Abstract

One of the causes of infection was bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus. Torch ginger has been widely used to treat dwaseases caused by bacteria. Torch ginger has been studied to have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The purpose of thwas study was to formulate an ointment preparation of ethanol extract of torch ginger and to see if the ointment preparations had antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The research method used in thwas research was experimental True, covering the stages: making of ethanol extract of kecombrang flower with maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent, ointment formulation made with ointment base: vaseline, adeps lanae, and propylene glycol. Made in three concentrations of extracts namely: F I with 100 mg, F II with 200 mg, and F III with 300 mg. Furthermore, the evaluation of the preparation of evaluation of physical stability and homogeneity, and test of antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with diffusion method to use Kirby odor dwasc paper. The results showed that the ointment had good physical stability and homogeneity for 30 days of storage at room temperature. The antibacterial activity test of the ointment shows that the inhibitory diameter F I has an average of 16.45 mm, F II has an average of 18.60 mm and F III has an average of 21.12 mm. Based on the results obtained it can be concluded that the preparation of the ethanol extract of torch ginger has an inhibitory power to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In the next research was expected to pay attention to the growing area of torch ginger and to compare the antibacterial activity between petal flowers and flower seeds using Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Red Galangal (Alpinia purpurata K. Schum) and turmeric (Curcuma Domestica Val.) plant are icluded in the Zingeberaceae family. The utilization of parts of red galangal and turmeric plants such as rhizomes can be used as medicine. The objective of research is to determine the antibacterial activity of red galangal and turmeric leaves extracts. Examination of simplicia characteristics include : macroscopic, microscopic examinations, determination of water content, determination of ash content. Phytochemical screening includes examination of classes of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, tannins and steroids/triterpenoids. The extraction was done by maceration using 96% ethanol as solvent. The antibacterial activity by agar diffusion method to using paper discs against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureusbacteria. Simplex characterization for red galangal dan turmeric were showed water level of red galangal is 4,73% and turmeric is 6,83%. Ash content of red galangal is 3,64% and turmeric is 5,45%. The results of phytochemical screening of red galangal is alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, tannins and steroids/triterpenoids. Turmeric is alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins, tannins. The results of antibacterial activity test showed that there were antibacterial differences of leaf extract of red galangal ant turmeric leaves in which turmeric leaves were more effective against Escherichia coli and Staphyloccus aureus than red galangal.

Abstract

Disinfectant products distributed in Lubuk Pakam vary in types from different manufacturers. The disinfectant ingredients are phenol and quartenary ammonium. The potency of disinfectant for killing microorganisms needs to be evaluated to assure the quality of the products. This study was carried out to determine the effectivity of disinfectant products based on phenol coefficient. Phenol coefficient testing of disinfectant products was microbiologically performed against Salmonella typhi. The disinfectant solutions were prepared by diluting the sample in sterile distilled water in ratio of 1:5, 1:10, 1:20, 1:30, 1:40, and 1:50. Phenol solution (5%, w/v) was used as disinfectant standard. The growth of bacteria was observed at the exposure time of 5, 10, and 15 minutes. The results indicated that the phenol coefficient of product A, B, C, D, E, F, and G were 2.38, 2.00, 3.00, 3.38, 2.38, 2.63, and 3.00, respectively. Statistical analysis using Kruskal-Wallis test showed that the quality of desinfectant products was significantly different (p < 0.05). This study revealed that product A, B, C, D, E, F and G distributed in many supermarket of Lubuk Pakam fulfilled the requirement of disinfectant activity. Product that contain HCl had the strongest activity than other disinfectant products.

Abstract

Immunomodulator is a compound that can increaase the imuno system. One of the plants that have immunomodulator’s activity is Herba Binara (Artemisia vulgaris L.). the purpose of this research was to test the effect of immunomodulator by extract of herba binara ethanol on rat male. The activity of immunomodulator was determined by using digital pletysmometer by measuring the differences between the last leg swelling’s volume and the first leg swelling’s volume. The treatment group were divided into 5 groups. Each group consistof 5 rats CMC-Na 0,5% (negative control), Imboost 32,5 mg/kgBW (positive control), dose of EEHB 50, 100, 200 mg/kgBW, and bacteria E.coli as antigen. The results slowed that distribution of EEHB dose 200 mg/kgBW can give the effect of immunostimulant by swelling enthancement compared by CMC-Na 0,5 %. EEHB 200 mg/kgBW that have activity comparable with Imboost 32,5 mg/kgBW. Thus, it is concluded that of herba binara extract has immunomodulator effects on delayed-type hypersensitivity response of rat male.

Abstract

Morinda plants grow widely throughout the Pasipic and are one of the most significant sources of traditional medicine among the Pacific island community. Morindas contain natural antioxidants for skin health and saponins in the manufacture of soap. Morindas also has potential as an antibacterial (Flavanoid). The purpose of this research is to formulate the ethanol extract of the fruit of morinda (Morinda citrifolia L.) fresh bath soap. Preparations to become solid. This research uses experimental methods. Morinda fruit is extracted by a process of maceration. Solid bath soap preparations inspection conducted this research is test the pH with a concentration of 2,5%, 3,5% and 4,5%. Ethanol extract of the fruit of morindas can be preparations soap formulations in bath with solid inspection results show pH, pH range between 8,5-10,1 show that the solid bath soaps are qualified solid bath soap. The result showed solid bath soap preparations from ethanol extract of the fruit of morinda (Morinda citrifolia L.) fresh with variations in defferent concentrations can be formulated in to a solid bath soap.
