Abstract

One of the curriculum’s expectations at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sayurmatinggi is students are able to write exposition text. But in fact, students’ achievement is unsatisfied so that the writer decides to conduct a research in that field. The aims of this research are : 1) to know the extent of students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sayurmatinggi before taught by TREE strategy, 2) to know the extent of students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sayurmatinggi after taught by TREE strategy, 3) whether there is a significant effect of students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text taught by TREE strategy at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sayurmatinggi. The population of this research is all of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sayurmatinggi and the sample is 31 students which are taken by cluster sampling technique. The instrument to collect data used is writing test. The result of analyzed data shows that the score of ttest is 7.8 while the score of ttable is 1.67. it shows that ttest is higher than ttable. It means that there is a significant effect of students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sayurmatinggi taught by TREE strategy.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to identify what the orientation of modality used in Oprah Winfrey Show Finale and to describe how the orientation of metaphor of modality are used in Oprah Winfrey Show Finale. The research design used is descriptive qualitative. The data were taken from Oprah’s love letter in Oprah Show Finale. The data were collected by downloading the transcript of Oprah’s love letter from oprah.com. A letter which is named as ‘A Love Letter To You’ by Oprah in Oprah Winfrey Show Finale are the data of this research, then the writer classified the data into types of orientations of metaphor of modality, and then drawing conclusion from the text. The result of the research shows that there are four orientations of modality used, they are subjective implicit, objective implicit, subjective explicit, and objective explicit. The ways of using metaphor of modality orientation is by projecting clause and the functions are to emphasize strong belief and create the objectivity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimen dengan disain pretest-posttest melalui metode story telling dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris terhadap siswa sekolah dasar. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V SDN 106830. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis cerita seperti apa yang sesuai untuk siswa sekolah dasar dan bagaimana mengimplementasikan serta apa kendala dan solusi yang perlu diambil. Penelitian ini berupa penelitian tindakan kelas dengan hasil observasi kelas sebagai hasil selama tindakan, interview kepada guru dan siswa juga dilakukan untuk mendapatkan data yang akurat untuk melengkapi data dari observasi kelas. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa siswa kelas story telling mencapai nilai lebih baik, siswa menyatakan bahwa dengan metode bercerita, mereka merasa termotivasi belajar bahasa Inggris, senang dengan aktivitas kelas, suasana kelas yang kondusif, dan proses pembelajaran menyenangkan.Berdasarkan masalah yang telah diidentifikasi dan dirumuskan, maka tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjawab pertanyaan yang terdapat di dalam rumusan masalah, yaitu untuk mengetahui model cerita yang sesuai untuk siswa SD, mengetahui cara untuk mengimplementasikan model pembelajaran berbasis cerita kepada siswa SD dan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah dan mencari solusi yang tepat untuk perbaikan

