Abstract

The language class is closely related to the assumption that students will learn and generate the target language. Students are supposed to be able to relate, at least, with the language they have studied. The teacher hopes to not only teach but also use the target language in their teaching-learning process and show the students how to use it. This research explores the teacher's target language in the classroom discourse from the teacher’s point of view—a Qualitative approach employed in this research. The teacher believed that the use of the target language has to be in a maximum way. However, drawn away by the situation of students’ target language knowledge, the use of target language becomes infrequently used. She only used target language for simple words or sentences, which is she knew her students able to comprehend. She needed to use the target language and the students’ first language and mother tongue to help the students more comfortable comprehending the lesson.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa internasional yang digunakan di berbagai negara. Di Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa asing dan merupakan mata pelajaran wajib mulai dari jenjang sekolah dasar sampai perguruan tinggi. Namun dalam kehidupan sehari-hari banyak pelajar yang kurang tertarik mempelajari Bahasa Inggris dan beranggapan bahwa Bahasa Inggris adalah sesuatu yang sulit. Pengabdi tertarik untuk memberikan pendampingan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dasar (basic English) kepada anak-anak yang tergabung dalam Taman Pendidikan Al-Quran Perumahan Harmoni Kota Palopo untuk menanamkan ketertarikan belajar Bahasa Inggris. Usia anak-anak yang aktif di Taman Pendidikan AL-Quran Perumahan Harmoni yaitu anak-anak pelajar Taman Kanak-Kanak (TK) dan Sekolah Dasar (SD). Proses pendampingan ini dilakukan secara regular dua kali sepekan selama enam bulan yaitu dimulai pada bulan Januari sampai Juni 2022. Pengabdi mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris dasar bagi anak-anak dengan metode ceramah tapi santai, brainstorming, listen and repeat, songs, question and answer, coloring, question, and inquiry. Media yang digunakan adalah boardmarker, gambar, lembar tugas sederhana. Pembelajaran dilakukan dengan berbagai tema yang menarik untuk anak-anak. Hasil dari pengabdian ini adalah anak-anak bisa belajar Bahasa Inggris dengan santai dan tanpa mereka sadari karena dilakukan di luar sekolah. Pengabdi juga mendapatkan kontribusi berupa pengalaman pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak (English for Children).

Abstract

English is the language of communication in the international world, even in the fields of development, technology, economics, and education. Being CPNS (Civil Servant Candidates), work in companies with high salaries, and one of the true forms of getting a scholarship is that many universities require a TOEFL or IELTS as a requirement for graduation. Vocabulary is the most important component that youngsters must master in order to be able to utilize the language effectively. The aim of this article is to present results from research on guessing photographs using paper targeted to students, as well as as an additional tool, namely students must use a dictionary when the picture is shown and the English vocabulary from the picture is unknown to them. An experimental strategy is used in this study procedure. Researchers employ the Quasi Experimental Design technique, in which the first stage is orientation or school observation, followed by the selection of the sample and population to be used as research material. The team gave a favorable response from step one through step three based on the results of the checklist and field notes examined during the study process, indicating that the team had improved. According to the data, playing the photo guessing game enhanced effective vocabulary. The number of participants in the experimental class increased after the post-test phase, whereas the number of participants in the control class did not. The experimental class's post-test scores can be seen in the post-test results to confirm it.

Abstract

The goal to be achieved in this research is to find out the effectiveness of the snowball throwing learning model for the learning activities of class VII C students of SMPN 05 Palopo. This research used pre-experimental research, namely the type of One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. In this research, the researchers did the research for 6 meetings. With this research, the results of the treatment can be known more accurately, because it can be compared with the conditions before being given treatment (treatment) and after being given treatment. Based on the results of the research, the use of the snowball throw learning method is effectively used to support students' active learning in the classroom. The application of the learning method of throwing snowballs in class VII C of SMPN 05 Palopo in the English subject has increased rapidly. This research was conducted in 2 (two) stages, namely pretest and posttest. The pretest was carried out before applying the snowball throw learning method to see students' interaction skills in class, and the results of class VII C's pretest were in the less active category. While the posttest or the application of the snowball throwing learning method in the teaching and learning process, the posttest results are in the very good category.

Abstract

This research was aimed in increasing students` speaking skill by using Hallo Application based on android smartphone which the students able to use it everywhere. The research used pre-experimental design which used one group pre-test and post-test. The research was planned by using of hallo application as instrument and learning support. In implementation, the researcher made planning, treatment, evaluating and reflecting in every meeting.  The result of this research from paired sample test showed the result of the analytical comparisons using t-test. The output shows the average before and after the test (-20,900), standard deviation (4,773), mean standard error (0,871). The bottom difference (-22.682), while the top difference (-19,117). The result of the t test = (-23,983) with a df of 29 and a significance of 0,000. Mean score were higher after teaching using Hallo Application. This means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In conclusion, the use of Hallo Application is an effective strategy that will use to teach class XI of Senior High School Students.

