The journal publishes research papers in the all the fields of language, language teaching, and linguistics such as, Phonetics and Phonology, Morphology, Lexicology, Syntax and Language Typology, Semantic, Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, Grammar Analysis, Historical Linguistics, Dialectology and Language Evolution, Applied Linguistics, Biolinguistics, Clinical Linguistics, Neurolinguistics, Computational Linguistics, Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Forensic Linguistics, Language Teaching, Language Development, Translation, and other related studies of language. Since 2017, all papers submitted to the journal should be written in good English. Authors for whom English is not their native language are encouraged to have their paper checked before submission for grammar and clarity. English language and copyediting services can be provided by English Faculty . The work should not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. The official language of the manuscript to be published in journal Lingua is English. Lingua Journal is published two times a year by English Education Study Program Faculty of Teaching and Educational Sciences As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University of Jakarta. The journal welcomes articles on English language teaching and research. Articles should be in English, typed double-spaced on quarto-size paper. Abstract

The purpose of this research was investigating of applying graphic organizers strategy on grade ten students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMA Martia Bhakti Bekasi, particularly to find out whether or not graphic organizers has significance effect on students’ vocabulary acquisition. The population of this research was the students on grade ten at SMA Martia Bhakti Bekasi, with the total number 225 students. Samples were gotten by adoptingcluster random sampling with the total number 60 students who is sitting on 2 classes. One of classes was assigned to an experimental group, whose students were taught using the GO strategy with five specific features of vocabulary items, they are definition, synonym, antonym, example, and using it in an example sentences. While the other class was assigned to be control group, whose students were taught with the same vocabulary items using conventional strategy. The research methodology used quasi experiment method and the research design adopted post test only control group design. After gave the treatment to the experiment and control groups, the post testwas conductedformeasuringeffectivenessof the treatment, numbering 30 items. At the end of the session, the data was analyzed using SPSS v. 21. The researcher used One-Way ANOVA for analysis. The result showed that the F observed is higher than F table (4.00, come from significant level 0.05 and df= 1/58). It means that graphic organizers strategy has significant effect on students’ vocabulary acquisition.

Abstract

This research entitled “Studying the Relationship between Text Comprehension Ability and Grade Ten Students’ Vocabulary Acquisition in Narrative Text at SMK BHAKTI PERASADA, Bekasi” principally aims to investigate whether or not relationship between Text Comprehension Ability and grade ten Students’ Vocabulary acquisition in Narrative Text. The research samples were taken using cluster random sampling, with the total number of samples being 36 students. The location of this research was SMK BHAKTI PERSADA, Bekasi, conducted from 15th to 22nd November 2016. The research methodology adopted was the quantitative, correlational research. With the research design being ex post facto(after the fact).To collect data, the students were given objective test, numbering 68 items. The research data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The findings indicated that there was significant relationship between text comprehension ability and grade ten students’ vocabulary acquisition in narrative text at SMK BHAKTI PERSADA, Bekasi. It can be seen from the data analysis using Pearson’s Product Momentthat showed tobserved (4.93), which was higher than the critical value of ttable(at the significant level of 0.05 and df = 1/35), namely 2.03. It means that text comprehension ability has significant correlation with vocabulary acquisition in narrative text.

Abstract

This research principally aims to investigate whether or not word list on the word wall significantly affects students’ vocabulary learning result. The research samples were taken using cluster random sampling, with the total number of samples being 70 students. The location of this research was SMPN 198 Jakarta. The research methodology adopted was quasi-experiment method with the research design being posttest only control group design. To collect the data, the students were given objective test, numbering 50 items. The research data were analyzed by using ONE-WAY ANOVA. The findings indicated that there was significant difference of post-test score between the students who received Word List Word Wall Strategy and students who did not receive Word List on the Word Wall. The writer found the significant level (Sig) in line with the ANOVA statistic was 0.000 which was lower than 0.05 means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted.it means that Word List on the Word Wall Strategy has significant effect on students’ vocabulary learning result.

Abstract

This research principally aims to find out whether or not there is significance effect of using flashcard on students’ vocabulary acquisition. the research was conducted from 3th to 29th November 2016 at SMPN 45 Bekasi, in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.The research methodology adopted was quasi experimental method, with the research design being randomized post test only control group design. The statistic method used to analyze the data was ANOVA using SPSS through the testing of Null Hypothesis, which was preceded by the normality and homogeneity test as the pre-requisite to the data analysis. The result of ANOVA showed significance value was 0,000, which was lower than 0,05, and that Fobserved ( 35,926 ), which was higher than the critical value of Ftable (at the significance level of 0.05 and df = 1/58, namely 3.982. Accordingly, the Null Hypothesis (Ho), stating that there is no effect using flashcards on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi, was rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha), stating that there is significance effect using flashcards on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi was accepted.On the basis of the rejection of Ho and acceptance of HA, it can be concluded that flashcards has significance effect on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi. In other words, the research has empirically proved that there is significance effect of using flashcard on students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMPN 45 Bekasi.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of using collaborative dialogue technique on EFL learner’s vocabulary acquisition at SMA Tunas Markatin Rawamangun. The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not there is the effect of using collaborative dialogue technique on students’ vocabulary acquisition. The subject consisted 50 students and divided into two classes (experimental class and control class), consist of 25 students in each class. The sampling technique was randomize sampling. To collect data the researcher used two instruments in the form of objective multiple choice each numbering 30 for both experiment class and control class out of 60 question items for experiment class and control class having been tried out at class X at SMA Vinama, Bekasi. The score obtained from the try out class were used to analyze the validity, reliability, discrimination power and difficulty index of each question item in the two instruments. The analysis using SPSS-based One-Way Anova formula produced significance (Sig) value of 0.000. Since the significant value was smaller than (<) Alpha 0, 05, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Accordingly the research concluded that there was significant effect of collaborative dialogue on grade ten students’ vocabulary acquisition at SMA Tunas Markatin, Rawamangun in the academic Year of 2016/2017.

Abstract

This research entitled “Investigating The Effect of Drama as Teaching Technique on Grade Eight Students’ Vocabulary Acquisition at MTs Assyairiyah Attahiriyah Jakarta” principally aims to investigate whether or not drama technique significantly affects students’ vocabulary acquisition. The research samples were taken using cluster random sampling, with the total number of samples being 60 students. The location of this research was MTs Assyairiyah Attahiriyah Jakarta. The research methodology adopted was quasi-experiment method, with the research design being post test only control group design. To collect the data, the students were given the objective test, numbering 30 items. The research data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The findings indicated that there was significant difference of post-test score between the students who received drama technique and students who did not receive drama technique. It can be seen from the data analysis using ANOVA that showed Fobserved (90.988) is higher than the critical value of Ftable (at the significant level of 0.05 and df = 1/84), namely 3.96. it means that drama technique has significant effect on students’ vocabulary acquisition.
