Abstract

Prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus among adult in Indonesia reached 4,1% in 1995 and projected to 6,5% in 2025. Complication of diabetes mellitus which come earlier and widely distributed yis atherosclerosis.Atherosklerosis can lead to other serious complications such as gangrene, stroke, cardiomiopathy, andcoronary artery diseases. This research was aimed to know the effect of Mahkota dewa (Phaleriamacrocarpha (Scheff.) Boerl.) boiled water to regeneration of aorta’s atherosclerosis post diabetic inductionwith alloxan. The research was conduct in four weeks to 25male albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) 3 monthaged, 120-180 grama weighed. The subjects was divided into five groups:positive control, negative control,A, B and C. A, B and C groups was treated Mahkota dewa boiled water with 4,5%, 9%, and 13,5%concentration respectively. The drug was administered orally. III, IV, and V groups are injected by alloxan toinduce diabetes. Atherosclerosis frequency was counted from histological section stained with Haematoxylineosin.Statistical analysis using Chi square analysis showed that Mahkota Dewa boiled water significantlyreduced atherosclerosis frequency in aorta. It can be concluded that Mahkota dewa (P.macrocarpha(Scheff.) Boerl.) regenerates atherosclerosis injury in diabetic blood vessel.

Abstract

Aquaculture can be improved by a diversified approach in the form of domestication research of a wild fish. The research has been done by cultivating Javaen Barb/Brek (Puntius orphoides) from Serayu river, Banyumas at a natural pond and laboratory scale. Brek fish is relative slow in growth and development of gonad. This research is aimed to determine: (1) the rate of general growth of Brek in the provision of some kinds of additional food; (2) Relative Growth Rate (RGR); (3) Specific Growth Rate (SGR) and Feed Conversion (FC). The research used experimental methods. The method was a completely randomized design (CRD) of 4 treatments and 3 replicationsof: A = 100% pellet; B = 70% soybean sprout and 30% pellet; C = 70% Ipomoea aquatica leaf and 30% pellet; D = 35% soybean sprouts, 35% I. aquatica leaf and 30% pellet. Quantitative data were analysed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the fishes growth. The results show influence of feed types to the Relative Growth Rate (RGR) of Javaean Barb. The best RGR with the value of 72.40 was given by feed types in the D combination. Meanwhile, Specific Growth Rate (SGR) and Feed Conversion (FC) were not affected by the feed types. The study were expected to provide suggestions for efficient feeding techniques in attempts at domestication of wild fish. How to CiteSusatyo, P., Sugiharto, S., Hana, H., & Chasanah, T. (2016). Abstract

Kidney is very susceptible to damage by toxicological compounds such as carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). CCl4 produce free radicals, which cause lipid peroxidation and kidney damage and free radical release, which can be prevented by the administration of exogenous antioxidants, such as Chlorella vulgaris. The aim of study was to determine an effect of antioxidant of C. vulgaris on the histopathological features of Wistar rat  kidney which is induced by CCl4. Experimental study with completely randomized design. The variable was histopathology features of the kidneys. The doses of C. vulgaris extract were 3 mg, 4 mg, and 5 mg per 100 grams of rat body weight (BW). The administration of C. vulgaris extract was performed within 30 days, while the CCl4 induction (0.25 ml / 100 g BW) was administered orally on the day 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, and 26. Parameters were histopathology features of renal damage, proportion of tubular cell damage, and Bowmans space diameter. The results showed the administration of C. vulgaris extract was able to reduce the impact of damage caused by CCl4 (p<0.05). This was supported by histologic observations, which was showing a decrease of picnotic and vacuolated cells, normal brush border, and decrease of Bowmans space. In conclusion, 5 mg / 100 g BW of C. vulgaris extract can effectively protect the kidney from damage        caused  by        CCl4. The results of this study strongly support further research on immunostimulant content test C. vulgaris and determine the efficient dose for representative animals mammals also in humans.

