yaitu 11.96, yang lebih besar dari pada nilai kritis yaitu 1.684. Hal ini dapat dinyatakan bahwa penggunaan strategy KWL dinilai efektif dalam mengajarkan membaca bagi siswa kelas 8 di SMP Bina Warga Palembang. Kata Kunci: Penerapan, Strategy KWL, Pemahaman Bacaan

Abstract

Abstract             The objective of this study was to know whether or not the application of comic strip could increase speaking skill for the tenth graders of SMA N 22 Palembang. In this study, the writer used weak experimental method. The population of this  study consisted of 153 students of SMA N 22 Palembang. The writer chose one class as the sample of the study. The sample was selected by using convenience sampling method. There were 34 students as the samples of this study. The data were collected by using written test.            The result showed, in the pretest, the highest score was 8, while the lowest was 5 with the mean scores was 7.35. However, in the posttest, the highest score was 12, while the lowest score was 6 with the mean scores 8.35. It could be interpreted that comic strip was mostly effective to be used in increasing speaking skill for the tenth graders of SMA N 22Palembang. Thus, the research hypothesis stated ” It is effective teaching writing a descriptive paragraph by using mind mapping” was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected. Keywords: Application, Comic Strip, Speaking Skill

Abstract

Abstract—The study of language and literature problems that bridge local wisdom in the era of globalization is very relevant in discourse. This reality is in line with the changes that occur in the life of society, nation and state post-reformation as the emergence of excessive demands in almost all aspects of life. Indonesian nation must realize that the economic influence generated by the free market also affects Indonesian language and literature, even in language and literature learning. Such demands often trigger crucial problems, which can threaten wholeness in the life of society, nation, and state. Local wisdom was a cultural element that must be explored, studied, and revitalized because its essence is so important in strengthening the foundations of the nation's identity in facing the challenges of globalization. Abstract

The objective of this research were (1) To find out the improvement of learning achievement in basic competency of describing living environment conservation in relation to sustainable development using STAD learning method. (2)To find out the improvement of the students? geography learning achievement in the basic competency of describing living environment conservation in relation to sustainable development using STAD learning method. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in two sicluss. Each siclus consisted of determining the problem focus, planning, acting, monitoring, analyzing and reflecting. The subject of research was the XI IPS 2 Graders of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta, consisting of 30 students. The data source derived from learning process in the classroom, result of evaluation test in siclus I, result of evaluation test in second siclus, geography learning motivation questionnaire of siclus I, geography learning motivation questionnaire of second siclus, and secondary data. Technique of collecting data employed were observation, document study, geography learning achievement test, and geography learning motivation questionnaire. The procedure of research used was self-reflection spiral model. The result of research showed: (1) the learning using Student Teams Achievement Divisions method could improve the geography learning motivation in the basic competency of describing living environment conservation in relation to sustainable development in second siclus. (2) The learning using Student Teams Achievement Divisions could improve the geography learning achievement in the basic competency of describing living environment conservation in relation to sustainable development in second siclus. Abstract

Speaking Skill is essential in communication as a foreign language, either in educational qualification or in career achievement. The students have intermediate speaking skill potential to gain further education and to find employment. The problem of this research deals with the fact that most of students are lack of speaking skill. First, particularly the eleventh grade students of Senior High School 3 of Palembang are not motivated to learn and increase their speaking skills. Second, consequently the students are not able to act as interlocutors when the communication occurred. The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there is a significant difference of speaking scores of the eleventh grade students taught through Role play with Video blogs (Vlog) from those of the ones taught through a conventional technique at Senior High School 3 of Palembang. This research was True Experimental design (Quantitative). The research was conducted from July to August 2020 by online. The subject of the research was 36 students of the eleventh grade of Senior High School 3 of Palembang. The technique of collecting data used a monologue test. The monologue test was done to know whether there was a significant difference by using role-play with video blogs (vlog) in teaching speaking skill. The students’ average score of the experimental group in the posttest was 53.29 while the students’ average score in the control group was 46.04. Meanwhile the critical value was 0.05 significance level for two-tailed test with 35 (df) was 1.68 since the t-obtained was 11.352, it was higher than the t-table. The result of research showed that there was a significant difference of speaking scores of the eleventh grade students taught through Role-play with Video blog (Vlog) from those of ones taught a conventional technique at Senior High School 3 of Palembang. The use of role play with video blogs (vlog) not only made the students enjoy, fun and relax learning English but also indirectly made the students capable improvise their skill based on their mind.
