Abstract

Mathematics is a special subject that cut across every other subject and every aspect of human life and serves as a clue in solving real-life problems. Teaching mathematics with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materials might bring tremendous progress in the field of mathematics learning. This is activity-based which makes all students in mathematics class participate fully and contribute to learning. The opinion of secondary school students on ICT use, what is expected from them, and the motivation encountered in mathematics class was investigated. Three hundred (300) secondary school II learners were selected randomly from six secondary schools in Educational District II in Lagos state. The instrument used was based on Mathematics Teaching with ICT (MTICT), this was divided into different sections Student Perceived Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, Facilitating Conditions, and Student Motivation. The data were analyzed with percentages and mean. From the result, the use of ICT in teaching secondary school mathematics enhanced the performance expectancy, create more motivation and the social influence from peers, friends, colleagues, and society members contribute immensely to the encouragement of the student in ICT use for studying mathematics. Therefore, ICT should be used in secondary school mathematics teaching.

Abstract

This study unraveled the challenges of a teenage mother while studying as a senior high school student amidst the tremors of the pandemic. In doing so, a qualitative narrative research design was used in gathering the data, and an unstructured interview was done with the main participant. The listed responses were scrutinized to formulate a general conclusion regarding the overall condition of the teenage mother. Based on the findings, it was revealed that the teenage student-mother is prone to conflicts, and to combat these conflicts, perseverance along with hard work is a must. For the most part, it has been established that the amount of support received by the teenage student-mother is one of the major reasons that contribute to their overall state because in every aspect of life they are involved in, their children will always be a part of them because they are the utmost priority of these teenage student-mothers. In general, the researchers concluded that in the participant’s time in distance learning, her parenting was not affected that much by her school work. With this being said, her positive attitude towards her grueling circumstance led to her overall success in both her motherly and academic duties. She was able to continue her studies and take care of her child all at once because of the new learning environment brought out by distance learning.

Abstract

This study aims to educate Titi Laras Damina's learning in Kartika Senior High School students. The research was conducted on representatives of 10 grade-11 social studies students through 3 stages, namely (i) pre-test; (ii) theoretical and practical education using the Direct Instruction method; and (iii) post-test. The results showed that the average pretest theoretical value was 71 and the posttest average was 96.5. The results of the comparison of the pretest and posttest did not significantly increase after the learning was carried out. The results of the N-Gain calculation show that the average N-Gain value is 34% (N-Gain 40%) indicating that Titi Laras Damina's learning is theoretically ineffective for Senior High School students in grade 11 social studies. This is due to the comparison of pre-test scores. and the post-test was not so high and the students' knowledge was sufficient of Titi Laras theory. Practically there is a significant improvement because before learning students have not been able to mention the notes in each barrel. However, after learning using the direct instruction method there is an increase in musicality in students. Students can now say the notes in each barrel after it has been held. From this research, it is hoped that students can master the knowledge of Titi Laras Damina in theory and practice.

Abstract

Scientific literacy (LS) is the ability to engage with science-related issues, and with the ideas of science, as a reflective citizen. Thus, some developed countries provide policies, making that LS capabilities are provided to school curricula. However, some research reveals that this alleged ability has not been optimally provided in science learning, thus, students' LS abilities are still low. Pre-experimental research with a one-group pre-test-post-test design aims to get an overview of increasing LS capabilities in the competency domain through the application of a scientific approach. The study was conducted in one of the public schools in the city of Bandung using 30 samples taken randomly. The effectiveness of the increase was measured using the normalized gain value g on 20 essay questions with validity test results of 0.77, and reliability of 0.87. The results showed an increase in the K1 aspect (explaining scientific phenomena) g= 0.75 (high category), an increase in the K2 aspect (evaluating and designing scientific research) g= 0.46 (medium category), while an increase in the K3 aspect (interpreting data and evidence) g= 0.15 (low category). This shows the need for a mentorship process to build epistemic knowledge in analyzing and inferring experimental data in a scientific approach.

Abstract

The study determined the level of test anxiety among secondary school students in Ilesa East Local Government Area (LGA) of Osun State, Nigeria. It also examined the association between students’ demographic factors and test anxiety in the study area. The study population comprised all Senior Secondary School (SSS) III students in the LGA. A sample of 240 students was selected by stratified sampling technique using school ownership (public and private) as a stratum. An adapted questionnaire titled Students’ Test and Examination Anxiety Measure (STEAM) was used to collect data for the study. The result showed that 50.8% of the respondents had a low level of test anxiety while 49.2% of respondents have a high level of test anxiety, and there was no statistically significant influence on students’ gender (Wald Χ2 = 0.000, p 0.05) on test anxiety. The study concluded that test anxiety is a physiological condition commonly exhibited by students irrespective of gender. It is recommended that any policy intervention programme to be developed either by the government or private organizations must not be gender biased.

The method used is a quantitative method with an experimental research design. The intended target is elementary school students in grade 5. The subject is 20 students in one class. The research was carried out in 3 stages, (i) pre-test, (ii) education using lecture and picture methods about fast food and healthy food, and the last one was (iii) post-test were the questions given were the same questions as the pre-test. After being educated about healthy nutritious food and fast food, the results showed quite different results from the previous results, which increased by 9% from 71.25 to 81.25%. The ineffectiveness of this method was influenced by the pretest scores of respondents which are already large enough. Thus, the increase is not so large. With the results obtained from the research that has been carried out, it is hoped that school-age children can be better informed about the importance of a balanced intake of healthy food and fast food consumed by children.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the reason for the impact of the increase in enthusiasm for learning in the transition period of online to offline learning. This research was conducted on 12 students from State Junior High School 12 Bandung, Indonesia, who came from grades 7, 8, and 9. This research was conducted using a qualitative method with 3 stages, namely (i) the dissemination of the pre-test questionnaire, (ii) the provision of education to increase the enthusiasm for learning with video media, and (iii) the dissemination of the questionnaire post-test. The results obtained in the form of the average value of the pretest was 52.5 and the average post-test was 87.5 which showed that the student's post-test score increased significantly. This is due to the lack of education of students on the spirit of learning, and they are not used to offline learning. From the results of the study, it can be interpreted that the provision of education to increase the enthusiasm for learning in the transition period of online to offline learning with video media is influential and effectively used on students. This research is expected to have an impact on increasing student enthusiasm for learning which will affect student learning outcomes.
