Abstract

This research intended to analyze factors of students’ lack of self confidence in speaking English. It was also aimed to present possible strategies used to overcome students’ lack of self confidence in speaking English. The type of this research was qualitative. This research was conducted in SMA Negeri 4 BauBau. This research focused on obtaining data from the English teacher and students at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 4 BauBau in the academic year 2018/2019 as the subjects of the research. In collecting data, the researchers used observation, interview. The technique used in analyzing data were three steps, those were data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that the factors which cause students’ lack of self confidence were anxiety, shyness, fear of making mistakes, and lack of vocabulary. Meanwhile, the possible strtaegies to overcome students’ lack of self confidence in speaking English were lowering students’ anxiety in classroom, improving students’ vocabulary, boosting students’ self-confidence, and forming group discussion.

Abstract

The problem statement in this research was whether there was correlation between teacher’s professionalism and syudents’ learning achievemen. The objective of this research was to find out the correlation between teachers’ professionalism and students’ learning achievement. The type of this research was a quantitative research. The population on this research was all students at grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Wabula with total sample of this research was 24 students by using total sampling technique. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire and test. The result of this research showed that at the significance level, the score of rcount was 0.784 and rtable was 0.433, it meant that rcount more than rtable, this showed there was significant correlation between teacher’s professionalism and students’ learning achievement at SMP Negeri 2 Wabula. Also, the coefficient determination was 0.614. it meant that the contribution of teachers’ proffesinalism for students’ learning achievement at SMP Negeri 2 Wabula for 61.4%, meanwhile the rest for 39.6% was other factors. Then, the correlation between teacher’s professionalism and students’ learning achievement at SMP Negeri 2 Wabula was 0.784, it was the strong correlation because it was in the range 0.600-0.799.

Abstract

The problem statement in this research was “How was the level writing ability of students at grade eleven SMK Negeri 1 kambowa?” The objective of this research was to investigate the students level ability in writing. This research used a quantitative method with a descriptive design. Source of data in this research was student at grade XI of SMK Negeri 1 Kambowa. Sample was taken by using saturated sample tehnique, the number of sample was 30 students. Instrument used in this study was a test. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive analysis and inferential analysis in the form of t-test. The result showed that the students’ writing ability were still lacking. This proved by the t-test that t-count was greater than T- table (4,054>1,699). Based on Hypothesis testing, it means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, it could be concluded that the students writing ability on grade eleven at SMK Negeri 1 Kambowa is not high.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to examine students’ reading anxiety and students’ reading strategies to overcome reading anxiety at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Data Collection in this study was carried out using a research instrument in the form of questionnaires. There was research questionnaire “EFL Reading Anxiety Inventory (EFLRAI) consisting 23 items statements to find out the level of students’ reading anxiety. There was also reading strategies questionnaire which consists of 20 items statements to find out the students’ reading strategies. The data obtained were analyzed by using SPSS program 21.0. The results showed that students’ reading anxiety was in the high category with the mean score 2.75 which was dominated by top-down reading anxiety and bottom-up reading anxiety, while the reading strategy was in the moderate category by the mean score 2.81 and the dominantly used was metacognitive strategy.

Abstract

The problem of the research was “what factors did affect students’ reluctance to speak in Speaking class?” the objective of this research was to know what factors did affect students reluctant to speak in Speaking class. The research was a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research were students and a lecturer of Speaking subject in English Department of Unidayan. The data of research were collected through observatin, interview and documentation. The data were analyzed through three steps adopted from Miles and Huberman; data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that students’ reluctance to speak in speaking class caused by two factors namely linguistic problems which were lack of vocabulary, grammar and pronounciation. And non linguistic problem which were lack of self confidence, shyness, nervous, shaking, and worried in making mistake. In addition, students also did not gain any additional English courses outside their class.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of strategy in studying language toward thinking style in EFL students senior high school students in the South Buton regency. A correlational design was used as the method of this research. There were 50 students from grade eleven involved in this research. The data collection used questionnaires as the instrument for both variables and analyzed using the regression test. This research found that the mean score for language learning strategies was 72.78, which was in the good category and the mean score for thinking style was 74.57, which was also in the good category. The hypothesis testing result indicated language learning strategies are significantly and strongly correlated to thinking style since the score of correlation was 0.775.

