Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out and explain idiom that there in avril lavigne’s song lyrics in album let go 2002. This research is about descriptive qualitative, in which has purpose to make description about idiom that there in avril lavigne song lyrics. This research was done with steps in collecting the data that is by accessing to the internet, searching the song lyrics, reading and finding the idiom. Then, the data was taken with using mcgraw-hills dictionary, oxford dictionary of idioms and make the conclusion. Thus, can be concluded that there are 56 idioms was found and most of them have contextual.

Abstract

Learning English directed to determine the students skill to communicate well and correctly, both spoken and in writing. This research is action research, the purpose of this research is to improve students writing narrative skills. The result of this research showed that there are some improvement after getting the second cycle. There are 12,5 % students was in fair level, and 81,25 % students was in good level and 6,25 % students was in excellent level. The conclusion of this research is the students skill in writing narrative text in the good category. The suggestion for the teacher, The teacher should provide various techniques or materials for students to develop their ideas.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out and analyze the skill of the fifth semester students of English study Program in University of Pasir Pengaraian in using gerund. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted 2 sessions of the test, they were try out test and post test where the purpose of the try out test is to determine the validity of the test items given to the students. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research.There were several types of gerund used in this research. Overall, based on the result of this research, the whole test result which was done by students explain that from the 30 multiple chice test items given the percentage of the correct answer from the all respondents was 50 %. It means that their skill in using gerund can be categorized in the poor level (weak).

Abstract

This research was conducted in order to improve students’ writing skill in recount text at eighth grade of SMP Tiga Hati Kepenuhan Hulu by using personal letter used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted to solve the students’ problem in English Writing. The reseacher did two cycles in which each cycle consisted of plan, action, observation, and reflection. The qualitative data was gained by analyzing the fieldnote, observation sheet and interview, then quantitative data were obtained from the students’ writing score. The finding of this research indicated that the implementation of personal letter media was succesful since there was an improvement in students’ writing skill in recount text. The finding showed an improvement in students’ writing skill in recount text from the average of writing test recount text in cycle 1 was (60,85) to (73,50) the average of writing skill in cycle 2

Abstract

This research purposes to find the students’ writing skill at ninth grade students of SMPN 1 Rambah Hilir. This research was descriptive qualitative. The numbers of population were 92 students. It was consists of 4 class, each class was 23 students. To select the sample the researcher used clustering random sampling technique. The researcher took one class as be sample, it was class IX A that consists of 23 students. The data of this research was students’ score in writing procedure text. The data was collected by using written test. After that, the researcher analyze the data was helped by 3 raters. The findings of the research show that the students’ writing skill in procedure text, was scores 78,82. It means that the students’ skill in procedure text was in good category.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was aimed at finding out the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking skill as well as also the students’ mastering in vocabulary mastery and students’ skill in speaking at the fifth semester students of english study program in University of Pasir Pengaraian. After analyzing and calculating the data, it was found that r calculated was 0,559 with level significance 0.05, and the degree of freedom (df= n-2) was 22. It means that r- counted was higher than r-table (0.559 > 0.404). So, there is cirrelation between two variables above. Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted, that said “There is correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking skill at the fifth semester of English study program in University of Pasir Pengaraian”.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out students speaking skill. Speaking is one of the some skills among listening, writing, reading.This research used descriptive qualitative research design.where the writer described and analyzed the students’ errors in speaking skill. The population of this research was taken from the second grade students’ at Smp 8 Rambah Hilir in Rambah Hilir district is about 21 students.Based on the result, the writer concludes that the second grade students’ of SMP 8 in Rambah Hilir district year 2014/2015 in speaking were good in speaking skill. The result of the analysis showed that 67% out of 21 students have good speaking ability, 33 % of 21 students had average to good speaking ability. No students were in poor to average and poor level ability. The conclusion is the students’ speaking skill is good.

Abstract

This research was Classroom Action Research, this research was conducted at SMPN 4 Pagaran Tapah Darussalam, there were 14 students there, every cycle consisted of meeting with the sequenced activity : Plan, action, Observation and reflection. The teaching learning process was done three stages to follow : pre-activity,whilst –activity and post-activity. The purpose of this research was to improve students reading comprehension. Researcher used five instruments in collecting the data. Test, Observation sheet, Field note, interview and Video. The result showed that the students score. The conclusion of this research was the students reading comprehension on good category.

Abstract

Mahasiswa yang sekarang duduk di bangku Universitasseharusnya sudah mahir berbahasa Inggris. Namun kenyataanyang terjadi di lapangan, sebagian besar mereka tidak bisaberkomunikasi dengan bahasa Inggris tersebut. Padahal sejakTaman Kanak-Kanak sampai mereka di perguruan tinggimereka terus mempelajarinya, tetapi mereka tetap saja tidakbisa berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris. Untuk mengatasinyapeneliti mencoba teknik belajar Kepala Bernomor untukmeningkatkan ketrampilan berbicara mahasiswa.

Abstract

The main problems faced on this research are most of the students do not have a good preparation on following a test of English as a foreign language(TOEFL) and they are also poor in English skills. Purposes of this research are to explain how students’ experiences at TOEFL test and what difficulties are found by the students at 6th semester of English Department of Pasir PengaraianUniversity in completing the TOEFL.
