Abstract

The low productivity of cucumber plants in Indonesia can be caused by several factors, one of which is fertilization. Fertilization on Inceptisol soil which has a low nitrogen content is needed to increase cucumber crop yields. The use of inorganic fertilizers is limited to avoid environmental pollution, so the use of biofertilizers can be an environmentally friendly option. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of concentration and interval application of azolla extract based biofertilizer on the total soil N, plant N content, Azotobacter population and cucumber yield. The experiment was carried out from August to November 2021 at the Ciparanje Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University. This experiment used a Completely Randomized Block Design of a combination concentrations (0, 5, 10, 15, 20 mL.L-1) and time of application (1, 2, 3 times). The results showed that the application of azolla extract based biofertilizer with different concentrations and application times had a significant effect on the azotobacter population but had no significant effect on soil nitrogen levels, plant nitrogen concentrations, and cucumber yields. The addition of 20 mL/L 2 times application of azolla-based biofertilizer increased cucumber fruit weight by 35.97% compared to control but did not cause a significant increase in yield

Abstract

The research was aimed to determine the growth of shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) from true shallot seed (TSS) by giving compost and biochar in Typic Hapludults soil. This research was conducted at the Greenhouse and Laboratory of Soil and Agroclimate, Agriculture Faculty, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University and conducted on November 2020 to January 2021. This research used a factorial randomized block design (RBD) consisted of two factors, that were compost and biochar dosage that mixed into the suboptimal soil. The first factor was the dosage of compost (K) which consisted of 3 levels, that were 12.5 tonnes/ha (k1), 25 tonnes/ha (k2), and 37.5 tonnes/ha (k3). The second factor was the dosage of biochar (B) which consisted of 3 levels of experiment, namely 7.5 tonnes/ha (b1), 10 tonnes/ha (b2), and 12.5 tonnes/ha (b3). The results showed there was no interaction between the application of compost and biochar to suboptimal soil on the growth and yield of shallot. Giving biochar of 7.5 tonnes/ha had a significant effect on the parameters of the number of leaves at 1 WAP.

Abstract

Biofertilizers contain bacteria that can offset the use of inorganic fertilizers. However, using bacteria as biofertilizers also requires carrier materials such as bran, compost, and Azolla flour to maintain the viability of the bacteria before being transferred to the soil. This study aimed to determine the effect of consortium biofertilizer with different carriers and doses of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) fertilizer on the growth and yield of upland rice on Inceptisols from Jatinangor. This study used a randomized block design with two factors: the carrier of consortium biofertilizer (compost, rice bran, and Azolla) and the dose of NPK fertilizer (0%, 50%, and 100%). The experimental results showed no interaction between the consortium's biofertilizers with carrier and NPK fertilizer doses on plant height, number of tillers, weight of rice grain, and weight of 100 grains of upland rice plants. The independent factor of biological fertilizer with carrier material significantly affected plant height, and the independent factor of single NPK fertilizer significantly affected plant height, number of tillers, and rice grain weight.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the influence of topographic attributes on soil texture classes using discriminant analysis. The topographic attributes considered in this study include elevation, slope, aspect, plan curvature, profile curvature, Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), and Topographic Position Index (TPI). The research location is the Sub Citarik Watershed, Upper Citarum Watershed, located at an altitude of 780-1800 m above sea level. The type of soil at the research location is Inceptisols. The results of the study show that topographic characteristics have a significant influence on soil texture classes. The discriminant analysis used in this study successfully classified soil texture classes with a reasonably high accuracy ((86,11%), although there is some room for improvement. This model shows good potential as a tool for predicting soil texture classes based on topographic characteristics, which can be used in various applications, including soil management and land use planning. The conclusion of this study highlights the importance of considering topographic attributes in soil management research and practice. Further research is suggested to improve the accuracy of the model and explore the use of this model in different contexts.

Abstract

The status of nutrients N, P, and soil organic content in corn cultivation is an important thing that needs to be pursued to improve soil quality. One such effort is through mycorrhizal inoculation and the application of appropriate compost. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (FMA-1) and compost types on soil chemical properties (C/N, C/P), degree of root infection, and corn pruning weight (Zea mays) on Inceptisols. The experiment used three replications of a factorial randomized block design (RBD). The first factor of FMA inoculation: FMA 0 gpot-1, FMA-1 20 g/pot; Mycofer 20 g/pot, and mix (FMA-1 10 g/pot + FMA mycofer 10 g/pot), and the second factor is compost application: 0 g/pot; 75 gpot-1 rabbit hutch compost; 75 g/pot market waste compost and rabbit cage compost 37.5 g/pot + market waste compost 37.5 g/pot). The results showed that there was no interaction between AMF inoculation and the application of compost which affected soil chemical properties, degree of root infection, and dry weight of corn plants. However, independently AMF affects the degree of root infection, and compost affects the dry weight of corn plants. A dose of 20 g/pot FMA and mixed FMA inoculation (FMA and Mycofer) significantly increased the degree of root infection compared to the control treatment. The application of all types of compost showed a significant increase in corn plant dry weight compared to the control. Doses of 75 g/pot of market waste compost tended to increase plant dry weight higher than other treatments with an addition of 32.07 g each plant.

Abstract

Ultisols are a marginal soil order which is widespread in Indonesia. However, due to the limitations the fertility of this soil, it is necessary to add organic matter beside inorganic fertilizers to support the growth of cacao seedlings. The objectives of this study were to determine the growth response of cacao seedlings due to the application of NPK and vermicompost fertilizers, as well as to determine the interaction effect and the best dosage of those fertilizers on the growth of cacao seedlings in Ultisols. This study was designed in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Factorial with two treatment factors. Treatment doses for NPK were 0 g/polybag, 0,5 g/polybag, and 1 g/polybag, while the doses for vermicompost treatment were 0 g/polybag, 12,5 g/polybag, and 25 g/polybag. Each of these factors was repeated three times, so 27 experimental units in total. Observational data were analyzed using analysis of variance and further analyzed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% significance level for statistically significant results. The growth variables of cacao seedlings were seedling height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and leaf area index. The results showed that the best dose of vermicompost fertilizer to the growth response of cacao seedlings was 12,5 g/polybag. However, we found no interaction effect between NPK fertilizer and vermicompost to the growth of cacao seedlings in Ultisols

Abstract

The need for adequate nutrition for organic rice cultivation is very important. It is necessary to look for various sources of nutrients apart from organic fertilizers from rice straw compost and manure. Azolla water ferns and solid or liquid biofertilizers shoud be used as an alternative in the way to increase plant nutrients in organic rice cultivation in paddy fields. This experiment aims to increase the yield of lowland rice plants which are cultivated organically for the first time through the application of organic fertilizer enriched with azolla and biofertilizers in the lowland rice fields of Inceptisols Jatinangor. The experiment was carried out at the Experimental Garden, Ciparanje, it’s belong to Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran, Sumedang, West Java. The design used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with six treatments, namely organic fertilizer, organic fertilizer + Azolla, organic fertilizer + solid biofertilizer, organic fertilizer + Azolla + solid biofertilizer, organic fertilizer + liquid biofertilizer, organic fertilizer organic + Azolla + liquid biofertilizer. Each treatment repeated four times. The experimental results showed that the application of a combination of organic fertilizers and biofertilizers had an effect on lowland rice yields but had no significant effect on plant N content and N uptake of lowland rice plants in Inceptisols Jatinangor.
