Abstract

An effort to prevent  Aeromonas hydrophila diseases  in catfish (Mystus nemurus)  performed using antibiotic was less safety. Prevention using natural substances mix with fishmeal could overcome the problem. The study was conducted to investigate fismeal potential containing herb of Sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata) and leaves of Jambu biji (Psidium guajava) with different dose given to fish aslong as 60 days. Treatment P1 (without sambiloto flour and jambu biji leaves), P1( 10 g of sambiloto flour + 10 g of jambu biji flour/kg of fish meal), P2 (20 g of sambiloto flour + 20 g of jambu biji flour/ kg of fish meal), P3 (30 g of sambiloto flour + 30 g of jambu biji flour/ kg of fish meal). After 60 days, infection of  Aeromonas hydrophila through intraperitonial with concentration of 108 cell/ml and dose of 0,1ml/fish was conducted. Result of study show that catfish feed with fismeal containing sambiloto  and jambubiji could increase survival rates and growth rates (P˂0,05), but fishmeal containing sambiloto and jambu biji leaves was not effective to privent diseases coused by Aeromonas hydrophila on catfish (Mystus nemurus).   Keywords : Andrographis paniculata, Psidium guajava, Aeromonas hydrophila, catfish (Mystus nemurus)

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to determine the value of LC50 96 hours and sub lethal toxicity test of latex liquid waste against survival, growth and oxygen consumption rate of catfish. This research was held from April until June 2013 in Laboratory of Basic Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The materials used for this research were latex liquid waste and catfish was a length of 11 cm ± 0.1 cm with a weight of 10 g ± 1 g as bioassay. This research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with seven treatments and  three replications. Treatment levels of lethal toxicity test were 0 mL.L-1 (A), 16.8 mL.L-1 (B), 18.8 mL.L-1 (C), 21.0 mL.L-1 (D), 23.5 mL.L-1 (E), 26.3 mL.L-1 (F) and 29.4 mL.L-1 (G). Treatment levels of sub lethal toxicity tests were 0% x LC50 96 hours (A), 0.5% x LC50 96 hours (B), 1% x LC50 96 hours (C), 6.25% x LC50 96 hours (D), 12.5% x LC50 96 hours (E), 25% x LC50 96 hours (F) and 50% x LC50 96 hours (G). The result of this research showed that the of LC50 96 hours concentration of latex liquid waste for catfish is 24.5 mL.L-1. The results of sub lethal toxicity test indicated that latex liquid waste significantly affect the survival of catfish in the concentration of 25% x LC50 96  hours (F), while did not significantly affect on growth until concentration of 50% x LC50 96 hours  (G). Exposure time periode affects oxygen consumption rate was concentration from 0,5% x LC50 96 hours (B) until 50% x LC50 96 hours  (G) where the longer of exposure time would decrease the oxygen consumption of catfish.   Keywords: Latex Liquid Waste, Toxicity, Catfish

Abstract

Experiments to evalueate the hydrolysis of crude fiber in coconut cake meal (CCM) by sheep rumen liquor enzymes for basic material fish diet. In Experiment I, the sheep rumen liquor enzymes were added into the CCM at concentration of either 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, or 125 ml/kg of CCM, and incubated for the period of 0, 12, and 24 hours, respectively. The result showed that sheep rumen liquor enzymes could effectively reduced the fiber content of CCM, while its glucose concentration increased. It was found that the application of sheep rumen liquor enzymes at a dose of 125 ml in 1 kg CCM at a period of 24 hours was the most effective treatment to reduce the crude fiber content in CCM. The crude fiber content in this treatment decreased from 13.76% to 6.98%. Keywords: coconut cake meal, sheep rumen liquor, and crude fiber

Abstract

ABSTRACT Motile aeromonad septicaemia (MAS) is caused by the bacterium Aeromonas hydrophila. The use of plant (natural materials) from herbal plants such as garlic, lime, turmeric and mengkudu can be as an alternative way to inhibit the activity of A. hydrophila by their active substances which have potency as an antibacterial and immunostimulant. The aim of this study was to analyze the potential of using a mixture of herbal plants to control of A. hydrophila in catfish sangkuriang (Clarias sp.). There were split in two kind of doses namely, preventive garlic;lemon 0,625% and turmeric;mengkudu 1,5%. The preventive treatment was given for two weeks before challenging test. The curative treatment was performed on one week after challenging test. Challenging test was carried out by intramuscularly injecting of 0,1 mL A. hydrophila (105cfu/ml) into the fish. The results of in vitro at doses of 5% of each extract showed antimicrobial. In the in vivo test, extracts of garlic and lime showed antimicrobial at a doses of 0.625%, while turmeric and mengkudu extracts effective inhibited in a doses of 1,5%.
