Abstract

The mangrove forest of West Sumatra, was damaged about one kilometer of mangrove forest in a protected area in Apar Village, Pariaman City, West Sumatra, was damaged. This destruction was the result of the project to open a road connecting Ampalu Village to Padang Birikbirik, North Pariaman District. Data collection was carried out at the Technical Implementation Unit of the Marine and Fisheries Resources Conservation Service (KPSDKP) of North Sumatra Province, on January 10 to February 10, 2020, field data collection was carried out for 1 month. The method used in data collection is using the Observation method, which is systematic observation and recording of the symptoms studied. Mangroves that are conserved by UPTD KPSDKP Pariaman are Rhizopora sp, Nipah, Avecenia, and more dominated by Rhizopora sp. The community continued to cut down the mangroves and eventually the mangroves in Apar Village became extinct, so ideas emerged from the Apar Village community to restore the preservation of the mangrove forest by means of conservation or rehabilitation. Mangrove conservation techniques at UPTD KPSDKP include: Preparation of planting sites, preparation of tools, taking seeds, mangrove nurseries, planting mangrove seedlings, measuring mangrove growth, monitoring and measuring mangrove water quality once a week.

Abstract

Asahan waters, North Sumatra, is an area bordering near Malacca Strait used as a fishing ground for fish and blue swimming crabs (Portunus pelagicus). The consumed crabs as well as encourage the increasing demands globally. Stock management of biota aquatichad to sustainon thesustainability. This study should include informations on carapace width distribution, growth rate, mortality rate, exploitation rate and recruitment pattern. The data was obtained based on observations, enumerations and interviews at landing sites. Results showed that the crabs caught in January 2021 were 680 males and 324 females. Asymptotic carapace width (CW∞) of 125.7 mm for males and 118.0 mm for females, growth rate (K) 3.0/year for males and 0.9/year of females, total mortality rate(Z) 5.70/year for males and 1.42/year for females, natural mortality rate (M) 2.50/year for males and 1.16/year for females, mortality rate due to fishing (F) 3.20/year for males and 0.26/year for females. The exploitation rate of males (E= 0.56/year) reached overexploitation and the female (E= 0.19/year) has not exceed the optimal level. These results provide an approach on stock management of crabs based on the time of capture during spawning and recruitment in order to maintain the population sustainability.

Abstract

Shark is a cartilaginous fish. Sharks can be found in almost all Indonesian waters, both in territorial waters, ocean waters and the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). There are various types of sharks found. It was estimated that more than 300 sharks are found in the waters of Aceh Jaya and most of them have the potential to be exploited. The potential for sharks to land in Aceh Jaya is very high, but information about shark catches is still very minimal, therefore a study was obtained from data collection based on shark catches landed at PPI Rigaih to identify species, determine the level of diversity and distribution of sharks, and determine the relationship between length and weight of sharks caught by fishermen at PPI Rigaih, Aceh Jaya Regency as the basis for sustainable shark management. This research was conducted at the Fish Landing Base (PPI) Rigaih, Aceh Jaya Regency. Research activities were carried out starting from August 2 to September 3, 2021.

Abstract

Mangroves have important ecological and economic functions for nature and humans.Mangrove forest on the coast of Kolagana is one area that provides various benefits to support life for marine life and local communities. But on the other side, the structure and composition of mangroves have not been identified properly. So it is necessary to overcome the area so that the ecological function of the associated ecosystem around it remains sustainable. This study aims to examine the structure and composition of mangrove species on the coast of Kolagana, Baubau City. The results of the study are expected to provide information to stakeholders regarding the types of mangroves found in the research location. Mangrove forest zoning at the research site is dominated by 2 types of mangroves. Zone adjacent to the seadominated by the species Sonnetaria alba, while the inside part zone is dominated by Rhizophora apiculata.