Abstract

One of the curriculum’s expectations at the fourth semester of english department in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan (IPTS) is students are able to write narrative text. But in fact, students’ writing narrative text ability is still low, so researcher conduct a research in that field. The purposes of this research are to find out: 1) the extent of students’ writing narrative text ability, and 2) the significant effect of using character oriented local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of english department in IPTS. The method of research is mix method by combining quantitative and qualitative method. The researcher collected the data by using interview and composition writing test. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique, it was 25 students. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis, it was t-test formula by Arikunto. The findings of the research are the mean score of students’ writing ability before using character oriented local wisdom based learning model was 53.54 which categorized bad, then after using character oriented local wisdom based learning model was 82.50 which categorized good. The hypothesis testing showed that t-test was higher than t-table, it means that the hypothesis is accepted. It clearly seen that there is a significant effect of character oriented local wisdom based learning model on students’ writing narrative text ability at the fourth semester students of english department in IPTS.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to find out: 1) the extent of students’ speaking ability, and 2) the significant effect of using folktale based stotytelling on students’ speaking ability at the second semester students of english department in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan. The research methodology is quantitative method. The researcher collected the data by using oral test. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique, it was 24 students. The data were then analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis, it was t-test formula by Arikunto. The results of the research are the mean score of students’ speaking ability before using using folktale based stotytelling was 51.5 which categorized “less”, then after using using folktale based stotytelling was 72.37 which categorized “good”. The hypothesis testing showed that t-test was higher than t-table (17 > 2.04), it means that the hypothesis is accepted. The finding of research reveals that there is a significant effect of using folktale based stotytelling on students’ speaking ability at the second semester students of english department in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi yang begitu pesat memunculkan berbagai macam media sosial yang digunakan di kalangan masyarakat terutama mahasiswa sebagai kalangan masyarakat berpendidikan. Penggunaan media sosial tersebut bukan hanya memberikan dampak yang positif namun juga dampak negatif. Untuk menghindari dampak negatif dari penggunaan media sosial bagi mahasiswa maka diperlukan adanya analisis terhadap kemampuan literasi media dalam menggunakan media sosial. Mahasiswa pria maupun wanita dalam kehidupan sosial memiliki peran dan kedudukan yang berbeda, khususnya dalam penggunaan media sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur dan menganalisis kemampuan literasi media mahasiswa berdasarkan perspektif gender di Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan mengenai pemberitaan covid-19. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan instrumen kuesioner. Adapun respondem diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling yang berjumlah 20 orang mahasiswa lelaki dan wanita. Kemudian data akan dianalisis dengan tabel frekuensi dan skor untuk melihat tingkat kemampuan literasi media.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic makes the learning activities must be shifted into online learning. This research aim is to describe the implementation of online english learning during pandemic at the English Education Program students of Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan in 2020/2021 Academic Year. The type of this research is qualitative research. Questionnaire is the technique of collecting data with the subject of this research is 10 English Education Program students at the fourth semester. Then the data is analyzed in three steps; data condensation, data display and conclusion. The findings show that the implementation of online english learning which divided in three aspects, they are lesson planning is 69.8%, it is categorized good, the learning process is 58.2%, it is categorized enough and the learning material is 60.4%, it is categorized good. It means that the implementation of online english learning at english language education program in Institut Pendidikan Tapanuli Selatan is good for planning and material, enough for the process. Therefore it needs improvement in english online learning process to make students understand and enjoy the class.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui: 1) Penggunaan dari TBL (Task Based Learning) method dalam pembelajaran membaca teks naratif, 2) kemampuan siswa memahami teks naratif sebelum dan setelah menggunakan metode TBL (Task Based Learning)3) Apakah terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari metode TBL (Task Based Learning) terhadap kemampuan siswa membaca teks naratif di kelas VIII SMP Negeri3 Satu Atap Andam Dewi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimendesign dengan menggunakan one group pretest and posttest design.Populasi dari penelitian ini semua kelas VIII yang terdiri 60 siswa dan sampel terdiri dari 30 siswa yang diambil secara porposive sampling. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan lembar observasi dan instrument tes. Hasil penelitian ini adalah1) penggunaan metode TBL (Task Based Learning) adalah 3.4, dikategorikan “sangat baik”. 2) Nilai rata-rata siswa sebelum menggunakan metodeTBL (Task Based Learning)adalah 36,6, dikategorikan “gagal”. Sementara setelahmenggunakan metode TBL (Task Based Learning) adalah 71, dikategorikan “baik”. 3)ada pengaruh yang significant dalam penggunaan metode TBL (Task Based Learning) terhadap kemampuan siswa membaca teks naratif di kelas VIII SMP Negeri3 Satu Atap Andam Dewi.Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ttest lebih besar dari ttable (ttest 12.46>ttable 2.04). Jadi, hipotesis diterima. Artinya, ada pengaruh yang signifikan darimetode TBL (Task Based Learning)terhadap pemahaman siswamembaca teks naratif di kelas delapan SMP Negeri SMP Negeri3 Satu Atap Andam Dewi.
