Abstract

This learning device development was based on the observation at Public Vocational High School 3 Singaraja where the problems that occurred were 1) students only waited for teachers’ explanation, and 2) no applicative material that made the learning process difficult. The subject of this research and development was Basic Electricity and Electronic teacher from the class of X-TITL 1 in Public Vocational High School 3 Singaraja and its 35 students. The product testing was performed in two stages: 1) limited test, and 2) implementation test. The data instruments were validation and observation sheets, where the measurement aspect from the data collection was learning device validity and learning device practicality. The handout validation results obtained 80.6 percent score, the observation sheet of learning device implementation got 87.5 percent score, and the observation sheet of teacher’s activity obtained 92.6 percent score. The practical test of learning device was based on the analysis and observer assessment on the observation sheet of a learning device and teacher’s activity. The total percentage of learning activity was 80.4 percent (70 percent is less than PR is less than 85 percent), or a good category. The total percentage of teacher activity was 80.8 percent (70 percent is less than PG is less than 85 percent) or an active category. Thus, from two observations above, it could be stated that the learning device met the practicality criteria. Keywords: handout, valid, practical

Abstract

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach is an approach that answers the problems in engineering education. This research aimed to explore the students' STEM characteristic in Machine Construction Design, the obstacles that were experienced by the students when implementing STEM, and implementation pattern from STEM subjects. This research used the qualitative approach using a case study. The data was collected through the interview and documentation from the informant that consisted of supervisor lecturer of STEM subject and students who already took Machine construction Design subject. This research found that the students' STEM characteristics in Machine Construction Design subject consisted of: design task background that prioritizes problem-solving to understand the natural phenomenon in the context of machine construction design, CAD as a form of technology utilization to design the machine, machine element course content as a basis in material selection and computation of engine components, also mathematical engineering content to help understand the scope of physical engineering, CAD, and mechanical element. Meanwhile, the obstacles that often occurred were caused by external, internal, and technical of the course.

Abstract

This research aimed to (1) find the change in free fatty acid content in "nasi lalapan" that used repeated cooking oil, (2) the content difference of "nasi lalapan" from each oil repetition. This research was experimental using a quantitative approach. The target of this research was "nasi lalapan" street vendors in Malang City. The samples were taken from one vendor in one sub-district. The samples were fried chicken, fried catfish, and fried tempeh in the 0, 5th, 10th, and 20th frying and were tested in the laboratory to find the free fatty acid content change. The data analysis in this research used the ANOVA test and further LSD test. The results showed that (1) free fatty acid in fried chicken, catfish, and tempeh increased along with the frying repetition, (2) the usage of repeated cooking oil influenced the free fatty acid content.

Abstract

This study investigates teachers' preparation policies and the policy execution in vocational high school in Indonesia. Using a qualitative method, the researcher selected university members who have been involved in teacher preparation programs and or policy making in Indonesia as the participants. The data collection and analysis were undertaken according to research questions focused on the governmental policies and the implementation of teachers' preparation. This result shows that teacher preparation policies in Indonesia were enacted based on the teacher and lecturer law in 2005. Afterward, in 2007, the minister of education upgraded a policy through two regulations, the teacher's qualification and competencies, and teacher certification. To get teacher certificate and incentives from the government, vocational high school teachers should make portfolios and join series of training. This, certainly, effectively encourages many youngsters to become a teacher. The policy of teacher certification was updated and upgraded again by the government through teacher education program through either in-service or pre-service. The teacher preparation policies are conducted by Indonesian government through teacher certification, that focuses on the quantity of certified teachers based on the national standard. Consequently, teachers will face difficulty in creating graduates with high competency standards and high competitiveness in the global market. Teacher quality improvement should be done clearly with the orientation on international standard.

Abstract

Higher educational institutions play a very important role in gaining, improving, using, supplying, and storing knowledge and making it available for their students. For the sake of the institutions, such information needs to be managed properly and constantly. The aim of this paper is to describe how to establish effective knowledge management so that it can bring maximum benefit for all academicians. For this purpose, higher educational institutions need to know the definition of knowledge management, its structure and role model, the way of obtaining innovation from it, the use of it. Understanding all mentioned makes it easier for them to manage knowledge and come up with constant innovations through an academic research which will reveal result information, innovative ideas, and data of innovation developed. The success of knowledge management program depends on three components, human resources, the management processes, and existing technology adopted in the institutions.
