Abstract

Bahasa merupakan media untuk berkomunikasi antar sesama manusia dan hal tersebut sering juga disebut sebagai fungsi bahasa sebagai fungsi ekspresif dan sosial yang tidak bisa dipisahkan. Kedua fungsi tersebut itulah lalu muncul keberagaman penggunaan bahasa yang salah satunya adalah penggunaan peribahasa untuk mengekspresikan sesuatu dalam percakapan sehari-hari yang terkait dengan fungsi sosial bahasa. Peribahasa yang merupakan salah satu artefak bahasa menunjukkan ciri budaya masyarakat pengguna peribahasa tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penilitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan dua peribahasa dari bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indonesia untuk menganalisis unsur-unsur yang dipakai dalam kedua bahasa tersebut sehingga dapat diketahui ciri-ciri budaya dari bahasa Inggris dan bahasa Indoesia. Data yang diambil dari penelitian ini adalah data yang terdapat di kamus Oxford dan buku peribahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan model prisma yang dikembangkan oleh Geeraerts yang kemudian disederhanakan untuk mengenalisis metafora yang digunakan dalam peribahasa Indonesia dan Inggris. Hasil dari penilitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peribahasa mencerminkan budaya dari pengguna peribahasa tersebut.

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian neurolinguistik, neurolinguistik adalah salah satu kajianinterdisplin ilmu antara ilmu linguistik dengan syaraf manusia. Di sini lebih mengutamakanbagaimana manusia itu memperoleh bahasa. a. Untuk menjelaskan gangguan fonem apa saja yangdialami oleh anak-anak di bawah usia lima tahun (balita) dalam bertutur setiap harinya. b. Untukmenjelaskan peta fonem yang dilafalkan anak-anak tersebut c. Untuk menjelaskan gangguan sarafapasaja yang terjadi pada anak-anak tersebut. Metode yang dipakai untuk mengumpulkan data inidalah metode simak, dengan teknik dasar sadap, teknik dasar lanjutan simak libat cakap (SLC),teknik rekam, dan teknik catat. Untuk Metode analisa data peneliti menggunakan metode kontribusioleh Sudaryanto dengan teknik bagi unsur langsung (BUL) dan didukung oleh teknik pelepasan,delesi, teknik lesap serta teknik ganti, substitusi, ekspansi, dan teknik perluas. Kemudian hasilpenelitian ini adalah: tuturan penutur barada pada tataran penultima dan ultima, penutur hanyadapat melafalkan kata-kata berada pada tingkat sonoritas. Secara persentase fonem yang dapatdituturkan hanya 9,7 % dan yang tidak dapat dituturkan 90,3 %.

Abstract

Gender is often identified with sex and gender, even though they have different concepts. It is associated with men and women who are socially and culturally formed. Understanding about masculine and feminine discourses are formed to identify gender identity which men must behave masculine and women must behave feminine. Taking William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night play as its object, this study aims to see how gender identity displayed and describe the ambiguity of gender identity that is acted by character in the play. The data which were taken from the play were analyzed by relating them to the secondary data taken from references discussing the gender identity depicted in the play. The study concluded that sex, gender and sexual orientation are something that is fluid, not natural and changing and constructed by social conditions. Changes of the identity can be said changing with the form performativity shown, namely by disguise.

Abstract

Writing skills as one of the skills of language skill is a skill that must be owned by students. Material writing skills in bahasa Indonesia courses one of which is to write a paragraph of argumentation. This research aims to know the skills write a paragraph of argumentation Putera Batam University which consists of 42 people samples taken with the technique of simple random sampling. The entire sample is a two-semester student who follows the General language courses academic year 2017/2018 Indonesia. This research data is data the test writing skills. There is no preferential treatment given to a sample to see how paragraph argumentation writing skills students naturally. Based on the test results, obtained an average the value of the skills writing paragraphs students argumentation is 53.64 with standard deviation 7.14.The writing skills test results are grouped in three categories, namely category enough of 11.90%, less of 19.05% category, and the category is very less of 69.05%.It was concluded that paragraph writing skills argumentation Putera Batam University still very low so that so that the professors had to find the right method to improve the writing skills of such argumentation paragraph.

