Abstract

The incidence of phlebitis is an indicator of hospital performance and requires the percentage of phlebitis to be less than 5%. Intensive monitoring of patients who receiving intravenous therapy can reduce complications from phlebitis and improve service to patients. This study aims to determine the effect of the intervention package Touch, Look, Compare, Compress (TLCC) on the incidence of phlebitis in pediatric patients who are infused. This research is an experimental study with a quasi-experimental design, respondents will be divided into 2 groups: The group given the TLCC flyer intervention and the control group given the intervention according to hospital procedures. The measurement of phlebitis uses a phlebitis degree table instrument developed by the Infusion Nurses Society (INS). Measurements were taken on day 1, day 2 and day 3. The results showed an increase in the mean of patients who had phlebitis on day 3 in the control group. There were significant differences in the degree of phlebitis on days 1, 2 and 3 (p value = 0,000) in the control group. In the intervention group there was no significant difference in the degree of phlebitis on days 1, 2 and 3 (p value = 0.368). Statistical test results using Mann Whitney showed no significant difference in the degree of phlebitis in the two groups on day 1 (p = 1.00), while on days 2 and 3 there was a significant difference (p = 0,000). Monitoring pediatric patients with intravenous therapy through TLCC interventions can prevent phlebitis.

Abstract

Malnourished and poor nutrition are still a health center problem in Indonesia. A good nutritional intake can often not be fulfilled by a child, including due to various factors. Baby massage is a touch therapy that is carried out on baby so that it can provide assurance of ongoing body contact, maintain a feeling of security in the baby and strengthen the parent's love cord with the baby.  The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of baby massage by mothers on improving the nutritional status of baby with malnutrition aged 6-12 months. This study used a quasi-randomized pre-test and post-test control group design. Samples were 48 babies aged 6-12 months with malnutrition divided into two groups (intervention and control group). This research was carried out for 3 months. Results showed that stimulation of baby massage is effective in increasing mean IGF-1 levels for malnourished baby aged 6-12 months, namely the average IGF-1 level in the pre-intervention group for baby massage by 1.37 ± 1.00, showed a significant increase (p = 0.003). Whereas in the control group showed a significant increase (p = 0.001) with the average IGF-1 pretreatment level was 3.37 ± 8.15. The results of the case and control group analysis showed significant differences in mean IGF-1 levels (p = 0.002) or (p <0.05). Baby massage is effective in increasing nutritional status and IGF-1 in baby aged 6-12 months. Babies’ Mother and health provider are recommended to apply baby massage to improve nutritional status of malnourished babies.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a disease that infects the respiratory tract to the deepest tip of the lungs. Most of the COVID-19 patients have comorbidities with hypertension, especially in the elderly. Increasing age coupled with pre-existing diseases make the elderly more susceptible to more severe COVID-19 infections. This study aims to determine what factors are related to the compliance of hypertension patients in implementing the COVID-19 health protocol. This study uses a descriptive correlation design and uses cross sectional approach. The research sample was 70 respondents who were taken based on the inclusion criteria using purposive sampling technique. The measuring instrument used is a questionnaire sheet for the variables of knowledge, attitudes, family support, and COVID-19 health protocol compliance. The analysis used is univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using chi-square test. After collecting data on 70 respondents with hypertension at one of the public health center in Pekanbaru, the results of the chi-square test on the attitude variable with compliance showed p value 0.036 < (0.05), the family support variable with compliance obtained p value 0.005 < (0.05), and the knowledge variable obtained p value 0.212 > (0.05). Based on the results of statistical tests, it can be concluded that there is a correlation between attitude factors and family support factors with hypertension patient compliance in implementing health protocols, while there is no correlation between knowledge factors and hypertension patient compliance in implementing health protocols

