Abstract

Garam adalah salah satu bahan pelengkap masakan yang digunakan oleh seluruh orang di dunia. Di Indonesia kebutuhan garam dipenuhi oleh berbagai perusahaan swasta dan perusahaan negara. PT. Garam (Persero) adalah satu – satu perusahaan milik negara yang bergerak dalam industri manufacture garam. Iodium memiliki peran penting untuk membentukan hormon tiroksin yang berperan dalam metabolisme tubuh. Kestabilan kadar iodium dalam garam dapat turun selama proses pendistribusian, penyimpanan, dan pemasakan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui laju reaksi penurunan kadar iodium, maksimum waktu penyimpanan garan, dan stabilitas mutu garam. Kondisi penyimpanan garam yang paling baik adalah dalam wadah berbahan kaca, berwarna gelap atau jauh dari cahaya matahari langsung, tertutup, dan disimpan pada suhu ruang antara 25℃ - 30℃. Proses pemasakan dapat menurunkan kadar iodium pada garam sebesar ±12,855%. Kadar Ca dan Mg pada garam menurun selama proses penyimpanan, namun kadar air pada garam meningkat. Kadar NaCl pada garam harus ≥97% agar kadar pengotornya semakin rendah, dan garam memiliki kualitas yang baik. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan, laju reaksi penurunan kadar ioidum pada garam adalah 0,08312 ppm/hari dan waktu maksimum penyimpanan garam adalah 16 bulan.

Abstract

Salah satu upaya untuk memperpanjang umur makanan adalah dengan memberikan bahan tambahan pengawet. Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan RI Nomor 033 tahun 2012 menyebutkan tentang bahan aditif atau tambahan pangan yang dilarang digunakan dalam makanan, khususnya formalin. Penggunaan formalin sebagai zat aditif makanan memmberikan efek samping yang kurang baik bagi tubuh manusia. Sehingga diperlukan cara untuk mendeteksi atau mengidentifikasi makanan berfomalin dan mensosialisasikannya kepada masyarakat. Masyarakat daerah pesisir seperti di Desa Kedung Bandeng – Sumbermanjing Wetan berpotensi sebagai mitra karena akses geografis dan aksestibilitas yang sulit terjangkau informasi, tingkat pendidikan masyarakat yang rendah serta ekonomi yang masih lemah. Tujuan kegiatan Pengabdian pada Masyarakat (PPM) ini adalah untuk memberikan penyuluhan terkait bahaya penggunaan formalin dan cara mendeteksi formalin pada makanan untuk kelompok tani (Gapoktan) Sumber Makmur – Desa Kedung Banteng. Kegiatan PPM ini dilakukan dalam bentuk pelatihan meliputi presentasi, diskusi dan simulasi penggunaan testkit formalin pada makanan. Pelatihan PPM ini diikuti oleh 30 peserta. Materi disampaikan oleh perwakilan Tim PPM dan simulasi pendeteksian formalin pada makanan dipandu oleh mahasiswa. Kegiatan PPM berjalan lancar dan peserta sangat antusias mengikutinya. Kegiatan PPM berjalan dengan lancar dan peserta sangat antusias mengikutinya. Respon peserta menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan PpM ini memberikan tambahan pengetahuan dan keterampilan mitra. Tim PpM memaparkan solusi terkait edukasi bahaya formalin dengan jelas sehingga peserta merasa pendampingan yang diberikan sudah sesuai dan memuaskan.

Abstract

Nowadays, the substitute for biofuel diesel fuel is biodiesel. Waste cooking oil has the potential as a biodiesel feedstock due to its environmentally friendly, inexpensive, reduces household waste and does not compete with food needs. One effort that can be done is to use CaO catalyst from eggshell waste. Eggshells contain 95,28% CaCO3 which can be calcined to produce CaO. In this research, production of biodiesel is done by using waste cooking oil and CaO catalyst from eggshells with various variables to determine the best calcination conditions in the preparation of the catalyst. The eggshells were calcined at variable temperatures (600,700,800 and 900°C) during the time variables (2,3,4 and 5 hours). The operating conditions in the transesterification reaction were at 60°C for 2hours with a stirring speed of 700rpm and a mole ratio of oil and methanol of 1:12. The results obtained, the best calcination conditions in producing CaO catalysts were at a temperature of 800°C for 2 hours with 78,31% mass recovery. In addition, the transesterification reaction using the best catalyst produced 97,2% FAME with a density of 0,8549 gr/mL and a viscosity of 9,58 cSt.

Abstract

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the State Polytechnic of Malang in carrying out its function, namely carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is required to carry out community service through various forms of activity, for this reason, collaboration with the Siti Fatimah Pandaan Orphanage Foundation is carried out. The purpose of this PkM is to provide counseling and understanding of the program which is expected to be a provision for assistants to be independent and can improve students' skills. The PkM program at the Siti Fatimah Pandaan Orphanage Foundation was chosen by considering the efficiency and intensity of program implementation. Aspects of the problems that are resolved in this PkM Program are improving the ability, competence, and understanding of the target audience. This PkM activity consists of several activities, including: 1) Assistance in the manufacture of hand sanitizers, 2) Submission of materials for making hand sanitizers. The results of the PkM showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in making hand sanitizers. In addition, increasing understanding of the introduction and application of production management and marketing of hand sanitizers. Furthermore, several PkM achievements that have been achieved include: Articles published in national journals with ISSN, and publication of activities on social media

Abstract

Yayasan Yatim Piatu Siti Fatimah Pandaan, located in Nogosari village 2 km from Pandaan sub-district, was established in 1984 and has a total of 117 foster children. In order to improve the creativity and skills of foster children, it is necessary to hold applicative training. Politeknik Negeri Malang as one of the educational institutions in carrying out its function, namely the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is obliged to carry out community service (Pengabdian kepada masyarakat, PkM) through various forms of activities. The Department of Chemical Engineering in collaboration with the Yayasan Yatim Piatu Siti Fatimah Pandaan provided training in making solid bath soap. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the PkM implementation was held online on October 2, 2020, attended by school representatives and a team of lecturers from the Chemical Engineering Department. By enforcing the health protocol, the lecturer team submitted video tutorials, product samples and modules for making solid bath soap to the Yayasan Yatim Piatu Siti Fatimah Pandaan. The explanation about creating of bath soap was carried out online through google meet. With the implementation of this PkM, it is hoped that will be useful in providing knowledge and skills for the Yayasan Yatim Piatu Siti Fatimah Pandaan.