Abstract

This research is a type of descriptive research. This study aims to determine the Passing Skills in the Futsal Game of SMP Negeri 4 Palopo. The population is all Futsal players at SMP Negeri 4 Palopo.All 20 players of the Palopo 4 Public Middle School futsal team were used as samples. The sampling technique uses a saturated sample. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis, percentage descriptive analysis. Research shows that passing futsal skills for students of SMP Negeri 4 Palopo are in the moderate category

Abstract

The research entitled “The Use of Spelling Bee to Improve Students` Vocabulary” discovers the effectiveness of the use of Spelling Bee in teaching vocabulary using Spelling Bee game. This research was using pre-experimental design. Pre-experimental design is the simplest research model that uses one to several groups by giving certain treatments and being observed so that changes occur. The research utilized one-group pre-test and post-test. The research location was held at SMPN 5 Palopo, the respondents in the study were eighth grade students namely eighth A and eighth B by used cluster random sampling. The method used in collecting data is pre-test with post-test. The data from the post-test are analyzed statistically using SPSS 25 for Windows. The result of paired sample test showed the result of the analytical comparisons using t-test. The output shows the average before and after the test (-30,000), standard deviation (10,310), mean standard error (2,305). The bottom difference (-41.825), while the top difference (-32,174). The result of the t test = (-16,048) with a df of 19 and a significance of 0,000. Mean score where higher after teaching using Spelling bee games. In conclusion, the use of Spelling be games is an effective strategy that will use to teach class VIII students of SMPN 5 Palopo.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the description of student perceptions in learning and teaching English using the help of the internet,The population or subject of this study were all students of the English language education study program, the Teaching and Education Faculty of the University of Muhammadiyah Palopo. Samples are taken at random, unrestricted or unspecifiedthe number of respondents entered was only 35 students, the research questionnaire totaled 20 statements made in the form of a link and then sent to the whatsapp group chat, sample data collection for this study was by survey technique using Google form media, this study used quantitative descriptive, the instrument used was the Likert model scale and data analysis assisted by using the SPSS version 22 computer, the data results showed an average score for each questionnaire from 3,97 to 4,26 while the average score for the total parts of the questionnaires X1, X2 and Y that is equal to (31,91) , ( 28,40) and (20,03) And it is known that the results of the valid percentage data and the cumulative percentage of 35 respondents according to their perception are 100% strongly agree with the research questionnaire on "Students' perceptions in English teaching and learning by using internet-assisted", then it can be concluded that students have positive perceptions of the research questionnaire.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat di Mitra Gula Aren Desa Tampumia Kabupaten Luwu, menyelenggarakan pelatihan dan demonstrasi lapangan untuk berbagi pengetahuan dan keterampilan. Selain itu, kami menyebarkan materi edukatif untuk mempermudah akses informasi dan hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah peningkatan signifikan dalam kualitas gula aren yang diproduksi oleh petani lokal. Masyarakat sekarang memiliki pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang praktik-praktik terbaik dalam produksi gula aren, dan ini telah meningkatkan daya saing mereka di pasar lokal dan regional. Selain itu, proyek ini juga telah meningkatkan pendapatan petani dan berkontribusi pada kesejahteraan ekonomi masyarakat setempat

Abstract

Sosialisasi penanganan massage olahraga bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran masyarakat/pelatih tentang manfaat sport massage bagaimana hal itu dapat membantu meningkatkan kesehatan dan kinerja atlet. Dengan pemahaman yang lebih baik, diharapkan akan ada peningkatan penggunaan sport massage sebagai alat penting dalam merawat atlet dan memastikan kesejahteraan mereka selama dan setelah berpartisipasi dalam aktivitas olahraga. Penanganan sport massage adalah aspek penting dalam pemeliharaan kesehatan dan kinerja atletik. Pengetahuan tentang teknik-teknik massage yang tepat dan pemahaman tentang manfaatnya sangat diperlukan bagi atlet, pelatih, dan profesional kesehatan olahraga. Sosialisasi penanganan sport massage merupakan langkah yang krusial untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat tentang pentingnya perawatan fisik dalam dunia olahraga. Tujuan dari sosialisasi ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik tentang sport massage, manfaatnya, dan teknik-teknik yang digunakan