Abstract

The growth and development of children in Indonesia still needs serious attention. The rate of growth and development delays is still quite high. Providing health education by health workers is an effective way to deliver valid, updated and evidence-based information. The baby watch book can be used as an educational tool for the baby's mother, specifically designed to increase the knowledge and skills of the parents. This study was a pre-experiment study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was 30 mothers of infants at the Karang Taliwang Health Center. Data analysis used was the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results show that the majority of respondents were aged 20–35 years (80%), graduated from senior high school education (43.3%), working as a housewife (86.7%), and their main sources of information was health workers (23.3%). Before the intervention, most of the respondent has poor knowledge (50%). After given the intervention, there was an increase in their knowledge; there were 97% respondent have a good knowledge. Wilcoxon sign ranked test showed p-value 0.000 (p<0.05). This means that there was a significant effect of health education using baby watch book on mothers' knowledge about the development of babies aged 3 to 6 months.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of reproductive health knowledge with early adolescent sexual behavior in Patian Village. The sample in this study amounted to 103 people who were taken by purposive sampling technique. Methods of data collection using a sexual behavior scale and reproductive health knowledge questionnaire. Based on a simple linear regression test, a significance value of 0.033 with R = -0.207 , and the value of the equation Y = 89.679 + - 1.040X, which means knowledge of reproductive health has a negative role on sexual behavior so that every increase in knowledge of reproductive health by one point (eg 89.679 -> 90,679), then sexual behavior will decrease by -1,040. In addition, an R Square of 0.043 indicates that knowledge of reproductive health has a role contribution to sexual behavior by 4.3%. Thus it can be concluded that there is a negative role of reproductive health knowledge on sexual behavior, so the higher the knowledge of reproductive health, the lower the sexual behavior of early adolescents in Patian Village.

Abstract

Aging causes physiological changes in all organs in the human body which resulted in body weakness, physical declines and the emergence of age-related conditions such as increased uric acid levels that can cause complications including kidney stones, gout, and rheumatism. Efforts should be encouraged to improve physiological functions in the elderly. These can be a form of care, treatment, healthy lifestyle, or other efforts, such as physical activity. Ling Tien Kung is one of the physical exercises that can be carried out by the older people . The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between Ling Tien Kung's routine and uric acid levels in the elderly. This study used a cross sectional study design. The Ling Tien Kung interventions was carried out once a week, for 45 minutes for two months. Twenty-five respondents were involved in this study. The sampling technique for selecting respondents was non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling method. Data was analyzed using the Pearson Correlation test. Although the statistical analysis showed that there were no significant correlations between a regular Ling Tien Kung exercise and uric acid levels, some respondents have a lower uric acid level at the end of the study. This may happen because the physical exercise that only be done once a week is not optimal for transporting all the body's metabolism which should then be excreted through the kidneys.

Abstract

The prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic disaster that has been carried out so far still has various forms of challenges so that positive cases of Covid-19 have the potential to continue to increase every day. One of the ways to handle the Covid-19 pandemic disaster in hospitals is by nursing who have competencies that have been set according to standards. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between nurse competence and preparedness in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic disaster at the Regional Hospital of Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. This research used a quantitative design method with a correlational analytic approach. The technique of determining respondents used purposive sampling method. The results of the Spearman Rank variable test of knowledge, attitude and skills show no significant correlation to preparedness in dealing with non-natural disasters Covid 19 with p-value > 0.05. 0.097 for the p-value of the knowledge, 0.188 for the p-value of attitude and 0.720 p-value for skill. Meanwhile, the direction of the correlation between the three variables has a undirectional nature in accordance with the positive value of the correlation coefficient. The correlation level of the three variables were moderate level of correlation (0.308), very weak correlation level (0.247) and very weak correlation level (0.068) for knowledge, attitude and skills, respectively. The competence of nurses as part of the Covid 19 pandemic response team needs to be improved in the hope of minimizing casualties and greater material and non-material loss.

Abstract

Nursing students need to be trained in reflective competence as early as possible since it is an essential attribute for developing autonomous, critical and advanced practitioners in the future. However, there remains less attention in the usage at the bachelor nursing programs, particularly in the first year level. This study aimed to  explore freshman nursing students’ reflective writing experience in basic nursing concept courses. Descriptive qualitative study was used in this study. Focus group interviews using zoom meeting platform were conducted with ten participants recruited through purposive sampling using the inclusion criteria, such as freshman nursing students who successively take basic nursing concept courses in semester 1 and 2 in academic year of 2019-2020 and attended learning process using reflective writing. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The experience of freshmen nursing students of reflective writing can be summarized into three themes, including difficulty at the initial process, challenging in the progress, and satisfying at the end of the process. Although freshmen nursing students struggled to understand the purpose and work on reflective writing, by the end of the two semesters, it had become a fun and satisfying experience. It has benefited both the learning process and the students personal lives. Students will be challenged to become proficient in reflective writing and improve self regulated learning over the course of two semesters. Reflective writing utilization based on other guidelines could be adopted. Nursing student critical thinking evaluation in reflective writing successively is needed to be considered