Abstract

This study examined the formulation of the child literature genre with data sources in the form of Walt Disney Animation Movie sellection. Tangled (2010), Brave (2012) and Frozen (2013) were the 3 films chosen as data in this paper. The approach used by researchers in this study is a popular literary approach to the genre of children's literature based on Cawelty theory and other supporting theories. Child literature was generally a work created for children in which the language and story were simpler and easier to understand with the aim of entertaining and educating children at their age; help children in developing imagination, able to understand the meaning of life, and able to distinguish human characters. But more than it, children literature also displayed something that was unrealistic but could be accepted by the child as something that was reasonable and acceptance in a film. It was due to the intelligence of the producers in determining the direction of production so that the people really feel satisfied. In this study, researchers found that although plot in popular works was presented with various kinds of innovations and creativity of producers, there were formulas that became conventions so that children's literature could be accepted as reasonableness so as to obscure the boundaries of reality and reality in literary works.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out how the ability of students to speak English before and after the experiment of the direct method and whether the students’ speaking ability improve by approaching the direct method directly through mastering grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation by, (Villalobos, 2010). And the experimental research model used is one group of pre-test and post-test experimental design (Cohen, Manion & Morrison, 2007), experimental (O1 X O2) Methods of data collection are consist of observation, interview and recording. Data analysis through grouping and comparison by category; unsatisfied category (US), fair category (F), good category (G), very good category (V) and excellent category (E). The results of the research base on the pre-test were included in the US category = 10 students, F = 26 students, G = 15 students, VG = 2 students and E = 0, no result found and post-test student learning outcomes US = 0, no result found, F = 7 students, G = 22 students, VG = 20 students and E = 4 students. Then the positive effect of using the direct method results is the students' ability in speaking English increased higher, refers to the pre-test results the student ability category found in US categories and no found the same category in the post-test results, the students ability category no result found in category E and the US category.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the attitude of the language towards the politeness of the language of the students of Putera Batam University. This study used a survey method. The sample in this study were 43 students of English Literature. Data obtained from observation sheets and questionnaires. Assessment is done using a Likert scale. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics using technical regression analysis. The results of the study showed that language attitudes had a positive effect on student politeness. This finding recommends that the development of language attitudes will improve student language politeness. This study aims to analyze the language attitude of students of the English Literature study program at Putera University, then analyze the politeness of the students of the English Literature Study Program at the Putera Batam University. And the influence of language attitudes on the politeness of the language of students of English Literature Study Program, Putera Batam University.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the process and analyze thescore result of learning the review text with quantum learning method in class VIII-3 at SMPN 20 Batam. In essence, the research aims to improve the learning process of writing a reviewtext. Furthermore, by providing a quantum learning method can improve students' test scores in writing a reviewtext. This research is a classroom action research that use descriptive method. The research data is described qualitatively by observation checklist, field notes, questionnaires, and interviews. Data of learning outcome obtained from tests of writing reviewtext. This research was conducted in two cycles through four procedures: (1) planning, (2) actions, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. Based on the analysis of research finding, it can be summarized as follows;First, the learningprocess of writing the review text by using quantum learning method in class VIII-3 SMPN 20 Batam performed well in Cycle II. Second, the application of quantum learning method in writing a reviewtext in class VIII-3 SMPN20 Batam can improve the scoreof learning outcomes in writing reviewtext. The improvement was seen from the average count at each cycle, for example pra-cycles 58.72, 70.69 Cycle I and Cycle II 83.25.

Abstract

Abstrak Pentingnya bahasa dalam hubungannya dengan lingkungan dan budaya menjadikan bahasa sebagai unsur penting dalam penelitian lingkungan alam dan sosial. Berbicara mengenai budaya dan alam dalam kajian ekolinguistik tidak lepas dari local genius yang menjadi kekayaan suatu bangsa termasuk dalam hal ini adalah kuliner tradisional yang secara sengaja (culturally) atau tidak disengaja (naturally) memiliki keterkaitan dengan alam sekitar yang melingkupi suku/bangsa pembuat kuliner tersebut. Salah satu kuliner tradisional asal Bengkulu, yaitu Ikan Pais menjadi salah satu bentuk budaya setempat (local genius) yang terwujud dari penggunaan beberapa benda lainnya berhubungan dengan lokasi pembuatan kuliner tersebut. Penulis mengangkat topik Ikan Pais sebagai local genius dalam penelitiannya yang dianalisis menggunakan sudut pandang ekolinguistik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan deskripsi yang lengkap dan sahih tentang bentuk, makna, fungsi, dan nilai yang terkandung dalam benda-benda local genius kuliner tradisional Ikan Pais. Penelitian ini mengacu pada teori-teori linguistik umum dan ekolinguistik yang berhubungan dengan bentuk, makna, fungsi, dan nilai, antara lain teori yang dikemukakan oleh Chomsky (dalam Van Valin dan LaPolla (1997), Lyons (dalam Djajasudarma, 2009), Suryadi et al (2002), Edward Sapir, Peter Finke, dan Einar Haugen (dalam Fill dan Mühlhaüsler, 2001), serta berbagai pandangan lain yang mempunyai korelasi dengan penelitian ini. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode cakap, metode simak, dan metode kepustakaan. Metode cakap adalah percakapan dan terjadi kontak antara peneliti selaku peneliti dengan penutur selaku nara sumber. Metode simak adalah penyimakan terhadap bahasa yang digunakan (Sudaryanto, 1988). Sedangkan metode kepustakaan adalah pengumpulan data dengan mengadakan studi penelaahan terhadap buku-buku, literatur-literatur, catatan-catatan, dan laporan-laporan yang ada hubungannya dengan masalah yang dipecahkan (Nazir dalam Agung, 2011). Dengan demikian, hasil yang diharapkan adalah berupa pemerian terhadap aspek tersebut dipandang dari disiplin ekolinguistik. Keywords: ikan pais, local genius, ekolinguistics