Abstract

The problem statement based on the background of the research, the research of problems statement formulated, is there any significant difference Study of Students in Reading Interest through Humor Story at SMP Negeri 18 Baubau. This research used a quantitative approach with applying Descriptive methods. Population on this research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 18 Baubau consisted of 256 students. The sample was taken by using a purposive sampling technique consisted of 30 students. The results of this research showed that the based on T table the value was 1,991 and T count was 62,129. It can conclude that t count was 62,129 > 1,991 of T table, so that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. It means that there was not significant difference Study of students’ interest in reading through humor story.

Abstract

Problem Problem statement of this research was whether there was a significant effectof students' writing anxiety on the writing self-efficacyat SMP Negeri 7 Baubau. Objective of the research was to find out whether there was a significant effect of writing anxiety toward writing self-efficacyat SMP Negeri 7Baubau. Data collection in this research was carried out using a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire, to determine the effect of writing anxiety on writing self-efficacy in the use of English. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis, prerequiset analysis, and inferential statistical analysis. Based on the results of the research, it was concluded that there was no significant effectbetween writing anxiety toward writingself-efficacy. This conclusion is based on statistical analysis. Because Fcount is 3.112.with a significant value of 0.183. the calculated Fcount is lower than Ftable and the significant value is greater than (0.05). This means that the null hypothesis is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is rejected.

Abstract

Rumusan masalah dalam Penelitian ini adalah “Dapatkah penggunaan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) meningkatkan minat belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa di Kelas Tujuh SMP Negeri 1 Kadatua Tahun Pelajaran 2021/2022?” Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik dapat meningkatkan minat belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa di kelas tujuh SMP Negeri 1 Kadatua Tahun Pelajaran 2021/2022. Pengumpulan data dalam Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan instrument Penelitian berupa angket kepada kelas eksperimen, untuk mengukur pengusaan siswa pada materi Telling Time. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif dan analisis inferensial dalam bentuk uji sampelberpasangan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh kesimpulan: 1) skor mean pre-questionnaire adalah 53.78 dengan kategori rendah dan skor mean post-questionnaire adalah 75.89 dengan kategoritinggi. 2) skor kemajuan adalah 22.11. 3) hasil pada uji paired sample test didapatkan nilai sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0.00 < 0.05. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak.Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan student worksheets secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan minat belajar bahasa inggris siswa kelas tujuh SMP Negeri 1 Kadatua.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas pentingnya sosialisasi, edukasi, serta pemberian layanan bimbingan dan konseling dalam konteks belajar matematika dan bahasa Inggris. Tujuannya adalah untuk memotivasi siswa agar tertarik dan termotivasi untuk belajar matematika dan bahasa Inggris. Matematika dan bahasa Inggris adalah dua mata pelajaran yang penting dalam kurikulum pendidikan, namun banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam mempelajarinya. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan pendekatan yang komprehensif dalam memastikan pemahaman dan penguasaan yang baik terhadap kedua mata pelajaran ini. Proses sosialisasi dapat dilakukan melalui berbagai metode, seperti diskusi kelompok, presentasi, atau dengan mengundang pembicara yang berpengalaman dalam bidang tersebut. Edukasi menjadi faktor penting dalam memperkuat pemahaman siswa terhadap konsep-konsep matematika dan bahasa Inggris. Selain sosialisasi dan edukasi, pemberian layanan bimbingan dan konseling juga penting dalam membantu siswa mengatasi kesulitan belajar dalam matematika dan bahasa Inggris.
