Abstract

Reading is one of the language skills that must be mastered by every student, the ability to read becomes one of the mandatory components in the national education curriculum. However, assessment programs of various international institutions and the Ministry of Education & Culture show that students in Indonesia are still low in their reading ability, in this case reading comprehension skills. For this reason, through this literature study, the problems and solutions are examined based on various library sources. The results of the literature study show that there are different standards between the teaching of reading in education in Indonesia and the standards used by various international institutions in measuring students' reading skills. In addition there are various factors driving the low ability & reading culture of students in Indonesia, namely: 1) Reading has not become a necessity, let alone become a culture, 2) Misperception about the concept of reading ability in most societies including students and teachers, 3) Capacity building reading is still perceived as part of the responsibility of language courses only, 3) The learning process still does not utilize models, methods, learning strategies that are diverse and suitable for reading comprehension learning, 4) reading material, learning activities and practice / evaluation questions there are teaching materials in schools that tend to still dwell on low order thinking skills, 5) Not yet the maximum facilities and infrastructure of school libraries as a center for developing the ability and culture of reading students, and 6) Program of Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS) has not shown the progress expected to build a reading culture.

Abstract

Teachers have employed in-class oral presentations to practice the pre-service teachers’ speaking skills as they are prepared to become future English teachers who are fluent in communication using English in a globalization era, However, effectively assessing student presentations is challenging, particularly in terms of practical administration of assessment. Therefore, a video recording as an alternative assessment tool was utilized to provide opportunities for learners and their peers to evaluate their speaking and presentation skills. They will need to combine video-camera on their cell phones or tablets and the use e-google form to give immediate feedback for their improvement. The study used a qualitative descriptive method. The data were gathered from the students’ recording videos, reflective journal, feedback from e-google form. Abstract

Anti-corruption is the most important part of solving the problem of corruption in Indonesia. Measuring the dimensions of the Anti Corruption Behavior Index (IPAK) shows an interesting phenomenon that is the understanding and assessment of the society tends to be more anti-corruption idealists, on the contrary in practice level when dealing with public services still perform corrupt behavior. Such a public service needs to be found a solution with a sociocultural approach, namely by implementing Javanese cultural values or expressions that are in line with the values contained in the anti-corruption values. Thus the noble values in Javanese culture can make corruption behavior be eliminated. Javanese culture can influence other cultures in carrying out anti-corruption values, where the population distribution is evenly distributed in all provinces in Indonesia. In the end, anti-corruption will become the culture of the Indonesian nation so that it can realize the goals of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

Abstract

This article aims to theoretically elaborate a strategy of disseminating peace through peace education and curriculum construction integrated with schooling experiences. Violent behaviors committed by several groups of students have become a reason of why peace dissemination in schools is paramount. The existing curriculum merely concerning its teaching and learning documents has been considered as both insufficient for integrated peace education and inadequate to transform behaviors for peace. This study was conducted through library research on books and journals informing peace education and multidimensional curriculum. This study finds that peace education, which includes building capacities to reduce violence and to sustain cooperative and equal relationships, can be constructed in schooling processes. Moreover, the learning stages need to incorporate various dimensions of peace contents or experiences as planned, acted, evaluated, learned and hidden within the classroom and school interactions. It is suggested that the multi-dimensional curriculum is likely to cohere with a comprehensive school framework for peaceful school life.

Abstract

One of the computer-based mathematics learning media developed is Macromedia Flash-based learning media. Macromedia Flash-based learning media that have been available so far have not been students to be actively involved in using the media. This has encouraged researchers to develop new Macromedia Flash-based media. This research is development research. The development model used in 4D, namely Defines, Design, Develop and Disseminate. The subjects consisted of 60 students in grade 4 at SD Mardirahayu 01 and 02 Ungaran. The research instrument consisted of media validation sheets, material validation sheets, student response sheets, and motivation questionnaires. Research data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that the media developed were valid and could increase students' motivation in learning mathematics in a broad and mobile material.

Abstract

Almost all students who have difficulty in understanding accounting material. Only a few students can understand thoroughly. Most of the students are oriented only to the result of the exercise from the questions, not the understanding of the process, especially for trading company accounting cycle topic. This material requires more understanding in every process of preparation until the preparation of financial statements. The focus on calculating inventory and cost of goods sold makes students often reluctant to do and understand it. This condition also felt by Sedes Sapientiae High School Semarang students. The more complicated cycle requires more attention, sometimes make the students less patient in understanding the cycle. Based on this condition, a tool is needed to solve the problem, which is the Accounting Trade Game. The aim of this game is to attract more attention to students in the learning process on accounting economics subject especially for trading company accounting cycle. In order to solve this problem, development research was carried out using the Borg and Gall model. This model consists of a preliminary study stage, preparation of a product draft, also development and evaluation of the product. As the result, a tool called Accounting Trade Game is a good tool which means that it can help students in the learning the material.
