Abstract

Most ASEAN member countries are currently facing a lack of skilled labor which is jeopardizing their further economic development. To tackle this issue, it is crucial to improve the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system, in which the quality of TVET teachers constitutes a main key factor. Establishing an International mutual TVET Teacher Master program and degree for ASEAN countries can enhance TVET teachers’ competence in the ASEAN community. The paper presents a competency framework for TVET teachers in ASEAN countries that was developed by a focus group from five ASEAN countries during two workshops from 2015 to 2016, which can be used as a blueprint for setting up such an international TVET Master program for the ASEAN community. The paper also elaborates further steps to be conducted to set it into practice.

Abstract

Abstract

Teachers of Tourism Vocational High Schools in assessing students’ performance generally use an invalid written test. It does not measure what it was designed to measure. Measurement of performance should use authentic assessments. The objectives of this study were (1) identifying aspects required to develop an instrument, (2) developing authentic assessment instruments on scientific learning of Tourism Vocational High Schools, and (3) developing authentic rubrics of scientific learning. This study was Research and Development applying the 4D model consisting of Define, Design, Developed, and Disseminate. The first year study completed stages of Defining and Designing, while the second year completed stages of Developing and Disseminating. The results of the first year study were the prototype of the instruments and the rubric script. This study generated 3 instrument prototypes, namely attitude instrument (8 items), knowledge instrument (9 items), and skills instrument (18 items), along with the rubrics for each instrument. The three instruments qualify face validity with expert judgment, content validity with Aiken formula, construct validity with goodness-of-fit test, and reliability estimate with Intraclass Correlation Coefficient.

Abstract

The study examined the factors affected teachers' Technology, Pedagogy and Content Knowledge (TPACK). Those factors are Technology Knowledge (TK), Pedagogy Knowledge (PK), Content Knowledge (CK) and Technology Pedagogy Knowledge (TPK). Curriculum 2013 has been applying for 5 years. However, an evaluation of how does the teacher deliver learning subjects (pedagogy knowledge), and the implementation of subject mastery (content knowledge) and technology mastery (technology knowledge) is strongly suggested. The study was quantitative with an associative method involving 200 teachers in Salatiga region as samples drawn with simple random sampling. The results of the study showed that PK has a positive effect on TPACK, while TK and CK do not have a positive effect on TPACK. Furthermore, TK, TPK, PK have positive effects on TPK, and TPK has a positive effect on TPACK. This study also suggested that age influences the development of technological knowledge and if one of the knowledge is not possessed by a teacher, the learning process will achieve maximum outcomes.

Abstract

This study aimed at evaluating the implementation of a five-day working program at vocational high schools. This study described the implementation, strengths, and weaknesses of the five-day working program in vocational high schools using a descriptive evaluative method with the model of Contex, Input, Process, and Product. This study was conducted in Vocational High Schools also known as Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Negeri 2 Karanganyar. The sample of this study consisted of 126 students selected with a quota sampling technique and 10 teachers selected with a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the questionnaire item used logical validation. The results showed that the implementation of the five-day school program was sufficient but not fully achieved. The program can improve students' knowledge and skills and students’ activities are easier to be controlled. In the other hand, the school’ readiness to implement the five-day school program is not optimal indicated by not all teachers use interesting learning media and methods, and the teachers’ teaching performance during the day is decreased.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims at improving the students competence on electronic power system course through the implementation of E-Learning to prepare teacher candidates for vocational school with international standard. The reserach method was action reserach with E-Learning. The implementation of E-learning and classroom were conducted simultaneously. The planned action, excuted action and devloped action referred to Elliot’s model of action research. In order to achieve better result, several modification and adaptation were formulated based on need and condition. The reserach result showed that E-learning implementation on electronic power system course had successfully implemented on even semester in the academic year of 2011/2012. The site of E-learning for electronic power system can be accessed at http://besmart.uny.ac.id. The learning process with E-learning gave a positive contribution for both E-learning system and the learning process. It was indicated by the increase of student attandence, students’attention, task completion, students’respond, more time for learning, and task exercise. The learning process with e-learning also gave positive influence on the students’ability which was indicated on the score improvement of pre-test and post-test from 57,11 into 71,4.   Keywords: e-learning, electronic power system, action reserach
