Abstract

During COVID-19 pandemic, social media has become a basis for information deployment, it has the potential to change people opinion and solve many issues in this situation. Based on Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), threat and coping appraisal were predictors to behavioral responses in pandemics. This study aimed to analyze the impact of social media intervention in adult population during COVID-19 pandemic based on PMT. This review was created using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) and data collection from electronic databases such as Pubmed, Mendeley app, Europe PMC, Cochrane Databases, Science Direct, and Wiley Online Library. Inclusion criteria consists of English studies, studies related to the topic and match with required variables. There are five cross-sectional studies involving a total of 2.448 participants that were published in 2020. Among all categories based on included studied, it was shown that cyberchondria, perceived severity and perceived vulnerability are predictors in social media, related to behavioral responses during COVID-19 pandemic. Reducing information overload, related to cyberchondria, via the clear structuring and communication of reliable health information is needed. Hence, educating people on responsible and healthy social media use could help alleviate the observed negative consequences from perceived severity and vulnerability.

Abstract

To resolve the health crisis caused by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Indonesian government is trying to implement a mandatory vaccination policy for all Indonesians. It was just that the success of this policy is largely determined by acceptance preceded by the public intention to be vaccinated, in which public perception plays a major role in determining intention. This research, therefore, aimed to evaluate and examine the role of perceived risk, benefit, and susceptibility on the COVID-19 vaccination intention. By using a cross-sectional approach, this quantitative study involved 98 participating respondents who were determined by the purposive sampling method. The results of this study finally found and proven that perceived risk (coefficient β=0.290 and T-value 2.456 with p-value=0.011), perceived benefits (β= 0.394 and T-value 3.873 with p-value=0.000), and perceived susceptibility (β=0.233 and T-value 3,230 with p-value=0.001) had a positive and significant effect on the COVID-19 vaccination intention.

Abstract

A pandemic of a novel coronavirus-infected disease is currently ongoing in the world. Most patients have to be isolated due to the treatments. This study aimed to make sense of how patients with coronavirus-infected disease understand and experience infectious isolation. The research used a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was conducted with in-depth interviews of nine patients with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) confirmed who had been in the isolation room. The analysis was conducted on interview transcripts by organizing keywords found into categories, sub-themes, and themes based on Colaizzi's approach. The results indicated that the participants experienced fright due to the isolation and attempted to integrate their isolation experiences. Isolation highlighted a sense of threat posed by cross-infection, a threat that participants experienced as originating from others and from themselves to others. Participants described feeling changes experienced after several days of treatment. Participants reported various symptoms of the disease and received careful care while in isolation. They still communicate with family. Isolated patients are able to deal with the treatment by improving their coping strategies. Participants reported the most support from their families, even from a distance. Future research could explore experiences of isolation from family and staff perspectives and identify the psychological aspect in caring for the COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

Construction workers are among workers who have to face a very dynamic work situation with a fixed deadline because they have to finish the work according to the target of completion as stated in the contract. The study aimed to compare Satisfaction with Life, Psychological Distress, and Workplace Bullying of the workers in two construction companies. This is a cross-sectional study using a questionnaire distributed to two groups of workers who work in two different companies with a total number of respondents of 588. Data collected were then processed using a frequency distribution table and compared using the Mann Whitney method to identify differences between the two groups. The study showed differences between the workers from the two companies in terms of negative behaviors, level of distress, and level of satisfaction with life. Workers in the Civil Engineering Contractor Company suffer more bullying and a slightly higher level of distress. The lowest level of satisfaction with life is also seen in this company when compared to that of the engineering procurement construction (EPC) contractor company. The result of study indicate that difference might link to more bullying actions and a higher level of distress in the construction civil engineering company, which trigger dissatisfaction with life among its workers. Thus, management should act promptly to eliminate negative behaviors as it will be crucial in preventing the increase in the number of bullying victims and the level of distress in the workplace will not increase.

Abstract

Modern society spends more time indoors, which has led to the hypothesis that indoor exposure can better represent the effects of air pollution at the individual level. Studies on the landscape of urban residential indoor air quality have never been carried out nationally in Indonesia. After 70 years of commitment to standardize the health aspects of the home in Indonesia, this study intends to make a chronological reflection on the Indonesian government's policy in residential indoor air quality. This study raised and analyzed several questions in the national and local context from the previous research. The government's various policies and regulations are chronologically listed to see the development and look for regulatory or implementation gaps. The indicators of insufficient ventilation and indoor air quality in much Indonesian urban housing have been shown in previous studies, encouraging this study to be necessary. This study used a chronological review using national and international journals. Previous studies have shown possibilities to estimate the landscape of indoor pollution exposure effectively using a socio-economic approach as a part. The latest national housing survey results can be used as references to discover the housing landscape status in Indonesia for further research suggestions.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a global challenge towards diminishing quality of life. Health related quality of life (HRQoL) is a widely accepted measure of burden of disease for individuals with chronic conditions. Due to paucity of data in Western Rajasthan, India, this study was planned to assess the HRQoL due to NCDs in Jodhpur, India. A descriptive cross-sectional study was planned in government NCD center of Jodhpur. Convenience sampling was used to select 398 respondents and socio demographic data was collected. Short Form–36 (SF-36) questionnaire was used to measure perceived effects due to NCDs across eight domains of analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. High combined mean scores were obtained in domains of Social Functioning (77.87) and Mental Health (75.36%) and lowest scores for General Health (54.70%), Bodily Pain (60.06%) and Role Emotional (60.33%). Males recorded higher mean scores than females across all domains with high statistical significance for Bodily Pain, Vitality, Role Physical and Mental Health. Findings suggested worst and least affected domains of regular life functions due to NCDs. Greater focus on emotional distress, active inclusion of females in national health programmes and integration of NCD control program with Mental Health Program would aid to improve overall HRQoL in affected individuals.

Abstract

Filipino youths are the hope of Philippine society. However, cigarette smoking and binge drinking continually corrupt this aspiration. Mental health states interplay with the growing setback of substance consumption. The main objective of the study is to determine the efficacy of the multimodal intervention program among the participants in this study.  Specifically, it answers the following objectives: i) Develop an intervention program to address the high anxiety, mild depression, and normal self-esteem of the participants and ii) Determine the significant difference between the control group and the experimental group in the pre-test and post-test intervention measures. A matched-group experimental design was carried out among the participants who were randomly assigned to the control group and the experimental group.  There were forty participants who met the criteria set by the researchers.  When the multimodal intervention program was tested using t-test to analyze the findings at .05 level, it yielded significant results. Based on the findings of the study, the developed multimodal intervention program appeared to be effective. A follow-up study may be conducted to further test the efficacy.
