The policy of Final National Examination (UN) standardization has caused madrasah to become trapped in practical efforts to help students pass by focusing on repetitive practice of tests in the examination subjects. Learning was not a process of developing on maturing, but one of earning high test score and passing the UN. Ironically, the development of student potential was not a priority for the teaching-learning process as a result of the high importance given to test scores. The deification of test score and the application of the policy of standardization have resulted in the process of education causing fear in students. Finally, students experience stress and depression due to fear of failing the UN. Therefore, the policy of standardization of passing grades in the UN must be changed to reflect the spirit of decentralization of passing grades in the UN must be changed to reflect the spirit of decentralization and regional autonomy and appreciation of diversity of school quality and capacity for teaching and learning. Data collection methods were in-depth interviews and document analysis.

The study was conducted in SMU in Jakarta. There were 120 first grade students as the sample of the study, selected through multistage random sampling. The data were gathered by using a metacognition scale. Data analysis was done by using the two-way analysis of variance. The results of the study are: (1) In general, problem-based performance assessment effects students’ metacognition in mathematics, (2) Learning models affect the students’ metacognition in mathematics; in which the cooperative learning model is more effective in improving the students’ metacognition than the classical learning model, (3) There is an interaction effect between problem-based performance assessment and instructional models. Such interaction show that problem solving performance assessment is more effective in improving students’ metacognition in mathematics if it is combined with cooperative learning model; while problem posing performance assessment is more effective if it is combined with classical learning model.

Perbedaan antara budaya sekolah yang dimiliki oleh sekolah yang memiliki prestasi tinggi dengan sekolah yang prestasinya lebih rendah, baik dalam norma, kepercayaan, maupun nilai-nilai yang berlaku di sekolah tersebut. Perbedaan budaya sekolah dari kedua sekolah tersebut ditunjukkan dengan angka 3.56. Walau secara statistic berbeda, namun perbedaannya tidak terlalu jauh. Hal ini disebabkan oleh adanya budaya masyarakat di sekitar sekolah yang ikut berpengaruh dalam proses pendidikan di sekolah. Kesimpulan ini merupakan hasil penelitian kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dengan skala Likert dan wawancara tidak terstruktur serta observasi. Analisis data menggunakan deskriptif statistic dan analisis inferensial (uji beda/t-test).

The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of instructional strategies and thinking style on reasoning ability. The study was conducted at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, with of method 2x2 factorial design. This study finds that (1) reasoning ability of the students who use metacognition strategy is higher that of those who use conventional strategy, (2) reasoning ability of the students with divergent thinking style who use metacognition strategy is higher than those who use conventional strategy, (3) reasoning ability of the students with convergent thinking style who use metacognition strategy is lower than that of those who use conventional strategy, and (4) there is an interaction between instructional strategies and thinking style that effects students’ reasoning ability. The study concludes that instructional strategies of metacognition effects the reasoning ability in learning, particularly for students who have divergent thinking style.

Islamic school has a special education system and culture tradition. Today such system and tradition is faced to the challenging and the changing of the area. Pesantren education since the beginning is a tafaqquh fiddin institution in order to make the cadre of the ustadz, which is estimated, happened to the crisis in reproducing the ustadz. The emergence of economic business in pesantrens was driven by their necessity to survive. For that reason, pesantrens needed to run economic activities. The activities were determined by: (a) the ability of kyai to read, define, utilize, and organize their resources, (b) geographical condition, and (c) social and cultural condition, both inside and outside the institutions. Almost all pesantrens in this research ran agribusiness, especially on-farm project. There were only three pesantrens that ran service business. Meanwhile, four pesantrens ran trade business and three pesantrens concerned with industry.

Street children are the unlucky society socially and economically. They are alive to decorate the down town in several of its activity. In clean, orderly and secure city, the appearance of street children who are growing bigger is estimated as the disturber. Of course, they have the same right with other child permanently. They have a right in order to get the feasible right, mainly correctly and feasible religion education. But, the religion education for street children is not ever known yet. This research tries to describe the religion education of the street children.

This research is done in order to describe the characteristic of religion board as the effort in redesigning it, so that the religion board is more able in giving the feasibility service with the needs of its follower today and in the future. This quantitative research is done to al-Falah religion board in Moslem minority territory in sub province of Tabanan Bali. The finding of the research calls that al-Falah religion board as the unit of non-formal religious education, has been grow highly in the minority Moslem people community as the effort in fulfilling the needs of Moslem people itself. Meanwhile from the management side it is lack handled professionally mainly in arranging education program and material that is not guiding to the needs of its follower real yet. This matter can effect to the possibility that the follower will leave the religion board.

This article will expose the potency and constraint faced by pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in policy implementation of Program Wajar Dikdas Sembilan Tahun (Nine Years Basic Education Program) in regency of Bangkalan, East Java, considering that the education in Bangkalan, Madura generally either quantitatively is still pertained “low†if compared with education in East Java in general. Though, administratively Bangkalan, Madura Island included into east Java Province and geographically Bangkalan abuts with the second metropolitan town that is Surabaya. Even, East Java Province will specify the policy of twelve years basic education program untul senior high school level.
