Abstract

This study discussed the eastern healing practice in Sakai Batin Sobanga at Sobanga Asal Hamlet, Bengkalis, Riau. Sakai tribe is well known in the community for its healing practices. Badike is a ritual that has been widely studied from various disciplines, while the ritual practices of other Sakai tribes are not widely known. This is a qualitative study with an ethnographic approach, in which the researchers stayed for two months in Kasumbu Ampai Village, Sobanga Hamlet, Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau. Data were taken through participatory observation and in-depth interviews with informants. The informants were bomo and several community leaders. The data were analyzed descriptively and then written in the form of narrative using Kalangie and Foster’s eastern healing theory to get a general trend. This study found that the medical practice in the Sakai Batin Sobanga tribe is an integral system, so that a ritual is precondition for the next one. Badike ritual cannot be carried out if personal healing ritual, tetomeh ritual, baulin and jungkul ritual have not been carried out. The Badike ritual is the last stage of the Sakai Tribal healing practice in Batin Sobanga. Religion-based healing and western medicine practices are also found in Batin Sobanga. Bomo is always open to his patients and gives them a space to go to a doctor or tuan guru. This research contributes to the anthropology of health, ethnomedicine, especially its novelty about the process of medical practice in the Sakai Tribe in Batin Sobanga.

Abstract

The eco-tourism program benefits much the community, where social culture and local wisdom of the people in each of regions preserve their custom, culture and sustainability differently. This study aims to determine the role of community and the role of local wisdom, the inhibiting and supporting factors, as well as the impact of the ecotourism program based on local wisdom in increasing the people's income. The research method used was a case study with a qualitative research type. The data sources for this study consisted of key informants including the Head of Dusun (Hamlet) and the Head of the Kaban Mayas Tourism Management Group, as well as regular informants including 7 (seven) local people from the Meliau hamlet. The methods of collecting data used were in-depth interviews and observation. The result of this study reveals that the role of the community is very important because local knowledge they have can help the implementation of ecotourism, where the community contributes to providing homestay, consumption, transportation and local guide or porter services and the ecotourism program is regulated by customary rules living in the community. The factor inhibiting the ecotourism program is mainly related to access to transportation, while the factor supporting is related to natural potency, cultural potency, animal diversity, and public awareness. The ecotourism program in Meliau Hamlet has a positive impact on community income, because the community has additional sources of income from managing homestay services, transportation services, and local guides. In addition, it also has an impact on improving the quality of processed non-timber forest products so that they have a fairly high selling value and also helps the marketing process. The findings of this study is expected to be taken into account in formulating local government policies in supporting the participation of local communities in ecotourism areas so as to increase their income.

Exploitation is very vulnerable to children's lives. Child labor is a form of exploitation that we often encounter in many areas in Indonesia, one of which is in Gorontalo. The exploitation of child labor is carried out not only by the environment and the surrounding community but also often by the parents or close relative of the victim. In addition, wanting to make the family's economic life easy during the Covid-19 pandemic is also one of the factors driving children to become victims of exploitation. State, government and society should pay attention to and protect child labor becoming the victim of exploitation. Likewise, parents must also be responsible for maintaining and maintaining children's human rights. Therefore, intervention by social workers from community and government is needed regarding how to make those categorized as children not vulnerably and easily becoming the victims of exploitation later. The purpose of study is to find out the factors influencing the child workers to become victims of exploitation during the Covid-19 pandemic and how social workers intervene the handling of child labor. The research method used was an empirical normative approach, through studying literature study and facts in the field and then analyzing the data qualitatively and descriptively. The results of study show economic and environmental factors causing child exploitation during the Covid-19 pandemic. Abstract

Sedekah Laut (Coastal Thanksgiving) is a tradition inherent to coastal communities or fishermen in Indonesia. The implementation of Sedekah Laut has a characteristic difference, both from ritual addressing to implementation. Although sea charity has the same purpose - as a means of giving thanks to God Almighty for the blessings that have been given- Munjungan people also has a Sedekah Laut tradition commonly called the Longkangan traditional ceremony. This tradition is routinely held annually in the month of Dzulkaidah on the Hijri or Sela calendar on the Javanese calendar. The implementation of tradition has a procession and symbolic meaning. This research aims to describe and analyze the implementation process and the meaning of Longkangan Ceremony tradition. This research used descriptive qualitative research methods with data collection techniques consisting of observation; interview; and documentation. Triangulation technique was also used to analyze the data that has been collected to obtain the validity of data according to the theory of symbolic interactionism according to George Herbert Mead and the concept of customary ceremonies according to Koentjaningrat. The results of study are the stages of Longkangan traditional ceremonies held twice in one day, the procession of Labuh Laut by Tumpeng Agung in the morning followed by officials and the Muspika (District-Level Executive Conference) as the patron of Munjungan District and the core ceremony at night followed by guests Breng Kidul. Each stage of this tradition procession also has a specific symbolic meaning. Hopefully, the historical manuscript of Longkangan traditional ceremonies can be recorded and can be studied by the younger generation, especially the Munjungan community.
