Abstract

This article describes self-belief and intuition, and knowledge about students’ thinking process in solving problems. This research employed qualitative approach using quantitative method. Techniques of data analysis were data reduction, data display and conclusion. The finding showed that: 1) students of high group had possessed self-belief and intuition, and knowledge about students’ thinking process in solving problems, but had not possessed conditional knowledge yet. 2) Students of average group had possessed good self-belief, but had not intuition and knowledge about students’ thinking process in solving problems yet. 3) Students of low group had not possessed the above mentioned two metacognitive behaviors in solving problems yet.Kata kunci: metakognitif, masalah matematika

Abstract

Critical reading is a reading technique that encourages the students to have deeper comprehension on the materials they are reading. Analyzing and evaluating the reading materials by proposing several critical questions to the writer, known as ‘reading between the lines”, can direct the reading to ‘advance’ level. Consequently, the students do not just take for granted what they are reading. However, to become a critical reader is not easy since there are some potential obstacles that the reader might encounter. Consequently, they have to be able to deal with the obstacles and therefore become critical and active readers.Key words: critical reading, critical readers, critical thinking, and active readers

Abstract

his research aimed improving students’ reading comprehension in Arabic by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) at MAN 3 Padangpanjang.  To reach the aim, qualitative approach and classroom action research (CAR) were used. The participants of the research were students of grade XI/2 MAN 3 Padangpanjang. The research was conducted during July-August in 2008/2009 academic year which consisted 3 cycles. The data were collected employing such techniques as of test, observation, interview and in depth discussion among the researcher team, peer and collaborator for the reflection and supported by the following tools as reading comprehension test, observation sheet, interview guidance, questionnaire and discussion sheet. The finding showed that CIRC improved students reading comprehension in Arabic, and learning process activity. CIRC also made reading comprehension in Arabic more enjoyable and minimize learning boredom.Kata kunci: membaca pemahaman, model pembelajaran, kooperatif tipe CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition).

Abstract

One of the causes of students’ low in comprehending concepts in learning mathematics is the teacher centered teaching method. One alternative that can be proposed to solve the problem is by employing contextual learning approach through TPS-Berempat cooperative learning. This study therefore aimed at figuring out whether the students’ concept which was taught by  TPS-Berempat cooperative learning model is better than that by the conventional one and whether the components of the model existed. The participants of the research were the seventh grade students of SMP N 20 Padang in 2009/2010 academic year. Quasi Experimental method using Posttest Control Group Design was employed. Experimental group was treated by using contextual learning approach while the control one by using conventional. The data was taken from achievement test. The result of the analysis showed that the components of the contextual learning appeared well and students’ comprehension toward the concept which was taught by contextual learning in mathematics was better than that of by the conventional one.Kata kunci: pemahaman konsep, pendekatan kontekstual, kooperatif  TPS-berempat

Abstract

This research aimed at figuring out the effect of PKMSEB method toward learning achievement and involvement of Biology Department students in Research Methodology subject. This research employed a classroom action research. The population of the research was 70 students who were taking Research Methodology subject. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics. The findings showed that PKMSEB method improved students’ learning achievement although it was not high. Students’ learning involvement was fairly high. In general, all elements of involvement activity and learning achievement improved, however, the percentage and the score of such improvement were not significant. Scientifically, such improvement can be accepted and the hypothesis was supported.Kata kunci: aktivitas, hasil belajar, kompetisi pembentukan masalah, estafet berkelompok

Abstract

Education is human’s problem. Human is a dynamic creature. The dynamics of human’s life demands dynamic educational process in order to fulfill human’s needs. In order to maintain the dynamic thoughts of Islamic education, some relevant studies are needed.  Revelation based Islamic education studies can develop the concept of Islamic education and avoid the possible mistakes made by researchers in education fields. In doing so, the researchers may use tafsir thematic approach. Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the learning process of electrolysis cell matter which covered the planning, implementation, and evaluation; and analysis of theunderstanding of students’ concept (conception)  as well as the finding of the cause of the misconceptions and not understanding in matter of electrolysis cell. The study used was descriptive analysis. It was used to answer the problem’s formulation in this study. The object of this research were the process of learning and students’ conceptions. The subjects of this study were students in grade XII IA I and IA II and chemistry teacher in grade XII IA at SMAN 1  Panti. Instruments in this study were the observation guide, a recorder (Handycam) and two tier diagnostic test.Based on the data analysis, it is found that (1) learning process in the electrolysis cell matter in SMAN 1 Panti was not in accordance with the standards of process (2) Students IA I and IA II had misconceptions and did not understand the whole concept in electrolysis cell matter. (3) The cause of misconceptions and not understanding of students were mainly the teachers and students. The learning process should be conducted in accordance with the standards of process that has been established by government in order to ensure learning carried out effectively, so the quality of learning can be improved.Kata kunci: analisis, proses pembelajaran, elektrokimia

Abstract

Placement and Distribution service is one of services that are provided in counseling. In senior high school level, this service is provided to place students to their relevant department. Previously, before psychological test was used, placing students into particular departments were only on the basis of their learning achievements. Consequently, higher achievement students were placed into natural science department while the lower ones were placed into social science one. Recently, due to the frequent uses of psychological test in recruiting employees and selecting new college entries, the test is also considered in helping school counselor to place their students into their appropriate department, both in terms of potential and academic achievements. Abstract

This research focused on developing cooperative learning materials for biology of animal growth. This research therefore aimed designing teaching instructional, testing validity and testing practicality of the implementation of the materials upon the topic of animal growth in biology. This research employed research and development design. The first phase dealt with reconstruction or designing learning materials and the instrument that were used in cooperative learning. Next, testing instrument validity was done by expert. In the last phase, limited try out was conducted to figure out the practicality. The findings showed that learning materials and the supporting instruments were valid. Such learning materials included syllabus, lesson plans, students’ lab sheets, concept map manual and students’ achievement evaluation sheet. Implementation practicality was assessed from the cooperative learning process and students’ responses. The findings showed that the learning process was suitable with prepared syllabus and lesson plans, and students’ responses toward learning process was in good category.Kata kunci:    pembelajaran kooperatif, perangkat, instrumen, biologi perkembangan hewan