Abstract

Functional change of agricultural lands into non-agricultural lands will obviously have an impact on the dimin-ished or loss of habitat of the rice field eels (Monopterus albus Zuieuw). The aim of this research was to un-derstand the difference between (1) reproduction parameters (fecundity, gonadal maturity level (GML), and gonadal maturity index (GMI); (2) histological features of female and male gonadal development (oogenesis and spermatogenesis); (3) range of body length in each sexual phase; and (4) range of body length in each GML stage of captured eel from 4 sub-districts of Banyumas regency, Central Java (Ajibarang, Sumpyuh, Banyumas, and Sumbang). The total number of captured subjects were 631 eels; which consisted of 155; 227; 157; and 92 eels from Ajibarang, Sumpyuh, Banyumas, and Sumbang, respectively. We observed oogenesis in the stages of GML-1 (chromatin nucleolar stages and perinucleolar stage); GML-II (cortical alveolar formation stage or globular yolk stage), GML-3 (late globular yolk stage), GML-IV (mature or ripe stage), and follicle atretic stage. Also, we observed male gonadogenesis and spermatogenesis in the intersex. The range of GMI of captured eels was between 0.023 and 0.686. Eel in GML-I, GML-2, GML-3, and GML-IV had GMI within the range of 0.023-0.096; 0.096-0.425; 0.427-0.686; and >0.686, respectively. Eels achieved stage of GML-IV in body length range of 22.6-34.5 cm in Sumpyuh, 22.6-38.5 cm in Ajibarang, and 26.6-34.5 cm in Banyumas. There was no eel with the status of GML-IV in Sumbang, which had the most residential or functionally changed lands in its area. Based on these findings, can be concluded that the condition of rice fields or habitat of eel in functionally changed lands may affect eel’s growth and gonad maturation.

Abstract

Antifeeding activity of soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata L.) and its effect on nutrition indices and the microscopic structure of peritrophic membrane of the fifth-instar larvae of Spodoptera litura F. were studied. Antifeeding test was conducted by choice method. Discs of caisin leaf were dipped into the ether fraction of soursop leaf extract with concentrations of 0; 0.63; 2.50; and 10.00%. Nutrition indices and peritrophic membrane structure were observed by giving fifth-instar larvae one of the five diets, every group of diet was added to various concentrations of the ether fraction of soursop leaf extract, containing either 0; 0.63; 1.25; 2.50; and 5.00%. The result showed that soursop leaf extract had antifeeding activity at tested concentration 2.50%. Relative consumption rate (RCR), relative growth rate (RGR), and efficiency of conversion of ingested food (ECI) were significantly lower in the case of treated larvae than that of the controls. However the efficiency of conversion of digested food (ECD), approximate digestibility (AD), and peritrophic membrane structure treated with soursop leaf extract were not significantly affected as compared to those in controls.

Abstract

Ricefield eel is one type of fish whose habitat is in paddy fields and the eel's body does not have scales. Ricefield eel has a high protein, so it is widely consumed and sold in local and international markets. Eel reproduction is a protogynous hermaphrodite thathas a replacement cycle from female sex to the male sex. This research was conducted in the laboratory of the Faculty of Biology, Jenderal Soedirman University, by taking samples of Ricefield Eel in Kalitinggar Village, Padamara District, Purbalingga Regency. The purpose of this study was to know the relationship between GSI with a certain eel body length, as well as the gonad histology picture of rice eels in each fishing month. The results of the study as many as 54 eel catches. Ricefield eel was caught in May, June, and August 2019. Eel body length ranges from 16-35 cm with a GSI value of 0.32 – 10.36 %. There is a correlation between eels' body length toward GSI with the value p < 0.01, which was tested using Pearson correlation in the SPSS application. Based on observations using a microscope, many of the eels produced females with a body length ranges of 19-32 cm.

Abstract

Rice eel (Monopterus albus Zuiew), have economical value is high in Banyumas, national to international markets, but rarely is grown intensively, the seed is still dependent on the catch. Reproduction of swamp eel unlike other fish species in the presence of phase teleostei  intersex / hermafroditus and in nature only spawn once a year. This study will seek to accelerate the scale seed production with natural canvas with several techniques triggers lust and sex organ maturation eels based preparedness aspects of reproductive anatomy, hormones estradiol and testosterone profiles and the intrinsic need for hormonal regulation and the mechanism for the reproductive cycle of the eel rice. In the first year aims to determine (1) the profile of estradiol and testosterone hormonal parent during the natural reproductive cycle, (2) histologic gonadogenesis (development of the testes and ovaries) eel rice during the natural reproductive cycle was evaluated by measuring fecundity. Results: In the control group, body weight gradually decreased during the study. Unlike the control group, the treatment groups were observed every two weeks showed an increase in body weight; Results of the study, in the control group (A0), the value of female eels GSI average of the first two weeks until the fourth two weeks is 0.67 % and 1.78%. While the treatment group A1 was 1.42% - 4.28% (DM-1 s / d DM-4), for the treatment A2 GSI average value is 2.52% - 7.05%; fecundity eggs increased during induction period; calibration titer two types of hormones in the first two weeks to the fourth two weeks showed improvement when compared with the control group; histological profile of rice eel gonad after induction of ovaprim-C show that up to the fourth two weeks, gonad has reached late-stage yolk globule (advanced primary oocyte), even the most mature oocyte has reached the stage: in male eels up to the fourth two weeks has reached the stage of spermatozoa
