Abstract

Marosatherina ladigesi is one of endemic fishes in South Sulawesi and also as ornamental fish. Anthropogenic activities such as destructive fishing and degradation caused by the dredging of sand carried M. ladigesi to the red list of threatened IUCN category as vulnerable species. Accordingly, conservation efforts are needed to maintenance fish population in its habitat. The biologic information for conservation is reproduction of fishes. This research aimed to described reproduction of Celebes rainbow fish including sex ratio, gonad maturity, gonado-somatic index, fecundity, and distribution of egg diameter in Pattunuang and Batu Puteh Rivers, South Sulawesi. This research was conducted from May 2018 to April 2019. The result showed that the sex ratio in Pattunuang and Batu Puteh rivers were 1,00:1,60 and 1,00:1,08, respectively. This species spawned from the end of dry season to the early rainy season. Fecundity of fish in Pattunuang and Batu Puteh rivers were 22-795 eggs and 69-571 eggs, respectively. Based on distribution of egg diameter, Celebes rainbowfish categorized as total spawner. For the conservation of this species is recommended to catch restrictions in the spawning season and for male fish, and needs to be proposed the conservation in situ to determine both of rivers as reservoir area because these habitats are a source of germplasm.

Abstract

Flying fish yellow wing (Cheilopogon abei Parin, 1996) is one of the flying fish species that have important economic value in West Sulawesi. This study aims to examine the lengthweight relationship and condition factors of flying fish yellow wing to provide basic data for sustainable management efforts. This research was carried out from October 2021 to March 2022. A Sampling of fish was carried out in Mosso Village, Majene Regency, West Sulawesi Province. Sample analysis was carried out at the Integrated Laboratory of the Department of Fisheries, University of West Sulawesi. The total length was measured using a digital caliper with an accuracy of 0.01 mm and the bodyweight of the sample fish was measured using a digital scale with an accuracy of 0.01 g. The results of data collection obtained as many as 104 fish samples, consisting of 59 male fish and 45 female fish. The results of the analysis of the length-weight relationship of the flying fish yellow wing obtained the equation W=0,056L2,556 in the male fish, W=0.0492L2,589 in the female fish, and the combined equation W=0.0003L2.8846. Furthermore, the results of the t-test on fish with a value of b obtained a t count > t table, so that the flying fish’s yellow wing belongs to the negative allometric (minor) growth type where the increase in body length is faster than the increase in body weight. Differences in gonadal maturity, and the availability of different food every month are the main factors causing the negative allometric growth pattern of flying fish in Majene waters. Condition factor male flying fish yellow wing ranged from 0.8712 to 1.2006 with an average of 1.0015 and the female yellow wing flying fish ranged from 0.8528 to 1.1657 with an average of 1.0046. The condition factor of female fish is higher than that of male fish

Abstract

This research direct analyzes the length-weight relationship and reproduction aspect of bullet tuna (Auxis richei Risso, 1810) that can be valuable data for policymaking in the waters of Bone Bay. Sampling was held from September to November 2021 in Lonrae Village, Tanete Riattang Timur District, Bone Regency. The growth pattern was determined by analyzing the length-weight relationship, TKG was determined by morphological characteristics, and gonad somatic index was calculated based on the Johnson method. The result of the length-weight relationship was obtained b value = 3.3345 in September, b value = 2.837 in October, and b value = 3.3690 in November. The analyze of the t-test obtained t count > t table that means in September and November was classified into a positive allometric growth pattern, conversely, the growth pattern in October was negative allometric. The condition factor of bullet tuna in Bone Bay waters was obtained in the range of 0.95-1.03 with an average of 0.97, in males 1.23-1.44 with an average of 0.95-1.33 and the range was 0.72-0.83 with an average of 0.77 in fimales. The gonad somatic index value in male and female ranged from 0.053 to 0.242 and from 0.052 to 0.068, respectively. The bullet tuna that have been found categorized as immature gonads.

Abstract

Tallua Banua Village is one of the coastal villages where the majority of the population working as fisherman. One of the highlights in Tallu Banua Village is the catch majority of fisherman namely sori fish (Trisoluris sp.). The potential of sori fish is very large, especially when sori fish is abundant during the catch season, hence it is very suitable to be developed as a raw material for making various fishery products including fish balls. The main aims of this community service activity is to provide the training for business groups to get skills and knowledge about business management based on household-scale and diversification of sori fish processing products, hence this can increase their income and welfare. This activity was carried out on Sunday, 19 June 2023 at the Beach Fish Seed Hall, Tallu Banua Village. The training participants in this PKM were the fisherman women’s groups of Tallu Banua Village. The method used is to provide material and direct practice of making fishball products. The results of this service activity show an increase in community knowledge related to procedures for carrying out a good and correct fish processing production by paying attention to SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and SSOP (Standard Sanitation Operational Procedure), carrying out good business management including raw material management and production supporting materials, workforce management and business group financial bookkeeping as well as marketing strategy. Furthermore, with this activity the community group also gained skills in processing sori fish into value-added products, namely making sori fish meatballs starting from weeding, washing, mixing spices, boiling, to packaging. This training is very useful for fishermen women's groups in an effort to increase their income and welfare through training in processing sori fish into fish meatball products.
