Abstract

In this research, we investigated the external validity of WAIS-IV-ID using other intelligence tests and educational achievement as criteria. We had 194 participants in total. The results showed the Full-Scale IQ score (FSIQ) of the WAIS-IV-ID had moderate yet significant correlation with three intelligence tests, namely Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM, n = 194), Cattell’s Culture Fair Intelligence Test (CFIT, n = 134), and the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale (WBIS, n = 44). There was also a significant positive correlation between the FSIQ and educational achievement score, the Grade Point Average (GPA, n = 51). The four indexes of the WAIS-IV-ID had a significant positive correlation with the SPM, CFIT, and WBIS, except for Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI). We found significant correlations between full-scale IQ with GPA. For the index score, we found significant correlations between Processing Speed Index (PSI) with GPA. We conclude that the WAIS-IV-ID is valid externally.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between depression and some aspects of the quality of life. As additional data, the researchers sought connections between demographic factors and the quality of life. This research used measurement implements in the form of the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) and the LupusQoL. The participants involved in the research were 49 females aged between 18 and 45 years. The results of the research indicated that depression has a significant relationship with all aspects of quality of life, with the exception of the aspect of body image. The greater the depression, the worse the quality of life. Conversely, the lighter the depression, the better the quality of life. Besides this, the research also indicated a significant difference in aspects of the quality of life, on the basis of demographic factors. The conclusion from the research is that depression is an important matter for attention. By overcoming depression, a number of aspects of the quality of life of people with Lupus/SLE may be improved.

Abstract

The field of transportation psychology has yet to develop rapidly in Indonesia. Inner city transportation council members with an educational background in psychology are still quite rare. There is only one professor in transportation psychology. On the other hand, transportation problem increases in both quantity and quality, especially in major cities. One main source of transportation problem in cities is the lack of willingness of people to use mass public transport vehicle, resulting in traffic jams in main roads to other alternative roads. The current theoretical review article aims to show the various psychological variables that are capable of predicting motives and intentions of individuals to use mass public transport vehicle. Such psychological knowledge is expected to contribute as a possible suggestion of an intervention supporting the effort of the government in the development of transportation facilities and infrastructure, transport regulations, and economic policies related to transportation.

Abstract

Being a pastor is a challenging life calling, not only in terms of duties and responsibilities, but also due to the lifestyle “demands”. On a personal level, a pastor is an individual who still needs to take care of their own welfare as well as being cared for. The current study is a qualitative research that aims to understand the psychological well-being dynamics of pastors. There are two informants in this study. Results showed that factors supporting the psychological well-being of the two pastors are self-determination, skill and positive values acquired from the seminary, adaptive coping strategies, and social support.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine whether prejudice was the mediator between ethnocentrism and interethnic discrimination. A survey was conducted at a university in Surabaya which has a multicultured student population (N = 300) recruited using incidental sampling. Data were collected using discrimination, ethnocentrism, and prejudice questionnaires. The hypothesis was tested using regression analysis with simple mediation. Results showed that prejudice was the mediator between ethnocentrism and discrimination (t = 12.637; p < .01); meanwhile ethnocentrism was not a predictor of discrimination when prejudice was controlled (t = 1.444; p > .05). Results also provide a suggestion to ethnic group members to be more open and control their prejudice toward other ethnic groups in order to grow positive inter-ethnic relationships.

