Abstract

Management function, which consists of planning, organization, directing/actuating, controlling, is a cycle in the management process that cannot be separated). A manager does not only perform one management function but an entire function to ensure service quality. Based on the results of the study and discussion with the head of the nursing division at an Indonesian private hospital, it was found that most nurses did not understand the application of Professional Nursing Practice Models (MPKP) ward. The aim is to provide a proper understanding of professional nursing practice, how the process and what needs to be done by nursing practice, and a correct understanding of nursing care standards (SAK) that can be addressed as a result of evaluation in the form of documentation carried out by nurses by the SDKI, SIKI and SLKI standards. The method of implementation includes a pre-test, providing MPKP and SAK materials, and implementing post-tests. The results of the 49 nurses who attended showed that there was an increase in understanding (p 0.001). Further suggestions are expected to be carried out by training with demonstration methods, role-play, or case studies to increase cognitive, affective, and psychomotor knowledge.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Professionalism in nursing is constantly changing because of the nursing professional development and the values of the community. One important step in achieving and maintaining professionalism in nursing education is through Role modelling. This study was to identify professional role modelling behaviour in nursing education settings from the perspective of the students at a private faculty of nursing in Indonesia. This study applied an exploratory sequential with a mixed-method design that collected qualitative and quantitative data within two different phases. In the first phase, qualitative data were collected via open-ended questions from a total of 287 students. The qualitative data was analysed using thematic analysis which then developed into a quantitative research questionnaire. The newly developed questionnaire was tested for its validity and reliability to 30 students (Cronbach Alpha 0.97). In the second phase, the 35 item questionnaire was developed and self-administered to undergraduate nursing students. Respondents provided opinions on a four point scale (strongly disagree, disagree, agree, and strongly agree). A descriptive statistic was used to describe its item of the questionnaire. Total of 263 nursing students agreed to involve in the study. First Phase reveald categories of professional role modelling in nursing consist of guiding, willing to help, smart, caring, have love, commitment, competence, integrity and have the character of Christ, patient, disciplined. These categories were then developed into a role model questionnaire consisting of 35 questions. Second phase using the questionnaire most students (>80%) agreed that nurse educators demonstrated professional role modelling behaviour in nursing education settings. However, few students disagreed, indicating that they witnessed unprofessional behaviour in their learning journey. This study has developed a number of characteristics of professional role modelling in nursing education settings that most students have agreed. These characteristics are essential and desirable for role models so they could assist nurse educators to strengthen needed characteristics within their institutions. Keywords: Professional, Role Modelling, Nurses

Abstract

The leading causes of death in children vary according to age. Children under five years are vulnerable to infectious diseases such as malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea, HIV, and tuberculosis. Pneumonia is a contagious infectious disease and the most significant cause of death in children under five. Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in children under five. Diarrhea is the leading cause of malnutrition in children under five. Indonesia is included in the top ten countries with the highest number of deaths in children under five years in 2019. This activity aims to increase knowledge of the community, especially mothers, about pneumonia and diarrhea. The method used was a virtual seminar. The webinar was held on May 7, 2021, using a zoom meeting with 87 participants. The majority of participants had never had pneumonia (98.8%). And the number of participants who had experienced diarrhea was 64 participants (80%). The results showed an increase in knowledge after attending the virtual seminar. The average (mean) knowledge score increased by 1.97. The majority of participants gave excellent marks on activities related to the topic/theme of the event, speakers, audiovisual quality, and question and answer sessions.

Abstract

Blended learning is a learning model that combines face-to-face learning with online learning. The blended learning method has advantages and disadvantages, whether face-to-face learning or online learning. This method must be supported by motivation, such as extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation in blended learning is an encouragement to learn in students which arising from external stimuli to the blended learning method like a social environment, family environment, economic, punishment, gift, and rewards. Based on the survey, nursing students do not agree when blended learning was applied to all courses, because of environmental factors, quotas, networks, devices, and the experience of educators. This study aimed to determine the extrinsic motivation of nursing students during blended learning at the Faculty of Nursing, One of the West Indonesian Private universities. This research was conducted through a quantitative descriptive method. The sampling technique of this research used a simple random sampling method by distributing online questionnaires to the class of 2019 at the Faculty of Nursing was 184 respondents. The data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The result of this study showed that the extrinsic motivation of nursing students during the blended learning at the Faculty of Nursing, one of West Indonesia Private University showed that 139 students (75.5%) with moderate extrinsic motivation category. Based on this result, it is influenced by several indicators of extrinsic motivation such as punishment, rewards, and competition with peers. Further research can focus on the self-motivation of students by comparing intrinsic and extrinsic motivation during blended learning.

Abstract

Nursing is one of the supporting components with the most extensive composition in a hospital, where around 40-60% of health professionals in hospital are nurses. This places nurses as one determining factor in measuring the quality of health services in a hospital. To provide service quality, nurses need to develop themselves by increasing skills, cooperation, and guidance from leader management. Guidance and mentoring are essential to improve nurses' competence and performance. Coaching can be a strategy to achieve management functions through guidance, namely the function of direction and controlling. This PKM aimed to train supervisory nurses to be able to do coaching techniques to nursing staff in their ward. The method includes presentation about coaching materials and coaching session practice (role play). Pre- and post-evaluation were conducted to measure participants’ level of understanding. Workshop was held for partipants to practiced coaching sessions using IGROW technique. Results obtained from eleven participants showed a significant increase in knowledge before and after learning (p=0.003). This PkM recommends the implementation of continuous coaching as well as evaluating the effectiveness of coaching by measuring the level of satisfaction of nursing staff before and after implementation of coaching session.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Covid-19 causes fear, worry, fatigue, and post-traumatic stress disorder in nurses who are frontline staff in hospitals.  Based on a survey at a hospital nurses felt burnout in caring for the covid-19 patients due to lack of rest, lack of concentration when providing nursing care, and physical burnout caused by an increase in patients with COVID-19. This study aims to determine the association between respondent characteristics and nurses’ burnout while in caring for covid-19 patients. This research used a correlation quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach.  The sampling technique used was a total sampling of 52 nurses who work at private hospitals in western Indonesia.  Data analysis was bivariate with the Pearson chi-square test.  The research questionnaire used a subjective questionnaire self-rating test from the industrial fatigue research committee Japan (IFRC). The chi-square test resulted that the variables were not related in caring for covid-19 patients, which is age (p-value = 0.414), gender (p-value = 0.404), education (p-value = 0.069), and marital status (p-value = 0.429). Burnout can occur from several factors such as workload, shift, and work environment. This result can imply for nurses to arrange a time to rest and better scheduling. Nursing managers can also reduce burnout by rewarding, motivating, foster a sense of community in the workplace, and creating a comfortable environment for nurses. Keywords: Burnout, Nurse, Fear, Stress Disorder, Post-Traumatic, Covid-19
