Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic brought drastic changes in various institutions worldwide. It catalysed the implementation of new-normal learning through alternative learning modalities. This descriptive phenomenological study aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities encountered by working students during the pandemic. The researchers have purposively chosen nine (9) working students from a public state university using criteria. A written interview questionnaire was utilized to gather data, which the researchers sent to the informants through the Messenger application. The informants were instructed to answer the question using the Gibbs’ Reflective Model as a guide, where they needed to elaborate the description of their experience, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. The gathered data were analyzed using thematic data analysis. The results included themes such as themes (1) challenges perceived and (2) opportunities gained while working and studying. Further, the researchers generated six (6) categories from the analyzed data. It revealed that working students during the pandemic encounter challenges since they (1) recognize emotional and physical-self limitations and (2) experience lesser in-person connection and mobilization. Regardless, they gained opportunities (3) to develop character and skills, (4) in their finances, (5) to establish a positive outlook, and (6) to develop coping mechanisms. Thus, working students encounter obstacles in this new normal yet obtain benefits integral to their education and personal development.

Abstract

This research is a development carried out to produce a product in the form of a teaching material model with the PBL model of IPS content independent curriculum for students in elementary school. Based on the theoretical studies and field studies carried out, initially a draft teaching material package model was produced with the PBL model of independent curriculum IPS content, which contains identification of SK and KD, identification of indicators, identification of learning objectives. Furthermore, the teaching materials are reflected and revised according to user needs and expert input to obtain the final product. This development is carried out based on the plomp model which emphasizes the needs of users according to the context (teachers and students), meaning that the packages and development models are developed collaboratively (active user involvement) in selected environments. Products are revised based on authentic process data according to user needs (process/formative evaluation), expert tests and small group tests are carried out to perfect the product (summative evaluation). The results of the validation of model teaching materials with the PBL model of independent curriculum IPS content show that the developed teaching materials have been declared valid with an average of 3.75 reaching a percentage of 93.75% with a very valid category, declared practical and effective.

Abstract

The KTSP curriculum included in the 2013 curriculum as a complement to the previous curriculum is expected to change the perspective of educators in managing, planning and developing learning in the classroom. IPS learning. Student learning activities are not focused on finding a concept but rather on memorizing it, and book-based learning does not foster critical thinking skills. Therefore we need a Problem Solving learning model as a learning model that can help. students develop their Higher-Order Thinking Skills. The purpose of this research is to ascertain how social studies teaching in elementary schools incorporates HOTS-oriented problem solving. Qualitative literature review was conducted as a research method. Documentation study is a data collection technique, and involves examining the contents of documents related to the research subject. This research can be used as a reference for elementary school teachers to implement learning in their classes. As a result, teachers can use it to overcome learning challenges.

Abstract

Social studies learning is a lesson in people's lives that can be used as a source of social life for the benefit of learning by using social science concepts. The first reason underlying this is because of the empirical background. Students in the class are in the early age range who still see everything as a whole so that their learning still depends on concrete objects and the experiences they experience. The second reason, namely the implementation of learning in SD which is separate for each subject will result in less developing children to think holistically. The third reason is that there are problems in the early and high grades. In addition, the approach or learning method used by teachers tends to emphasize the use of the lecture method and skills in using technology that are not optimal as learning tools or media in class, thus making learning monotonous and students bored and there is still a lack of research being conducted. The aim is to determine the quality of social studies learning for fifth grade students at SDN 15 Patamuan by applying the webbed-type thematic learning model assisted by motion media technology, knowing the quality of social studies learning for fifth grade students at SDN 15 Patamuan by applying the webbed-type thematic learning model assisted by technology without using motion media and can determine the differences in the quality of social studies learning.

Abstract

During the pandemic, distance learning was thought to be more effective and efficient. In light of this situation, online learning requires learning readiness because of changes in the way students learn. At SMPN 36 Sarolangun, Jambi, the goal of this study is to find out how students’ readiness of learning English processes during the new normal. In this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive research method. The participants in this study were eighth-grade students at SMPN 36 Sarolangun Jambi. The purpose of this study was to describe students' readiness for a new normal of learning. The researcher chose the sample by looking for students who studied using blended learning. Purposive sampling was used in this research. The researcher found that the school had delivered subject matter online and offline, therefore, the researcher was interested in doing research at that school, which students still did not understand. In this case, the researcher found a problem in that students could not understand the material clearly when school became normal. Students have not been able to concentrate during the teaching and learning process, but there are still a small number of students who concentrate during the learning process. Readiness to learn can be seen in the reactions of most students because they have not been able to ask the teacher during lessons and have not been able to express ideas to the teacher.