Abstract

The purpose of this study are: firstly, to determine the effect of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) on the verbal communication skills of senior high school adolescent with intellectual disability; secondly, to determine the verbal communication apprehension in of senior high school adolescents with intellectual disability before and after PECS treatment; thirdly, to determine the difference verbal communication apprehension of senior high school adolescents with intellectual disability as revealed by sexes. Experimental design for verbal communication skills used Analysis of Covariance with Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) based on six phases of pre- and post-test. Senior high school student from class X-XII (n = 13) became sample of this research. Questionnaire used was in the form of the Measure of Elementary Commu-nication Apprehension (MECA) questionnaire while the data analysis used Analysis Cova-riance for verbal communication skill, t-paired test for verbal communication apprehension, and verbal communication apprehension between sex were analyzed by t-test with a 5% level of significance. The results showed that: (1) PECS can improve the verbal communication skills between phases of PECS with the effectiveness as follows: 105.14%, 18.49%, and 43.11%; (2) PECS have not affected the verbal communication apprehension of senior high school adolescents with intellectual disability (tcale = - 0.305 < ttable = - 1.771); and (3) There is no significant differences in verbal communication apprehension of senior high school adolescents with intellectual disability based on sexes (tcale = 0.232 < ttable = 2.342).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the correlation between the theoretical model of the organization’s capability contribution, participation, and the climate of change to the commit-ment to change. Subjects were Islamic University lecturers in Indonesia who experienced the organizational change. Findings reveal (a) the theoretical model designed in this study fitted the empirical data; (b) the determination coefficient (R2) of the commitment to change was 15.1%, which showed that 15.1% of the commitment to change can be explained or predicted through the organization’s capability, participation, the climate of change and the open-mindedness to changes variables; (c) the model was acceptable based on the fit model test with 60.785 chi-square value and .275 (> .05) probability, the CFI value was .997 (almost 1), and the RMSEA value was .022 (< .08). This study has found out the determining theoretical model of the commitment to change based on the organization’s capability, participation, the climate of change, and the open-mindedness to changes’ roles in establishing the commitment to change. The open-mindedness to changes as a mediator is significant, because without the mediator, the organization’s capability, participation, and the climate of change have no effects to the commitment to change.

Abstract

In the middle years of marriage, marital satisfaction tends to decline, particularly among wives because of their caregiving roles for children and parents (transgenerational squeeze), and because their husbands focus more on their work. This may weaken love despite that love can provide happiness and lead to marital satisfaction. This study examined the relationships between love and marital satisfaction and determined which components of love that had the highest correlation with marital satisfaction. Data collected using questionnaires. Results showed that love had a positive relationship with wives’ marital satisfaction in the middle years of marriage (p < .001). The components of love having significant relationships with marital satisfaction from the highest to the lowest correlation were intimacy, commitment, and passion.

Abstract

Counterproductive work behavior (CWB) is work behavior that violates the rules/norms (written or unwritten) that could potentially harm an organization or members of an organization. This study aimed to explain CWB based on the condition of the quality of work life (QWL). CWB can be negative behavior towards co-workers/supervisors/subordinates in the workplace (CWB-I) and can be either negative behavior towards tasks/rules/organizational system (CWB-O). Participants in this study were the members of National Police. The number of participants was 305 people. Based on the analysis, the better the quality of relationships with supervisors (supervisory), the implementation of work culture (constitutionalism), the quality of relationships with co-workers (co-worker), and the quality of tasks/responsibilities (promotion), the lower the CWB-I. Meanwhile, the lower levels of CWB-O were predicted by the promotion of quality of relationships with supervisors (supervisory). The study raised a further question concerning why the higher quality of/balance between work and private life (work life balance) led into the higher levels of CWB-I.

Abstract

The Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing states that there are five resources for evidence of validity which need to be examined in the evaluation of a measurement implement. The aim of this study is to evaluate the validity of the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) - Short Indonesian Language Version. The three stages of this study were conducted over differing time periods, as well as differing resources of evidence of validity. In the first stage, the only resource of evidence of validity used was in the form of testing for reliability and correlation between the items, which aimed at determining just which items would be utilized in the short version. Meanwhile, with the second and third stages, after the items had been reduced, evaluation was conducted based on two resources of evidence of validity, the internal structure, covering reliability testing and analysis of confirmatory factors, and resources of evidence of connections to other variables. Results of the reliability testing showed an alpha Cronbach value of more than 0.7, with corrected item total correlation of all items above 0.3 Results of factor analysis also indicated that all items grouped within its dimension, as well as the results of correlation analysis also indicating results in accord with earlier pieces of research. It may be concluded that the Academic Motivation Scale-Short Indonesian Version may be considered to be a reliable measurement instrument to measure academic motivation.
