Abstract

Kemuning’s plantations in Karang Anyar Regency are famous for their lush tea plantations and good quality. Tea leaves contain several substances including flavonoids, 30- 40% polyphenols, caffeine, essential oils and tannins. The famous tea leaf polyphenols are catechins. Catechins have properties as antidiarrheal, antibacterial, especially against Staphyloccocus aureus bacteria, which is one of the gram-positive bacteria that cause infections in the skin. Based on this, tea leaf extract can be used as a natural supplement in the manufacture of transparent soap products. In this study tea leaf extract became one of the components in making transparent soap by adding tea leaf extract to formula 1 (0%), formula 2 (1.5%), formula 3 (3%) and formula 4 (4, 5%). Then transparent soap preparations were tested for organoleptic and quality quality including moisture and vaporizing soap content, amount of fatty acids, free alkali content and levels of unbunned fractions and anti-bacterial activity against the growth of Staphyloccocus aureus bacteria. Based on the results of the study, it was found that transparent 4 solid soap with 4.5% tea leaf extract content had the darkest color of solid soap, evaporated water and substance content, free alkali content, fatty acid, acidity level (pH), unbonded fraction level and the highest foam stability. Formula 4 solid soap also has the best inhibitory power against the growth of Staphyloccocus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Mint is one of the essential oil-producing plants. Essential oils of Mentha spicata L or spearmint are widely used as raw materials in the food, beverage and pharmaceutical preparations industries. The main components of spearmint are karvon, limonen, cineol, dihydrocarvol, myrcene, and 0.5% menthol. The components contained in spearmint have properties as herbal remedies. Plant cultivation greatly determined the results of standardized drug ingredients. Cultivation with the right planting system can affect the quality of simplicia. This research were a descriptive study to differentiate the quality of plants. This study aimed to determine differences in plant morphology, chromatogram profile and levels of spearmint essential oil between hydroponic and conventional planting systems. Observation of plant morphology includes the size, color of the stem and leaves. Essential oil content is calculated from refined oil by steam and water distillation method. Spearmint oil was analyzed on thin layer chromatography methode using the silica gel F254 as a stationary phase and hexane-ethyl acetate (8: 2) as a mobile phase, with spot visualization under UV254 and anisaldehyde-H2SO4 . The results showed that the morphology of Mentha spicata L with hydrophonic planting systems had a bigger size in stem and leaves, but the leaves had more bright green than a conventional plant. The chromatogram profile did not show differences in the number of spots and Rf. Mentha spicata L with conventional planting systems had a sharper intensity of color on one of the volatile oil spot, and suggested due to menthol. The levels volatile oil of Mentha spicata L hydroponic and conventional were determined as 0.0326% and 0.0323% . The Independent T-test analysis showed that there were not a significant differences.

Abstract

Rosuvastatin calcium is a salt form of rosuvastatin with antilipidemia activity. Rosuvastatin Calcium classified in class two of Biopharmaceutics Clasification System (BCS) has low solubility in water (17.96 mg / L) and high permeability. Based on this, rosuvastatin calcium needs to be formulated appropriately in order to produce high bioavailability and maximum therapeutic effect. The bioavailability of BCS 2 drug is determined by the dissolution rate of the drug in gastrointestinal fluid so that a technique is needed in formulating the drug. This study aims to develop a formulation technique for rosuvastatin calcium tablets through liquisolid technique and formation of inclusion complexes with β-cyclodextrin in order to increase the rate of dissolution. Tablet formulation with liquisolid technique was made with a concentration of 10% rosuvastatin calcium in propylene glycol, with a ratio of US2® (carrier) and Aerosil 200 (coating) made with a ratio of 10: 1 and 20: 1. In addition to the formulation with liquisolid technique, formulations were also carried out with the complex inclusion technique of rosuvastatin calcium-β-cyclodextrin using kneading method and freeze drying method with a mol ratio of 1: 1 and 1: 2. The liquisolid system and inclusion complexes formed were characterized using FTIR and SEM. Characterization results indicated changes in the form of polymorphous rosuvastatin calcium. Tablet formulations were made by direct compression using a liquisolid system and an inclusion complex equivalent to 10 mg of rosuvastatin calcium. Based on the results of the ANOVA statistical test and further LSD tests showed that calcium rosuvastatin tablets made with liquisolid and inclusion complexes can increase the dissolution rate compared to pure rosuvastatin calcium tablets and inovator rosuvastatin calcium tablets. The highest dissolution rate was produced by liquisolid R20: 1 tablet at 60 minutes at 85.53 ± 1.02% in an enzyme-free simulated gastric fluid dissolution medium and 110.02 ± 1.71% in an enzyme-free simulated intestinal fluid dissolution medium.
