Abstract

Tourism is one of the sectors which defines the identity of a country. In Indonesia, rich in culture and nature, the use website is benefited by the government to portray as well as gain profit from the tourism sites. This paper, thus, intends to discuss how the environment in Yogyakarta tourism is criticized on the website. The interest of linguistics to criticize how its usage affects the environment triggers the development of ecolinguistics. Saphir distinguishes three ecological territories: physical, economic and social. Ecological domains are exercised to present Yogyakarta on Wonderful Indonesia, the official website of Indonesian tourism. This paper observed the employment of clauses of Yogyakarta text found in the Destination Highlight on the front page of the website at www.indonesia.travel on March 31, 2019. The method applied is ecolinguistics by exercising the ideational metafunction of language proposed by Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to figure out how the website portrays the real world of Yogyakarta environment seen from the choice of process, participants and circumstances. The analysis reveals that social environment dominates the website, meaning that Yogyakarta is advertised as a carrier and attribute in terms of its culture and value. Yogyakarta, is attached to the attributes as a city with respect for values. This paper proposes criticizes to present Yogyakarta through material processes to demonstrate how local people, as well as tourists, value and engage in preserving the environment of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Difficulties of producing speech sound in stutterers are indicated by the repetition, pause, prolongation, revision, and filled pause on the speaking. However, such difficulties do not hinder the communication as shown in the speech of a stand-up comedian named Drew Lynch. This study aims at exploring the types of fluency disorder identified in Lynch’s utterances on stage. This study uses the descriptive qualitative method employed through the process of observing, transcribing, describing, and analyzing his utterances in American Got Talent videos. The result shows Lynch produces all kinds of disfluency covering filled pause, phrase repetition, revision, multisyllabic whole-word repetition, monosyllabic whole-word repetition, repetition of individual sound or syllable, prolongation of sound, and block. The monosyllabic whole-word repetition is more dominant. The combination happens between revision with monosyllabic whole-word repetition, prolongation, or multisyllabic whole-word repetition. These findings confirm that in the context of stand-up comedy, the disfluencies in stuttering do not hamper the transfer of meaning.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the social structures and the forms of power as well as their repetition from colonial era to New Order. This study used a sociological approach to literature with the theory of power hegemony proposed by Gramsci. This research was a type of descriptive-qualitative research. The results of this research showed that in the colonial era, th social structure consisted of colonizer and colonized group whereas in New Order era, there were government official group, which was supported by the capital owner group, and ordinary people group. In regard with the form of power, colonial era showed the dominance of violence and hegemony that was countered by native resistance through violence sas well. Meanwhile, in New Order era, there appeared to be violence and hegemony dominance with the resistance in the form of hegemony over intellectuals. On the other hand, the social structure and the form of power in the colonial era, particularly the dominance of violence, still continued in New Order era and was termed as neocolonialism.
