Abstract

Introduction: Study showed that 53% of health sciences students experience stress during the learning process. There has never been any previous research that focused on measuring the effect of Dhikr as a part of independent nursing intervention: Spiritual Support to reduce stress in health sciences students. Aim of this study was to measure stress decreased in health sciences students who were treated using Dhikr. Methods: This research used quasi experimental with pre and post test nonequivalent control group design. We chose Moslem students in health sciences faculty and used quota sampling technique before divided them into two groups: 20 respondents in each of control and intervention groups. Dhikr was given to the treatment group for two sessions, while the control group did not get any therapy. Paired T-Test was used to see stress scores differences in pre and post test of each group, while Mann Whitney test was used to see differences in stress scores deviation between both group. Results: The results showed that Dhikr could decreased stress intervention group (p value 0.000). Stress score mean in pre test was 18.60, while in post test was 11.10 or decreased by 7.5 points. Stress score mean in the control group increased by 3.1 points (p value 0.024). Conclusions: We conclude that Dhikr therapy can be part of independent nursing intervention: Spiritual Support to health sciences students in Indonesia who are predominantly Moslem.

Abstract

Introduction: Recurrence is an issue encountered by patients with stroke in Indonesia. Stroke recurrence might occur due to the patient’s inability to perform secondary prevention, particularly the non-pharmacological one, by changing their lifestyle. Many patients with stroke are known to survive longer with no recurrence. This research aimed to explore the experience of the patient with stroke and success in stroke recurrence prevention. Methods: This was a qualitative study using a descriptive exploratory method. Eight post-stroke patients who met the inclusion criteria participated in this research. The data were collected using an in-depth interview. The data were then analyzed using Giorgi method. Results: From the data analysis, it was found these stroke patients could survive without experiencing any recurrence in a certain period of time thanks to some reasons which could be classified in four themes, namely: 1) having a good food management habit, 2) having a good physical exercise/activity habit, 3) using traditional medicine instead of conventional medicine, and 4) there are some factors influencing successful management of stroke recurrence prevention. Conclusions: Patients with stroke, have a good experience and good habits to prevent their stroke recurrence, but they still have a misperception about convention medicine. This result shows the importance of the ability to manage recurrence risk factors in post-stroke patients, to prevent them from having a recurrence. Need further research on the use of traditional medicine in a stroke patient.

Abstract

Introduction: The number of patients with mental illness is increasing every year. The research aim was to develop a model of reality orientation therapy in patients with schizophrenia who had auditory hallucinations. Methods: This design of the study was a sequential exploratory research study which combined qualitative and quantitative approaches. The respondents involved in this study were patients with schizophrenia who experienced auditory hallucinations. Ten respondents who met the criteria were used as the population target in the therapeutic procedure trial. Five nurses who had experience treating patients in a mental hospital were established as experts in the trial instrument development. Initially, the content of the hallucinations were identified using "Beliefs about the Voices Questionnaire (BaVQ)" through interviews. These answers were then analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The level of the patient's anxiety was statistically significant at 1.078 (P 0.309). It can be concluded that there was no difference between the patient's anxiety before and after cognitive therapy focused on reality orientation. Discussion: The model should be more elaborate when applied to patients who experience negative auditory hallucinations.
